Meet Your Newest Sacramento Kings

I know that I am a film and entertainment site but I gotta support my local team I have been following since 1992. The Sacramento Kings selected BYU’s Jimmer Fredette (10th overall), UCLA’s Tyler Honeycutt (35th overall), and Washington’s Isaiah Thomas (60th overall), according to Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.

In a three-team trade, the Kings acquired forward-guard John Salmons and the draft rights of Fredette (selected 10th overall by Milwaukee) from the Bucks. Milwaukee received guard Beno Udrih from the Kings and swingman Stephen Jackson, Shaun Livingston, and the draft rights to Tobias Harris (selected 19th by Charlotte) from the Bobcats. Charlotte received the draft rights of forward Bismack Biyombo (selected 7th by Sacramento) and swingman Corey Maggette from Milwaukee.

“With Jimmer, we got one of the most exciting players in college basketball last year,” Petrie said. “He’s someone with outstanding offensive skills and creativity in the backcourt. Honeycutt is a terrific athlete, led the Pac-10 in blocked shots, and can defend a couple of positions. Isaiah Thomas is just a consummate competitor. He’s on the small side but he’s had a great career at Washington.”

Fredette, a 6-2, 195-pound senior guard from BYU, averaged a nation-leading 28.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in 2010-11. He shot 45.2 percent from the field, 88.2 percent from the free throw line, and connected on 45.5 percent of his three-point attempts. Fredette set school records for points (2,599), three-pointers (296), free throws (627), games played (139), 30-point games (24), 40-point performances (6), and wins played in (112). He established Mountain West Conference single-game records in points (52), field goals (22), and three-point field goals (9, tied). He posted the 11th-highest season point total in NCAA history as a senior. He was named First Team All-American and the National Player of the Year by the majority of organizations and media outlets. For three consecutive years he was selected All-MWC First Team and USBWA All-District VIII.

Fredette was the first senior selected in this year’s Draft and the fourth guard to be drafted. He becomes the first player from BYU to be drafted by the Kings in the Sacramento era. Fredette joins Rafael Araujo (Toronto, 8th overall, 2004), Shawn Bradley (Philadelphia, 2nd overall, 1993), and Mel Hutchins (Tri-Cities Blackhawks, 2nd overall, 1951) as the only players from BYU to be drafted in the top 10 in NBA history.



Honeycutt, an early entry candidate, averaged 12.8 ppg (.406 FG%, .362 3pt%, .736 FT%), 7.2 rpg, 2.8 apg, and 2.1 bpg in 33 games as a sophomore for the Bruins. The 6-8, 188-pound forward was named to the 2010-11 First Team All-Pac-10 and led the conference in blocks per game, ranking 49th nationally. He averaged 10.3 ppg (.431 FG%, .359 3pt%, .684 FT%), 6.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.2 spg, and 1.7 spg in 59 games in two seasons at UCLA. Honeycutt was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman team after averaging 7.2 ppg (.496 FG%, .345 3pt%, .600 FT%), 6.5 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.2 bpg in 26 contests, 18 of which he started, in 2009-10.

Honeycutt becomes the second player from UCLA drafted by the Kings since they moved to Sacramento joining guard Tyus Edney (second round, 1995). The Kings have selected an early entry candidate in seven of the last eight drafts.



Thomas, also an early entry candidate, averaged 16.4 ppg (.426 FG%, .325 3pt%, .713 FT%), 3.5 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.2 spg, and 30.4 mpg in 105 career games at Washington. The 5-9, 185-pound guard, was named to the First Team All-Pac 10 as a junior after averaging 16.8 ppg (.445 FG%, .349 3pt%, .719 FT%), 3.5 rpg, 6.1 apg, 1.3 spg, and 31.9 mpg in 35 games in 2010-11. Thomas finished his collegiate career ranked sixth in points (1,721), third in assists (415), and eighth in steals (122) in school history. The Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2008-09, Thomas averaged 15 or more points per game in each of his three seasons with Washington.

This is the first time in the Sacramento era the Kings have selected two players in the same draft from the Pac-10 (Honeycutt and Thomas).

Peter Falk-Columbo Star Dies At The Age Of 83

Peter Falk, star of both TV and movies, has died in Los Angeles. He was 83.

He may forever be known for asking suspects “just one more thing…” before cracking a murder case as shabby trench coat wearing ‘tec Columbo on TV, but Falk’s career went far beyond that iconic, beloved character.


A New York City native, Falk faced an early challenge when his right eye was removed because of a tumour, resulting in him wearing a glass eye through most of his life. Despite that, he was a committed sports player in his youth, though he would gravitate towards the stage at 12, when he appeared in The Pirates of Penzance at a summer camp. After being rejected by the armed services because of his eye near the end of World War Two, Falk signed up with the US Merchant Marines, serving as a cook and a mess boy.

Following a stint at Syracuse University and a couple of other jobs, Falk began performing in community theatre, eventually moving to Off-Broadway productions and then the Great White Way itself.

Though he’d been advised not to expect much film work thanks to that pesky eye, Falk managed to crack the cinema with small roles in Wind Across the Everglades, The Bloody Brood and Pretty Boy Floyd.

But it was 1960’s Murder, Inc that proved to be the big turning point in his career, making waves in a supporting role as killer Abe Reles, which scored him his first Oscar nomination. He went on to nab a second nod the following year, for Best Supporting Actor in Pocketful of Miracles.

He began working in television even earlier, beginning with an episode of Robert Montgomery Presents in 1957 and working steadily through the late ‘50s, 60s and 70s on a variety of series including Have Gun - Will Travel, The Twilight Zone, The Untouchables, Naked City, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Dr Kildare, Wagon Train and cropping up as himself years later in one episode of The Larry Sanders Show.

His crowning achievement on the small screen, however, has to be the schlubby Columbo, the eternally underestimated, easygoing detective who hides a razor sharp mind and powers of detection that would turn Sherlock Holmes green with envy behind a seemingly bumbling demeanour and a trademark cigar. The series ran for 13 seasons.

On the big screen, he regularly collaborated with John Cassavetes, including on Husbands, Opening Night and A Woman Under the Influence.

Other memorable roles included Wings of Desire, It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, The In-Laws, Made (which allowed him to show off one of his personal passions, sketching) and, of course, his turn as the Grandfather in The Princess Bride who narrates the story.

Though Falk had been suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s, the exact cause of his death is not yet known. His ex-wife and two daughters survive him, and our thoughts are with his family.

J.K. Rowling Delivers "Pottermore" For All You Harry Potter Fans

Yes the Harry Potter franchise is coming to an end on July 15th but do not fear my fellow Harry Potter fans via comingsoon J.K. Rowling announced Pottermore today which builds on the reader experience. Here is Rowling's video announcement and the press release, followed by images of the site.


From 23rd June, fans can submit their email addresses to Pottermore.com in order to be contacted by the site following the opening of registration on 31st July, Harry Potter's birthday.


On 31st July, an online challenge will be launched on Pottermore.com. 1 million of those successfully completing it will be granted early access to the Beta version of the website, enabling them to help put finishing touches before it opens to all in October 2011. Details of the challenge will be revealed on 31st July.

J.K. Rowling today, Thursday 23rd June, answered mounting speculation about the nature of her new project and announced Pottermore, a unique and free-to-use website which builds an exciting online experience around the reading of her hugely successful Harry Potter books, and is partnered by Sony.

The announcement today was heralded by the revealing of the website’s name via an online search for its letters, and a ‘coming soon’ holding page which received over a million visits within 36 hours of launching.

For this groundbreaking collaborative project, J.K. Rowling has written extensive new material about the characters, places and objects in the much-loved stories, which will inform, inspire and entertain readers as they journey through the storylines of the books. Pottermore will later incorporate an online shop where people can purchase exclusively the long-awaited Harry Potter eBooks, in partnership with J.K. Rowling’s publishers worldwide, and is ultimately intended to become an online reading experience, extending the relevance of Harry Potter to new generations of readers, while still appealing to existing fans. As the Pottermore Shop develops, it is intended that it should include further products designed specifically for Harry Potter fans, offering a potential outlet for Sony products and services related to Pottermore. In keeping with Harry Potter’s international appeal, the site will launch in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, with more languages to follow.

In the new website, the storyline will be brought to life with sumptuous newly-commissioned illustrations and interactive ‘Moments’ through which you can navigate, starting with the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s (Sorcerer’s) Stone. On entering, you choose a magic username and begin your experience. As you move through the chapters, you can read and share exclusive writing from J.K. Rowling, and, just as Harry joins Hogwarts, so can you. You visit Diagon Alley, get sorted into a house, cast spells and mix potions to help your house compete for the House Cup.

At a press conference at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Rowling revealed some key features of the website. In an announcement which will thrill fans, she described how she has
brought to life both the Sorting Hat and Ollivanders experiences from her books for the first time on Pottermore, by revealing the questions asked by the Sorting Hat - which places newcomers into their Hogwarts houses according to their characteristics - and the magic behind the Wand Chooser – which finds the right wand for each user from over 33,000 possible combinations. She also revealed glimpses of the new information she has provided on some of the best-loved characters.

J.K. Rowling’s announcement on YouTube and sony.com today revealed that Pottermore (along with the Pottermore Shop) will be open to all users in October 2011. From today, 23rd June, fans can submit their email addresses on Pottermore.com in order to be contacted by the site following the opening of registration on 31st July, Harry’s birthday. Also on that date, an online challenge will be launched, whereby the first million people to complete their registration will gain early entry into the website, and help put final touches to the experience.

Trent Reznor’s "Year Zero" Miniseries Taps Fight Club Writer Jim Uhls

Fight Club writer Jim Uhls has been tapped to write Trent Reznor’s HBO/BBC Worldwide Productions miniseries Year Zero.

Based on the 2007 album by Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails, the concept recording criticizes the U.S. government -- specifically the Bush years -- and presents a dystopian vision of the year 2022. Reznor has already adapted the album into an alternate reality game.

Reznor most recently picked up the Academy Award for penning the original score, with Atticus Ross, to Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Network. He also composed the score for Sorkin’s upcoming adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

The epic sci-fi miniseries is a co-production of HBO and BBC Worldwide Productions.

Immortals Trailer To Premiere On Clear Channel Radio

Relativity Media’s Immortals Will Receive Unprecedented Trailer Launch Through its Promotional Partnership with Clear Channel Radio

Relativity Media’s theatrical trailer for its highly-anticipated epic adventure Immortals will debut in theaters on Wednesday, June 29 with the opening of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, but audiences will be given a unique sneak preview through its innovative promotional partnership with Clear Channel Radio via its on-air and online network, as well as on iHeartRadio, its industry-leading digital radio service, which streams music from Clear Channel’s 750 digital radio stations from 150 cities.

IAN MCKELLEN (GANDALF)

”He’s in fantastic form,” Peter Jackson says of McKellen. ”In a way, his role in The Hobbit has more technical difficulties than Lord of the Rings did, because he has scenes with 14 smaller characters — obviously the dwarves and the hobbit are shorter… I remember saying to him [laughs], ”Look, this isn’t Waiting for Godot or King Lear. This is The Hobbit. This is the real thing.”

”There’s no way you can pace yourself for shoots like these,” Jackson says. ”When we were going through the schedule for The Hobbit, I felt a terrible drop in my stomach when I saw that we’d be shooting for 254 days. We’re only 12 days short of The Lord of the Rings even though we’re only doing two movies. When I saw that, I had to sort of pick myself up off the floor and carry on.”

”He fits the ears, and he’s got some very nice feet,” Jackson says of his Bilbo. ”I think he’s got the biggest hobbit feet we’ve had so far. They’re a little bit hard to walk in, but he’s managed to figure out the perfect hobbit gait.”

First Image From Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation

Disney has delivered the first image from the Toy Story short tilted Hawaiian Vacation that will be featured be Cars 2. this weekend. Set in new owner Bonnie’s bedroom, “Toy Story Toons: Hawaiian Vacation” features Woody (voice of Tom Hanks) and Buzz (voice of Tim Allen) and the rest of the favorite “Toy Story 3” toys as they create the ultimate Hawaiian vacation for Ken (voice of Michael Keaton) and Barbie (voice of Jodi Benson).


It seems Ken badly miscalculated their travel arrangements, so the gang has to create a dream getaway in Bonnie’s Midwestern bedroom—in the middle of winter. “Hawaiian Vacation” also features the voices of Joan Cusack, Wallace Shawn, Don Rickles, Estelle Harris, Blake Clark, Bonnie Hunt, Timothy Dalton, Kristen Schaal, Jeff Garlin and John Ratzenberger.

Japanese Real Steel Trailer Delivers A Punch

The motherland delivers again. In this Japanese Real Steel trailer we get to see who Adam the robot is. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly and Rima Fakih, and directed by Shawn Levy. The film is based on the 1956 short story "Steel" by Richard Matheson, and was featured on an episode of The Twilight Zone.

Jackman plays Charlie Kenton, a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring. Jamie Foxx In Talks To Join Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained"

Quentin Tarantino has settled on the man he wants to star in Django Unchained and  now Jamie Foxx is in negotiations for the lead.

Yes, despite spending weeks trying to lure Smith to star in his tale of a freed slave who goes up against a sadistic plantation owner to rescue his long-lost love, only for the actor to pass on snatching the role, the writer/director has been looking down the list of other possible candidates. And while Idris Elba, Terrence Howard and Chris Tucker all took meetings, it seems that Foxx, who has been mentioned before alongside the others, is the man.

Leonardo DiCaprio is already attached to play the villainous Calvin Candie, while Inglourious Basterds’ Christoph Waltz had the role of Django’s friend and mentor, a German bounty hunter named Dr Schultz, written for him. Fellow QT regular Samuel L Jackson will be Candie’s right-hand man, Stephen.

Tarantino hasn’t yet found the actress he wants to play Broomhilda, the love of Django’s life, though Kerry Washington is one of the names under consideration for that part.

And while Variety can claim credit for digging up some of the additional info, the real kudos for breaking the news about QT’s latest choice must go to top podcast interviewer Jeff Goldsmith, who tweeted word on Tuesday afternoon.

Torchwood: Web of Lies” is an episodic interactive experience for iOS that fuses together motion comic and gameplay elements to tell an original and digitally exclusive Torchwood story. Players will participate in a parallel storyline to “Torchwood: Miracle Day” that includes lead characters Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper – voiced by John Barrowman and Eve Myles.

"Torchwood: Web of Lies" runs alongside weekly premieres of “Torchwood: Miracle Day”, providing fans with a way to engage in the world of Torchwood between episodes. It reveals a past day in the lives of Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper - a day they’ve both forgotten. The events of that day fuel a modern day conspiracy-laced treasure hunt, as Holly Mokri, voiced by Eliza Dushku (“Dollhouse,” “Tru Calling,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), labors to uncover the secrets of Miracle Day. Keira Knightley Gets Dirty In "A Dangerous Method" Trailer

Keira Knightley is a bad girl in this trailer for A Dangerous Method. The film stars Viggo Mortensen, Michael Fassbender, Vincent Cassel and Sarah Gadon. THe film was directed by David Cronenberg (A History of Violence and Eastern Promises). The screenplay was adapted by Academy Award-winning writer Christopher Hampton from his 2002 stage play The Talking Cure, itself based on the 1993 non-fiction book by John Kerr, A Most Dangerous Method.


Set on the eve of the World War I, A Dangerous Method is based on the turbulent relationships between fledgling psychiatrist Carl Jung, his mentor Sigmund Freud, and Sabina Spielrein, the troubled but beautiful young woman who comes between them.

Ron Howard To Direct Spy vs. Spy Film

Remember Spy vs. Spy, the running comic strip of one-ups-manship between rival spooks from Mad Magazine? A live-action bigscreen version is moving forward at Warner Bros for Ron Howard to direct.

David Koepp will produce with Howard and his Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Grazer. Right now, Koepp will oversee a script that will be written by John Kamps. Kamps just teamed with Koepp to write Premium Rush, the Sony Pictures movie directed by Koepp, who also just rewrote the Jack Ryan film for Paramount Pictures. The film will be a physical and highly visual action comedy with two spies going mano a mano in ruthless fashion.

Spy Vs. Spy will be down the line for Howard, who always has a busy dance card. As Howard and Grazer and Akiva Goldsman prepare to turn in the rewrite of The Dark Tower over the next couple of weeks to see if Universal Pictures will fund the ambitious adaptation of the Stephen King novel series planned to span three films and two TV series runs, Howard has been eyeing projects he might be able to squeeze in before. He met on the film that'll have Tom Hanks playing Captain Richard Phillips, who gave himself up to be a hostage to Somali pirates, that Paul Greengrass has wound up directing. He's been rumored for a Frankenstein project at 20th Century Fox that Max Landis is writing for producer John Davis. And he is getting serious about Rush, the Peter Morgan-scripted film about Formula one racer Niki Lauda. The latter project seems to have the strongest chance of happening, but only if it can start in the fall. In an interview I did with Howard and Grazer to commemorate Imagine's 25th anniversary, they told me in no uncertain terms they are determined to make The Dark Tower early next year, whether at Universal or elsewhere. I believe them.
