Silver Sable & Black Cat Film May Have Found It's Director

The Wrap is reporting Gina Prince-Bythewood is in talks to direct “Silver and Black,” the second announced standalone film in Sony’s Marvel Universe.

If the deal goes through, she would become first African-American woman to direct a movie based on Marvel characters.

The film will be based on the characters Silver Sable and Black Cat (aka Felicia Hardy), who are known for their connections with Spider-Man. Silver Sable is a mercenary who runs a company that hunts criminals. She hasn’t been introduced in a previous film. Meanwhile, Hardy made her debut in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” played by Felicity Jones.

Prince-Bythewood recently directed the pilot for Marvel’s upcoming series “Cloak & Dagger” on Freeform. She also recently co-created the show “Shots Fired” on Fox with her husband Reggie Rock Bythewood. The show aired its season finale Wednesday.

Prince-Bythewood will also rewrite the script by Christopher Yost, who wrote the screenplay for “Thor: The Dark World.”

Movie Review: #PiratesOfTheCaribbean #DeadMenTellNoTales

Fun, like the first film
Rama is back

Well, at least you can follow what’s going on in #PiratesOfTheCaribbean #DeadMenTellNoTales as opposed to that sleep-inducing incoherent babble that was “On Stranger Tides.” It seems that with this latest installment they’ve re-used the formula from the first movie “Curse of the Black Pearl” which I think is an effective strategy because Johnny Depp’s iconic character, Jack Sparrow, only works best when he’s not the lead but rather supports Orlando Bloom’s Will Turner and Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swann, or in this latest case, Brenton Thwaites’ Henry Turner and Kaya Scodelario’s Carina Smyth

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea—notably Jack. Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an un…

Lively will play Cecilia Fitzpatrick, a busy wife, mother and chronic perfectionist who inadvertently discovers that her husband has been keeping a secret from her for years...a secret that leads her to realize that her life is built on a foundation of lies and murder.

Movie Review: Baywatch

TV adaptation is a slo-mo jog to nowhere.
Review by Brandon Wolfe
For a television series that was, at the peak of its heyday, the most popular show in the world, Baywatch has had a surprisingly shallow cultural footprint. Maybe it’s not that surprising. It was a show built around watching Pamela Anderson and other beach beauties (and David Hasselhoff, if you’re into the carpet-chest thing) run around a beach in slow motion. That slo-mo running, with the accompanying heaving bosoms jutting out of tight red one-pieces, is almost certainly the only thing anyone has retained of Baywatch, whether they were an avid viewer or not. Perhaps that’s all there ever was to retain.

Given the source material’s paucity of substance, the creators of the new Baywatch movie have decided to go the same spoof route that the film version of 21 Jump Street rode to great success. That was another show that burned bright in its day, but left little impression, its central premise and the Johnny Depp factor …

Joseph Kosinski To Direct Top Gun 2?

Tom Cruise is getting ready to head back to the Danger Zone — and he’s bringing an old friend along for the ride.

Sources tell Variety that Joseph Kosinski — who directed Cruise in “Oblivion” — is the front-runner to direct “Top Gun 2” for Paramount and Skydance Pictures. While no official offer has been made, several insiders believe one is imminent.

Paramount had no comment.

Cruise met with potential helmers prior to and while filming “Mission Impossible: 6” in London to ensure the “Top Gun” sequel was ready to go after production wrapped. Even with Cruise and Kosinski having previously worked together on the 2013 sci-fi action film, sources say it was Kosinski’s vision the sequel’s direction that officially won him the job.

“Oblivion” was a huge hit for Cruise and Kosinski bringing in $286 million worldwide and only seemed like a matter of time before the two worked again.

Cruise recently confirmed to a British talk show that the sequel was moving forward and would hopefully shoot …

Penelope Cruz As Donatella Versace

Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated TV events of 2018 is The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. The FX miniseries not only comes from the Emmy Award-winning team from The People v. O.J. Simpson, including executive producer Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story), but also features an all-star cast, including Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan, Edgar Ramirez as Gianni Versace, Ricky Martin as Gianni’s longtime partner Antonio D’Amico, and Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz as Donatella Versace.

EW now has your exclusive first official image of Cruz as Donatella, who took control of her brother’s fashion house after Gianni’s murder by Cunanan in 1997. Dressed in a hot pink gown in the image above, Cruz’s Donatella is flanked by two muscular men near the pool at Villa Casa Casuarina, the Miami Beach mansion where Gianni lived and was killed. Part of the project was filmed at the villa, which today features a restaurant and suites.

Jessica Chastain To Star In Seducing Ingrid Bergman

She's currently busy as part of the Cannes Film Festival jury this year, but Jessica Chastain is making future plans to get back in front of movie cameras. She's attached to star in and produce Seducing Ingrid Bergman.

Arash Amel, who is also on as a producer, adapted the script from Chris Greenhalgh's 2012 novel. The story will follow the passionate affair between the actress – best known for films such as Casablanca and Gaslight – and war photographer Robert Capa. They struck up a romance in Paris in the aftermath of World War II and brought their connection to Hollywood at a time when the Communism witch hunts were in full swing. "Jessica is no stranger to portraying strong, intelligent women and this role deserves an actress of her immeasurable talent," says YRF Entertainment boss Uday Chopra. "We also feel that she will bring a unique perspective as a producer.”

This is a step forward for a film that has been floating in limbo for a while – James Mango…

David Ayer's Circling Scarface Remake

Universal has been planning to make a new version of ambitious criminal immigrant story Scarface for a few years, but it has been churning through writers, directors and potential actors without anything sticking. It would appear the producers are ready to go back to someone who at least took a crack at the script in the past, with Suicide Squad's David Ayer now in early talks to direct.

Ayer did some work on the screenplay back in 2011, but it has since been through the hands of several people, including Joel and Ethan Coen, who polished a draft by Jonathan Herman. Diego Luna is attached to play the main character, a Mexican chasing the American dream through any means necessary.

For a while, Antoine Fuqua was going to make the movie, but scheduling issues led him to drop out in January this year, around the time Luna was linked to the lead. Now Ayer is seriously considering taking a story that has previously been adapted in 1932 and, most famously in 1983. But even he has a lot…

Resident Evil To Be Rebooted

Variety is reporting Germany’s Constantin Film to produce, as on original six-movie franchise

The “Resident Evil” movie franchise has not ended after all.

Details such as the reboot director, stars, and how the reboot would fit into the franchise narrative are being kept under wraps. But Martin Moszkowicz, chairman of the board at Constantin Film, did confirm to Variety at the Cannes Film Festival that a reboot is in development at the giant German production company, which owns rights to the franchise and has produced all of its installments.

The franchise was set to end with this year’s “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” which grossed $312 million worldwide after its January release, including an eye-popping $160 million in China alone. Sony helped sow the seeds of success by securing a release for “Resident Evil: Afterlife” and “Resident Evil: Extinction” in China.

Based on the Capcom video game, the series launched in 2002 with Paul W.S. Anderson directing, and Anderson, Jeremy …

Tom Holland To Star As Nathan Drake In Uncharted Film

After spending several years approaching various writers, directors and actors and getting nowhere close to a completed film, Sony has decided to go in another new direction for the adaptation of video game series Uncharted. With Shawn Levy already attached to direct, the studio now has Tom Holland aboard to play a young Nathan Drake.

The new idea is to frame the story as a prequel to the games' normal timeline of an older Drake, taking its inspiration from a sequence in the third of Naughty Dog's titles that followed the character as a young thief and his first encounter with professional rogue Sullivan.

And following attempts by Joe Carnahan, David Guggenheim, David O. Russell and more to craft something, another writer will be brought in to develop the script afresh with Levy. If the first film ends up made – it feels like it finally could be, but with this hot potato, we're not counting any chickens – the studio is looking to launch a new franchise with Holland as the …
