Soundtrack Review: #Criminal

Criminal - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack sports dark ambience and powerful electronic beats.

Review by Matt Cummings

Say what you want about the Kevin Costner action/thriller Criminal (we sure did HERE), but its excellent score surely wasn't a reason for its disappearance at the box office. Filled with incredible dark electronic beats and beautiful tender moments, Criminal - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack compels us to take in every bit of Composers Brian Tyler and Keith Power's environment.

The violent world of spy craft has taken another soldier, this time in murdered CIA operative Bill Pope (Ryan Reynolds). But his sacrifice yields an interesting by-product: he was on his way to pick up the launch codes for the entire American defense network, which was stolen by a shadowy character named The Dutchman (Michael Pitt). The bag's disappearance and location of The Dutchman have also spurred interest by other parties, including the psychotic anarchist Heimdahl (Jordi Molla), who desires to sell the laptop to the highest bidder in the hopes of encouraging world-wide destruction. But Pope's death won't go unnoticed: his boss Quaker Wells (Gary Oldman) learns that the cast-aside Dr. Franks (Tommy Lee Jones) has a radical method to save people's memories: by transferring them to human hosts. Unfortunately, no normal person would apply, and so Wells taps a violent destructive criminal in Jerico Stewart (Kevin Costner) to undergo the process. The wild and unpredictable Jerico has a brain disorder that Wells hopes will fill in the missing gaps of his existence while providing the location of the money bag and The Dutchman. But Jerico has his own plan, including finding Pope's wife Jill (Gal Gadot), of whose memories of their happy marriage begin to overtake the savage lifer. As time runs down for the CIA, Jerico must decide if his strangely growing allegiance to Jill and her daughter is more important than saving the world.

In many ways, the score skips the mistakes made by Director Ariel Vroman, relying entirely on environment and mood, while pushing the boundaries with nearly every track. Things start off with a Oblivion-style electronic performance Drift and Fall Again by Israeli indie folk band Lola Marsh. It's got a big, beautiful sound that resonates deep into the 19-track offering. We won't hear vocals again until the last track, but it's a nice way to set up our forthcoming experience. Tyler has been around for a long time, dipping his feet in Marvel tentpoles (Thor: The Dark World and Age of Ultron), street beats (Fast and Furious, Furious 7), and Emmy-nominated television (Sleepy Hollow, Hawaii Five-O). But I'd have to say that Criminal (Madsonik Remix) is way out even for him. Its drum & bass groove is an instant keeper, reminding us that he and Power aren't afraid to crush new boundaries while providing excellent beats along the way.

That becomes very clear as we descend into tracks like Pope, Division, and later Chrono and You Remember. These are more set up pieces, effortlessly merging dark sound effects with skillful electronic beats. You need setups like these to join the tissue of the sound you are creating; not every track needs to sound like A New Hope. But there's also a lot of Daft Punk's Tron: Legacy on display, and that's not a bad thing. Chained and Waves of Institution are good examples, as Tyler and Power create the musical equivalent of waking up from a bout of amnesia. They help Jericho begin to remember Pope's life, mixing in dirty repeating keyboards, more of those impressive dark effects, and even utilize a few wind instruments. It's for this reason that a track like Distant Memories endures as one of the best on the album.

In a way, Tyler and Power provide a portion of the mental roadmap, helping to paint Jericho's struggles to keep Pope's memories separate from his own twisted past. If you haven't seen the film, it might be worth your time just to see Costner behave so naughty. He wrecks things and people through, and the track Jericho gives you a good idea of the journey this character takes before we fade to black. I'm not saying all of it works, but Tyler does a good job of tracking the madness Jericho's caused throughout his life. But then Fixer arrives: at 8:31, it's the longest track, assembling all the richness of this collaboration before sending us along with Resilience, nother journey into that repeating dirty keyboarding that's become such a staple of modern electronic scores.

Another of my favorites is Inexorable, a pulsing beat journey with great keyboards that hang around both in the distance and right up in our ears. It then moves into a powerful movement that really evolves into Jericho's theme. And while I couldn't get over the head-scratching ending of the film, Tyler and Power don't back down with Culmination, adding a drum machine that finds itself pushing back with a hypnotic, trance-like pulse that is every bit entertaining. The final track is another version of Drift and Fall Again, and it's every bit as good as Madsonik Remix, Tyler's alter-ego.

Criminal - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack probably won't find itself among the litter of free choices at your local Starbucks, but it's ok with that. Tyler and Power have crafted a pulsing and powerful score that's at many points quite ambient, demonstrating just how far this duo has evolved from the days of Tokyo Drift. Perhaps this represents a new peak which the duo have attained through years of collaboration: they can still do the big epic sounds of the MCU, while basking in the stark individuality of Criminal. And while the film might see a quick fade into obscurity, I can't help but think the score will endure as a lasting monument. It basks in the trend of repeating keyboard samples and dark ambient corners where only spies and madmen hang their hats.

Criminal is in theaters now, with the digital score now available and the CD arriving May 20, 2016.

Moview Review: 'The Huntsman: Winter's War'

The Huntsman: Winter's War is passable but entirely forgettable popcorn entertainment.

Review by Matt Cummings

One of the pleasant surprises of 2012 was Snow White and The Huntsman, a deftly managed fantasy flick with perhaps the most polarizing female in film (Kristen Stewart) alongside a very capable cohort in Chris Hemsworth. It went on to amass over $360m worldwide and made me not want to vomit at seeing Stewart. Fast forward to 2016 and a follow-up is ready for instant franchise establishment. But while The Huntsman: Winter's War is nicely shot, it's only passable popcorn entertainment, entirely forgettable, and even blandly predictable.

Long before the adventures of Snow White (Stewart), there was the evil queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) and her tender sister Freya (Emily Blunt), who herself has magic powers that have yet to emerge. But when her child is murdered by her deadbeat father, Freya (and her heart) apparently turn into The Ice Queen. As Ravenna continues to practice the fine art of Black Widow on unsuspecting kings, Freya sets up a kingdom for herself, using kidnapped children as soldiers. Two of them - Eric (Hemsworth) and Sara (Jessica Chastain) - become her finest but whose love is illegal in Freya's kingdom. When she discovers their secret, Freya orders Sara's death, touching off Eric’s dark journey which is covered in the first film. As the years pass, Eric is visited by William (Sam Claflin), who is worried that the influence of Ravenna’s golden mirror has turned White insane. When it disappears en route to its destruction, Eric is sent to find it with an odd assortment of dwarfs including Nion (Nick Frost) and his brother Gryff (Rob Brydon). As the team makes it way to the mirror' location, Eric learns of a diabolical cover-up that will shake his world to its foundation, while Freya moves to secure the mirror and its unlimited power.

One could look at the title for The Huntsman: Winter's War and realize right away that something's not right. This is not a film about Snow White's continuing adventures - which it should have been - but a pre/sequel that bolts together pieces of Lord of the Rings, Seventh Son, and Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, expecting us to forget its central character. To see White struggle against the power of the mirror, while Eric leads a crack team of Huntsmen to secure its destruction, would have been more emotionally involving than what we got. Early on, all the pieces are laid out: we know that Eric and Sara will patch things up, that Ravenna will fail, and that love will triumph because bad is somehow dumb. None of this turns into the rousing success of Deadpool, nor wreaks of the gut-churning failure that is Alliegant or Norm of the North, finding itself in some kind of film purgatory that's destined to be immediately forgotten.

The Huntsman: Winter's War is also blandly predictable, following a nearly robotic gameplan: insert plot point, then a serious moment with serious music, followed by a slow-motion sequence with a long shot of our heroes, and a joke or two before moving into an action sequence. This repeats throughout, with Hemsworth taking over for Stewart, whose extra-marital affairs seems to have written herself out of one of the only appealing female-centric stories in recent memory. But this is where Universal went wrong: instead of simply re-casting a cheaper (and frankly less-polarizing figure), they went in a male-centric direction, ignoring that this series primarily focuses around Snow White. Winter's War feels quite disconnected from the original, especially when the character is only mentioned in passing. There's also little that's memorable here: at least the original sports the best version of the Enchanted Forest, a truly magical (no pun) scene as White meets the great White Hart.

Instead, Winter's War makes an almost Herculean effort to cast some of the brightest female stars in the business, while providing most of them with the least amount of dialogue possible. It's no joke that Blunt, Chastain, and Theron could have (and could have) run this film, but Director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and Writers Evan Spiliotopoulos and Craig Mazin's efforts suggest they know only the periphery of the Snow White legend. This is just like the actor who claims they've read "every Marvel comic" on a character, and then proceed to demonstrate that they very little knowledge. When Blunt and Theron appear together, you can feel the chemistry of two sisters who distrust and come to despise one another. That alone could have produced many excellent moments, and early on we think that's what's coming. Then, the film rockets past the original and disappears into predictability, leaving the end for their big bear hug. And their throwdown feels neither epic nor personal, like two actresses acting on yet another soundstage with little idea of how to imbue their characters with a dose of humanity. Chastain is the show-stealer here as Hemsworth's wife; she chews on her Scottish accent, besting Hemsworth both in terms of style and substance. And yet the big reveal here is so poorly handled that all Chastain can do is look at Theron without saying a word before disappearing back into the castle.

One might read my rants and think I actually hated it. Not true: it's not awful like The Fifth Wave, Gods of Egypt, Norm of the North, Barbershop, or any of the literally dozen flicks that bring up the rear in my 2016 list. Winter's War sports great CGI (even after the amazing spaces imagined in The Jungle Book), the costumes are impeccably assembled, and the music by James Newton-Howard is big and should play well on XD and other related systems. But there's never a sense of urgency here, no worry about Ravenna or Freya's motives, and the reveal about Eric's lost love takes a lot of energy out of this story's sails. Winter's War feels like Universal purposely left out Stewart, thinking that a well-cast shell game over there wouldn't expose its core problem over here. A recast would have produced better results, and you'll see why if you decide to give this one a chance.

The reaction of our test audience surrounding The Huntsman: Winter's War felt a lot like the other swords-and-sandals epics we've been forced to consume lately. That's not the smashing of swords you're hearing, but a distinct thud over a genre that's suffering from fatigue. But it's not like this one didn't try; I can't sau the same for the already long litter of 2016 failures. Filled with some of the best leads in the business, Winter's War still fails to separate itself both from its predecessor and other better-crafted works, touching off a discussion of Stewart's whereabouts rather than a meaningful discourse about the film itself. Look for it to get pummeled this weekend by The Jungle Book and fade fast as summer feels ready to make us forget it. And we're sadly sure to do so.

The Huntsman: Winter's War is rated PG-13 for fantasy action violence and some sensuality and has a runtime of 114 minutes.

Movie Review: #ELVISANDNIXON Hilarious!

RAMA delivers another great review.

Hilarious!

Who would’ve thought that a movie could be built around one of the most famous photographs ever?! I genuinely love everything about ELVIS & NIXON, not only because I’ve been a longtime fan of Elvis Presley, ever since my Dad introduced me to his music when I was a kid, but also because this is one absolutely hilarious film, the comedy just hits the mark one after the other, it’s laugh out loud funny.

ELVIS & NIXON, directed by Liza Johnson, is essentially the story of how the King of Rock n’ Roll literally met the world’s most powerful man, President Nixon at the White House. I know the first thing that comes to your mind when you watch the trailer probably the fact that Michael Shannon doesn’t look like Elvis and Kevin Spacey doesn’t look like Nixon, but what those two great actors did in this film is not impersonation, they managed to capture the essence of the characters as written or created in the script. So this is not a biopic and it’s not caricature either. When two people with big egos collide, funny things bound to happen, and that’s what’s presented in ELVIS & NIXON.

There’s more to the story than just the meeting though, Elvis has a best friend, Jerry Schilling, played in the film by actor Alex Pettyfer in his surprisingly mature performance. And on the other side of the ring, Richard Nixon has his right hand people, one of whom is played by acotr Colin Hanks, his character knows what is politically beneficial for the President but since Nixon is a stubborn man, that situation contributes its own comedy as well.

The way Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon play these respective characters is that they have delusion of grandeur but the film also suggests that that may be just some kind of defense mechanism because all their lives they had to prove themselves worthy, these are two famous and influential man with hidden sadness deep down. Elvis channels it in trying to please his friends, while Nixon tries to rationalize his arguments no matter how wrong he can be. Some people might see this film as trying to make these two people look like buffoons but that's not how I see it. If anything, I think ELVIS & NIXON is one of this year’s most well-written and character-driven comedies.

The details of what’s included in the promotion are featured in the flyer seen here with complete details provided on the Terror Films Store Link below.

The Documentary promotional release will begin on April 27th and continue for 27 Days, ending on May 18th and will be the only time this Limited Edition Offer will be available, prior to the documentary’s official release currently set for October 2016.

During this limited time frame fans will be able to order the Limited Edition Combo Pack, which will include a dual Region Free DVD / Blu-Ray copy of the Documentary featuring interviews with Director Mary Lambert and the entire cast; including Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby, Miko Hughes, Brad Greenquist, Susan Blommaert, the Berdahl Twins and many more. The film also features never-before-seen footage from the sets in Maine, interviews with key crew, the town’s people and packed full of bonus features, including a fan appreciation sizzle reel, a personal interview with the documentary filmmakers and much, much more.

The film, which was discovered by Terror Film’s exec Jim Klock at the Rhode Island Flickers’ Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Horror Film Festival in 2014 is an important release for the company and they are not taking it lightly. Terror Films exec, Joe Dain who negotiated the deal with the filmmakers stated, “We not only understand the relevance of our Company’s association with this iconic film via this incredible documentary; more importantly we understand the obligation we have to the fans to make this release as special as possible.”

Filmmakers Campopiano and White stated: “When we first set out for Maine nearly six years ago we thought, at most, we would take some photographs of the filming locations from Stephen King's Pet Sematary and post them to social media. But upon that very first visit we knew that we had stumbled upon something special -- stories, people, and places that had been barely documented for the extensive, global horror fan community. We knew within that first year that we needed to go back to Maine and continue to dig, not just to satisfy our own curiosities but also to try and bring an in-depth making of story about Pet Sematary to others who also share a deep appreciation for the film. Terror Films has stepped up and showcased a similar love for Pet Sematary but, more importantly, the belief that the stories, people, and places we've documented have significance and ought to be shared with anyone who has an interest in Pet Sematary, Stephen King, the horror genre, or film in general.”

TV Review: #Containment – S01E01 - Pilot Episode

This has to be one of the most intriguing pilot episodes I’ve seen thus far for a viral/zombie/outbreak show.

Review By Erika Ashley

A virus breaks out in the heart of Atlanta weaving a group of strangers into a deadly mix.
During this pilot episode of the much anticipated new television drama Containment breaks into the scene with a bang. Jump start to a preview of Day 13 of the viral outbreak. The National Guard busts out of a trucking container into a frenzy of citizens fighting for survival. Bodies are burning in the street, a mother screams for help while carrying a bloodied lifeless child in her arms. A true feast for the eyes of hungry horror and gore fanatics.

Flash back to the beginning – Day 1 of the outbreak. A group of children visit the Atlanta Midtown Hospital on a field trip accompanied by their doe-eyed teacher, Katie Frank. While the children enter the facility the scene jumps to a doctor, Rita Sanders, showing signs of infection and is quarantined. She recalls how she became infected, informing another attending physician who the potential Patient Zero could be. Suddenly during her retelling of her encounter she realizes that the patient signed his release form with her pen, the very pen still in her front pocket. Jump to a couple across town, Lex and Jana, fighting after another failed attempt at moving in together. Jana struggles with her own commitment issues and Lex storms out after he is called in work for an emergency meeting.

At the Department of Public Health a meeting is being held between multiple state and local law enforcement agencies debriefing about a potential deadly outbreak. The local Atlanta Police are tasked to locate and return Patient Zero – a Syrian man in the country illegally. While in another location in town a young pregnant teenage couple, Teresa and Xander, plan their escape to runaway together. Back at the hospital Doctor Sanders gets worse and begins coughing up blood as a main symptom. The children are still in the hospital and Katie asks another attending physician, Bobby Carver, where their tour lead doctor is without any real response. In a completely awkward and out of place moment Jake, another police officer and best friends with Lex, reaches out to Jana to give her grief about not moving in with Lex. Jake also reminds her of their short lived romance but then Lex arrives and gives him the instruction to join the team looking for Patient Zero.
When the students return to their bus after their field trip is cancelled a young student sneezes but her step-father and bus driver insists she had a previous cold/hay-fever. Dr. Carver runs aboard the school bus and demands the class return to the hospital and they oblige. Just a few blocks away from the hospital in another building Jana arrives to work to handle an emergency of her own. The high ranking CDC doctor, Dr. Sabine Lommers, informs Lex what could potentially happen during the outbreak and tries to win him over as a face of the CDC and Law Enforcement. She insists that the virus could be a potential bioterrorism attack. Dr. Lommers plays heavily into the politics of the situation and suggests that if Lex participates his career could have a very successful outcome. When Lex attempts to walk away Dr. Lommers presses harder and explains how dangerous and serious the situation at hand is for the community and Lex.

While still working away at her office, Jana, gets flack from her colleague about failing yet another attempt at committing to Lex. Just then he calls to inform her about the outbreak and they quickly make up when she agrees to finally move in for real this time. Jump to Teresa having to reschedule her runaway train departure because her grandfather, Bert, whom works at the hospital is being held due to the hospital’s precaution shutdown. Teresa leaves a voicemail for Xander that instead of the 3PM train she’ll be taking the 5PM instead. Just then the police arrive at a home of the potential Patient Zero. The patient’s uncle answers the door and initially attempts to lie but comes clean when the police, in full SWAT attire, demand for the safety of the others that he hand over the Syrian man. The uncle finally admits that his nephew entered the country in the cargo compartment of a plane. The police hear the man in the back bedroom and bust in to find a family member attending to him while he lays in bed sick and dying. While the police try to apprehend the man he quickly jumps up and attempts to run but ends up in the doorway sneezing on Jake’s riot gear facemask.
Back the hospital two students, including Katie’s son – Quentin, disappear from the group and Katie goes to look for them. She runs into Jake in a restricted area and Dr. Carver allows them to look for the students as long as they stay close, but reminds them to stay 4-6 feet away from anyone and everyone at all times. The two enter another off-limits area but end up finding two dead infected individuals in a quarantine area. Jump to another meeting where Dr. Sommers asks for an update from the other CDC doctor on the case – Dr. Victor Cannerts, who gives them the most up to date information on his findings. The Syrian man is Patient Zero, has become rabid during quarantine and infected his attending physician. Dr. Sanders and her boyfriend are dead. Patient Zero’s entire family shows signs of infection and are brought into quarantine. The virus is found to be a pathogenic, highly contagious and fatal in 100% of the victims.

Returning to the hospital Katie locates her son and the other student with Bert looking at lab rats. Quickly Jake and Katie begin to flirt and obvious chemistry arises. Dr. Carver finds them in the off-limits hall and informs them that the hospital is on a 48-hour lock down and just then he sneezes in their direction while their face masks are off. Jake begins to freak out and blames Lex for putting him in the situation. Flashing back to the CDC meeting, Dr. Cannerts continues his findings and informs the group that the latest diagnostic information the agent has been identified as Influenza A with hemoglutin Type 7 Neuraminidase Type 2 or H7N2, or an avian type virus. There's been a mutation that now allows it to transfer between humans. The CDC found a vial containing the viral substance in the belongings of Patient Zero and Dr. Lommers confirms Top Level Containment Practices need to be put in affect and dismisses non-essential personnel from the meeting, including Lex.
Over at the train station, Teresa tries to board her 5PM train but since the CDC has begun lock down practices she is unable to board when the station is shut down. Lex attempts to reach out to Jana without luck. Jake calls Lex and blames him for his potential infection. Dr. Lommers insists on the quarantine of the city by fencing in the virus. And Lex agrees to be a part of the containment in hopes to save Jana and his city. Press conferences announce to the public what’s going on and how the city is being places on a quarantine lock down. The virus can only be passed by bodily fluids and has an incubation period is 16-48 hours and they must go a full 48 hours to be removed from lock down. Jake sees Dr. Carver in a quarantine cell and he instantly looks doomed. On the outside Lex finds Jana on the wrong side of the fence and Xander finds Teresa on the wrong side as well. Lex promises to do all he can to save the ones he loves and his city.

And we’re back to Day 13 of the outbreak.

This has to be one of the most intriguing pilot episodes I’ve seen thus far for a viral/zombie/outbreak show. Already you can see the connections between the characters while they are still stumbling around not yet aware of each other. The visual and makeup effects are well done and the story moves along quickly jumping from one character to the other without it being out of place. The storytelling is fluid and continuous. It’s exciting to see such a realistic potential zombie outbreak. Most other attempts are hokey and overdone, but with the subtle bioterrorism attack the story seems almost believable which is pretty bad ass but extremely frightening. Not everything was perfect of course, there were some pretty cheesy dialogue moments. Especially with the, “4 to 6 feet” line being repeated by nearly everyone in the hospital. Not to mention Jake does not wear a mask that covers his mouth. Instead he wears a face shield, where his mouth is still open to potential dangers of sneezes and general air inhalation. But, with all that being said you bet your sweet ass I’ll be making sure everyone around stay 4-6 feet away and I’ll be in a head to toe bodysuit if anything remotely similar to this outbreak happens in real life.

Idris Elba To Star In "Guerrilla" Six-Part Limited Series

According to The Wrap Six-part limited series “Guerrilla” is billed as a London-based love story
Idris Elba and John Ridley are teaming up for a U.K.-based 1970s civil rights drama — and while it might not sound like one at first blush, “Guerrilla” is being billed as a love story.

“Guerrilla” tells the story of a politically active couple whose relationship and values are tested when they liberate a political prisoner and form a radical underground cell in 1970s London, per host networks Showtime and Sky Atlantic. Their ultimate target becomes the Black Power Desk, a true-life, secretive counter-intelligence unit within Special Branch dedicated to crushing all forms of black activism.

Whilst the series is set against a background of social and political activism, at its heart “Guerrilla” is about a relationship under pressure, and the reality that for any couple there comes a point when the choices they make have real and lasting consequences, the official description continued.

Elba (“Luther”) will co-star on the project, while Ridley (“12 Years a Slave”) will write most of the episodes and direct the first two.

Along with that dynamic duo, executive producers include Patrick Spence and Katie Swinden for Fifty Fathoms, Tracy Underwood for ABC Signature and Michael McDonald for Stearns Castle.
The six-part one-hour limited series is set to begin production in London late this summer.

“We’re excited to partner with our friends at Sky to bring a fascinating and unexplored story spearheaded by John and Idris, two major creative talents at the top of their game,” said David Nevins, president and chief executive officer, Showtime Networks Inc. “‘Guerrilla’ will surely keep our audience at their edge of their seats.”

“It’s been a long time desire of mine to collaborate with Mr. Ridley and his work here is nothing short of a masterclass in character building and story-telling. TV is in for a treat,” Elba added.
“I am both humbled by and impressed with Idris’s passion toward bringing this story to life,” said Ridley. “I share his commitment for populating the culture with driven and complicated people of color, and believe we have great partners on the producorial level, and with our broadcasters Sky Atlantic and Showtime.”

New #Furious8 Poster

Back in January, Vin Diesel did his usual social media promotion duty and put up the first poster from the eighth Fast & Furious film online, which listed it as Fast 8. He's back with the new image, which appears to switch the title to Furious 8, while also making us wonder if they're just unveiling the full title word by word...

We suppose it makes sense to follow the naming standard set by the seventh film, but it does rather crush our dream of future movies simply taking bits of the title and using them (And 9, anyone?)

Regardless, Furious 8 (or whatever it ends up being known as over here) has F. Gary Gray directing Vin and the returning regulars (including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris and Dwayne Johnson) facing off against new villain Charlize Theron in a story that remains a mystery to be discovered a quarter mile at a time. We do know that Kurt Russell's mysterious Mr. Nobody will be back, bringing protege Scott Eastwood along for the ride. With shooting planned for Iceland, Atlanta, New York and (assuming all the permits clear) Cuba.

Snatch Is Becoming A TV Show On @Crackle

Variety is reporting Sony’s Crackle has ordered a 10-episode, one-hour drama series based on Guy Ritchie’s 2000 heist movie, “Snatch.”

The free, ad-supported Internet TV network announced the new show at its 2016 upfront presentation in New York — Crackle’s only new original programming announcement, along with renewals of shows including “The Art of More,” “SuperMansion” with Bryan Cranston and Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.”

Crackle positioned the “Snatch” series as being in the vein of “Fargo,” the TV series on FX based on the movie from Joel and Ethan Coen, carrying the spirit of the setting in the original feature film while “creating a new world.”

The “Snatch” series, inspired by a real-life gold bullion heist in London, will center on a group of twenty-something, up-and-coming hustlers who stumble upon a truck load of stolen gold bullion and are suddenly thrust into the high-stakes world of organized crime. The hoods must quickly learn to navigate London’s underworld in encounters with rogue cops, gypsy fighters, international mobsters and local villains descend.

Crackle did not announce expected release date for the “Snatch” series or other details.

The 2000 film “Snatch,” from Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Screen Gems, starred Benicio Del Toro, Dennis Farina, Jason Flemyng, Brad Pitt, Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham and Rade Sherbedgia.

Enter For A Chance To See SING STREET On April 27th at 7:30 PM In Minneapolis.

SING STREET is written and directed by John Carney, and stars Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Aidan Gillen, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Jack Reynor, Lucy Boynton and Mark McKenna.

SING STREET takes us back to 1980s Dublin seen through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy named Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who is looking for a break from a home strained by his parents’ relationship and money troubles, while trying to adjust to his new inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher. He finds a glimmer of hope in the mysterious, über-cool and beautiful Raphina (Lucy Boynton), and with the aim of winning her heart he invites her to star in his band’s music videos. There’s only one problem: he’s not part of a band…yet. She agrees, and now Conor must deliver what he’s promised - calling himself “Cosmo” and immersing himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the decade, he forms a band with a few lads, and the group pours their heart into writing lyrics and shooting videos. Inspired by writer/director John Carney’s (ONCE, BEGIN AGAIN) life and love for music, SING STREET shows us a world where music has the power to take us away from the turmoil of everyday life and transform us into something greater.
