BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Movie Review: #DespicableMe3

The insanity of this universe continues in the messy but enjoyable Despicable Me 3 . Review by Matt Cummings The Despicable Me franchise might not be the one you rattle off in terms of box office royalty, and yet one can't deny its vivacity, having already made nearly $1b domestically over three films. Some of that has come at a price, as critics seem less and less enamored with its zaniness, adult humor, and those pesky Minions who some claim are merely plot devices. Despicable Me 3 gives us all of that in spades, determined to double down on what's worked in the past but exposing their hand over the franchise's issues. And although its story is a bit of a mess, it features stunning animation and enough humor to hide any potential issues. Settling down into a life of married spycraft, Gru (Steve Carrell) and Lucy (Kristen Wiig) have been pursuing the former 80's child star-turned villain Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker), who is obsessed with stealing a ri

Movie Review: #TheBeguiled

The Civil War-era drama The Beguiled reeks with a molasses-like pace and a fixation on empty moments. Review by Matt Cummings The idea of Counter Programming at the domestic box office is not a new thing. Most of the time it works: pair a film made for kids with another just for the adults, and you have a successful evening out. Unfortunately, the disease that has become the 2017 Summer box office has infected so many releases that audiences are likely to stay home. Such is the case with The Beguiled , a movie with tremendous potential that dotes and doddles for 93 minutes before giving us a totally empty ending. Just one year before the end of The Civil War, and Southern plantations aren't the only ones to suffer from a lack of slaves. Even female boarding houses like the one run by Miss Martha (Nicole Kidman) are shoddy remnants of their former selves. Battles seem to happen near them quite often, and soon it deposits the injured Corporal John McBurney (Colin Fa

Marvel’s #Inhumans Trailer

Meet Marvel’s Inhumans early in IMAX theatres Sept 1, and experience the full series starting Sept 29 on ABC Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965, the Inhumans were an outgrowth of experimentation conducted by the alien Kree early on in the Kree-Skrull War that took place millions of years in the past. Creating a station on Uranus, the Kree discovered sentient life on Earth and, intrigued by its genetic potential, began tinkering with us. Although successful, the experiments were abandoned due to a genetic prophecy that foresaw it leading to the demise of the Kree people. The Inhumans survived. We're introduced to the main characters here – the Royal Family of the Inhumans who live in the advanced city of Attilan, transported to the moon from the Earth to avoid discovery and the growth of pollution as humanity began its rise. Now, concerned with humans' growing reach and threat, there is division between the various family members. Powerful

Movie Review: #SpiderManHomecoming

Iron Spider: Homecoming Rama is back So here’s my review of Iron Spider Homecoming.. ehm.. I meant to say #SpiderManHomecoming. It’s an incredibly fun teen movie but it’s not perfect. I think Tom Holland is a great Peter Parker, he’s got the character down spot on. No offense to Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield but Tom Holland’s version is like straight out of the pages. But with this reboot, they basically plaster Iron Man’s previous drama on to Spider-Man in addition to the new tech-based suit, so I’m not sure if that’s going to sit well with all the fans. The events take place right after the colossal airport fight in “Captain America: Civil War,” young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is stoked about helping Iron Man and looking forward to the next mission. But he seems to have been sidelined by his new mentor, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) Peter goes about his high school life with his best friend and decathlon classmates, when Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as

Movie Review: Baby Driver

Edgar Wright’s latest is the perfect getaway. Review by Brandon Wolfe Baby (Anson Elgort), the protagonist of Edgar Wright’s delightful new film Baby Driver , looks for all intents and purposes like your standard-issue millennial. The disaffected gaze and the earbuds constantly snaking up either side of his head are the major signposts. Yet that descriptor doesn’t suit Baby too well. He shows no discernible interest in any form of social media, for one, and he takes in his beloved tunes through such outdated means as cassette tapes and first-generation clickwheel iPods, without a whiff of hipster irony. Baby also exhibits a unique personality, hovering somewhere between Ferris Bueller “the world is my stage” exuberance and something like mild autism. He’s a true original, a teen character that defies any of the easy pigeonholing that befalls most of his fictional ilk. And that’s before you factor in that the kid is the best getaway driver in the business. Baby Driver , Wrig
