Having launched two franchises with Sherlock Holmes and Iron Man , Robert Downey Jr is looking to keep the iconic roles coming by developing a new movie based on the Perry Mason character originally created by novelist Erle Stanley Gardner. Warner Bros., which has produced the Sherlock films, is involved with the Mason development, kicked off once estate attorney Joe Horacek nabbed the rights to the character. Downey and co-producer David Gambino have come up with a story idea and are now in the process of finding a writer to turn it into a screenplay. While the character of Perry Mason is best known to audiences through the Raymond Burr-starring TV series, the legal eagle actual first stalked the courts in Gardner’s books, the first of which was published in 1933. The author went on to write 82 novels and many short stories, which revolved around Mason, secretary Della Street, private eye Paul Drake and the team’s legal nemesis, Hamilton Burger. Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes Sequel In Lobo Out Director Guy Ritchie has set aside the planned "Lobo" film to clear his schedule for a fast-tracked "Holmes" sequel, according to producer Joel Silver. "Holmes" has pulled in $389 million in worldwide box office since its Christmas Day release and looks to add to that with overseas releases still pending in Germany, Japan, France and several other markets. "Sherlock Holmes", directed by Guy Ritchie,takes place in 1891 London, just as the well-known Tower Bridge was being constructed. The film is extremely fast paced in both movement and dialogue-too fast at times. It may have been the dialect of the time, but in 2009, the words become hard to discern. Kudos to Robert Downey Jr for picking up such a strong dialect, but it needed to be slowed for the audience. Downey Jr's character is well-developed, as we hear his thoughts throughout the movie, see into his home and learn about his techniques for solving mysteries.
