Neill Blomkamp Alien Film Concept Art

Director Neill Blomkamp , who has brought us films such as District 9 and Elysium , was developing an Alien film, but has apparently scrapped work on the project. It would have been part of the same franchise from Ridley Scott and James Cameron , and we have some concept art to share with you that shows how cool it would have looked. Blomkamp revealed the news himself on his Instagram page along with several illustrations that were done for it. I've included the notes from the director that came along with each piece of art. The first one you see above came with the following caption: "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph" He also posted the following comments on Twitter: "Ps this has nothing to do with the studio. I just feel like I might do something else instead. In which case why not show some work- See all the images after the Jump... Please Leave A Comment- S

District 9 Prequel To Be The Sequel. Confused Yet?

District 9 Prequel To Be The Sequel. Confused Yet? This week, he elaborated a bit on his plans for a follow-up—which might be a prequel instead, but definitely not a TV show—to the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog: "A television show I wouldn't really want to do. That would be...well, I just don't want to do that. But a sequel might be interesting. I know what I'm doing next so it wouldn't be right away. But the concept of aliens in Johannesburg is such an appealing idea to me and the issues of race and how they meet. All of the things that I had going on with it. I wouldn't mind messing around with it again. I'm open to it if the story works and there's a reason to do it. And [Sharlto Copley's character] Wikus is so funny to me, I'm very interested in a sort of passive racist like that. If you go forward [with his story beyond "District 9"] it's more of a traditional film but if you go backward I'd be intrigued in

District 9 Director Gets A Green Light For Next Film

District 9 Director Gets A Green Light For Next Film After I saw the movie District 9 I was thinking to myself why didn't I go watch this film sooner? Was I scared that the movie was all hype? The film definitely deserved all the attention it got. Now I am hearing that they are going to make a District 10 a sequel to the film. I can only hope that they are not doing this just to capitalize of the success of the first film. They have ruin some movies by making sequels but some sequels have turned out better then the original. Media Rights Capital has committed to the next film by “District 9” writer/director Neill Blomkamp . The untitled science fiction pic will begin production by mid-2010. Bill Block will produce. Block, the CEO of QED, was first to commit funding to “District 9” before Sony’s Worldwide Acquisitions Group acquired the film based on a Blomkamp-created graphic novel. “District 9” became a breakout summer hit for Sony in the South African-born filmmaker's feat

District 9 Takes over the Box Office

District 9 Takes over the Box Office The weekend B.O. provided prima facie evidence that movies tailored to a specific demo can shine in the summer frame, which has historically been dominated by all-audience event pics. Fueled by older males, Sony/TriStar's sci-fi thriller "District 9" opened to a boffo $37 million from 3,049 theaters to win the weekend crown at the domestic B.O. Movie was a sizable victory for Sony's Worldwide Acquisitions Group, Sony's marketing team, frosh filmmaker Neill Blomkamp and producer Peter Jackson. "District's" opening is one more example of a pic generating strong biz this summer without big stars. Coming in a handy No. 2 was Paramount holdover "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," another male-driven film. "Cobra" dropped 59% to an estimated $22.5 million from 4,007 runs for a domestic cume of $98.8 million. The distaff side of the multiplex was much the same story. Warner Bros./New Line's "The T

Sony's District 9 Directed by Neill Blomkamp Comic Con Review

Sony's District 9 Comic Con Review By April Meneghetti District 9 - Thirty years ago alien refugees came to Earth. In that time they settled in make shift homes in District 9 in South Africa while the worlds leaders decided what to do with them. The government decides to relocate them to a better refuge camp and go in to evict the aliens from District 9. Basically all hell breaks loose with our main character caught up in the struggle between the aliens and humans. The movie is being produced by Peter Jackson, directed by Neill Blomkamp, and is starring Sharlto Copley. Blomkamp was Jackson ’s choice to direct the Halo movie that never ended up happening. Blomkamp grew up in South Africa and decided that he wanted his childhood friend to star in the movie. It looks like he made an excellent choice. Copley does a great job as a government worker thrown into a nightmare. Preview of the movie.
