BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Dwayne Johnson To Star In Doc Savage Film

If it seems like Dwayne Johnson is attached to a new film almost every other day, that's probably because he is. And he's a workaholic, who has probably lifted more weight today than many of us manage in a week. His latest announcement, though, confirms what had been rumored and talked about for a while: he's attached to star in Doc Savage for co-writer/director Shane Black . The Iron Man 3 director has made no secret of the fact that he thinks Johnson is right for the lead in the film, and now Johnson has hit Instagram with a picture (see below) of Black and his co-writers Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry sitting with Johnson and production partner Hiram Garcia to, in The Rock's words, "chop up creative and break story on this very cool project. Comic book fans around the world know that the cool thing about 'Doc' Savage is that he's the inspiration for Superman. First name Clark, called "Man of Bronze", retreats to his 'Fortres

Shane Black's Predator To Reinvent, Not Reboot

New film to play around in existing universe. By Brandon Wolfe Last year, it was announced that Iron Man 3 ’s Shane Black was working on a reboot of Predator (a film in which Black had a small acting role) with his old Monster Squad writing partner, Fred Dekker. However, producer John Davis has clarified that the film will actually be an “inventive sequel” that will incorporate the existing series’ lore. "Shane shot a movie and he's doing a pilot now, but I've read a lot of his (Predator) script and I think it's genius. I think it's genius and I think it's entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way; looking at it from a different light. He's just an amazing writer-director. He's got a way of looking at this that makes you excited again. I love this franchise. It was the first movie I ever did. I remember in being in the jungle with Arnold [Schwarzenegger] as a 28-year-old and going, 'This i

Predator To Get Rebooted

The " Lethal Weapon " creator and " Iron Man 3 " director will write the treatment and is attached to direct the project, which could relaunch the sci-fi action franchise. The ’80s action classic Predator is getting the reboot treatment from 20th Century Fox. But before some purists cry foul, they should know that this reboot comes with an interesting attachment: Shane Black , the venerable screenwriter behind Lethal Weapon and writer-director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3. Black will write the treatment for the project, then will hand over scripting duties to Fred Dekker, his university chum with whom he wrote 1987’s Monster Squad . Black will oversee the writing and is also attached to direct. John Davis, who produced the original with Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon, is producing the reboot. Predator is the muscle-bound action 1987 movie that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura as commandos being stalked in a jungle

Images From Marvel's One-Shot, Called "All Hail The King"

We’ll start this story off with a spoiler warning for those who somehow missed last year’s box office barnstormer Iron Man 3 and would cry foul at us revealing anything. If you’re at all worried about spoilers, check out another story. Perhaps this one? For those still with us: Marvel has revealed full details about its new One-Shot, called All Hail The King , and starring Ben Kingsley . All Hail The King will pick up the story of “ The Mandarin ”, AKA narcotics, booze, girls and footie-happy actor Trevor Slattery, who was part of Aldrich Killian ( Guy Pearce )’s big plan in the latest Tony Stark adventure. The short will continue the story of Slattery, sent to prison for his part in the scheme. "' The Further Adventures of Trevor ' was something we had talked about on set all the time,” IM3 co-writer Drew Pearce tells EW . “And when we sat down to talk about what the short would be, it was executive producer Stephen Broussard, and Kevin Feige and myself and Joss Wh

2013 Big Movie Questions - Q3 Report

We Ask The Big Movie Questions & Seek Film Insight For The Third Half Of 2013 By: Matt Cummings With Quarter 3 in the books, we look back at some movie questions and make bold new predictions. After a terrible Quarter 1 and much improved Q2 , we move into an odd period: the Fall season starts the day after Labor Day, but continues through the first Friday in November. That's quite a haul in terms of studying box office numbers, but if we look at things from a quarterly perspective, things get a little clearer. As part of our ongoing series, we look back at several big movie questions we posed in January, and postulate on the Holiday/Oscar season that starts next month. In addition, we've re-posted links to our Quarter 1 and Q2 Report, in case you want to berate us. Enjoy. Did audiences stand in line to see Arnold and Stallone?  No - although we loved Escape Plan for its 80's action and twisty plot, audiences have largely stayed away. Weekend box o

Hollywood's Positive Month Doesn't Cure The Patient's Long-Term Issues. By: MattInRC

Hollywood's Positive Month Doesn't Cure The Patient's Long-Term Issues. By: MattInRC Back in late March, we reviewed the top box office performers year-to-date but also lamented about Hollywood's continued domestic woes . Among the bad news we reported at that time: As of March 30th, the industry (compounded monthly) was down a staggering 63%; Five of the top 10 films were leftover releases from 2012; April was similarly terrible, reflecting a 12% loss from 2012 - at $634,100,000 - with a compounded-monthly loss of 75%; The market hasn't seen such poor performances since 2011. These bits of data could have created bad omens for the Summer 2013 schedule, which does not have an Avengers, Dark Knight Rises, or Skyfall (all of which made $2 billion domestically) to lead the charge. But, we did have several intriguing releases such as Star Trek: Into Darkness , Fast Six , and Iron Man 3 . So, how did the critical month of May fair for Hollywood? A

IRON MAN 3 Rules The Box Office

The Disney tentpole's North American debut is bested only by Marvel pic " The Avengers "; the threequel has taken in a massive $504.8 million internationally, led by China with $63.5 million. Kicking off the season with the pedal to the metal, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man 3 made the record books as it opened to $175.3 million from 4,253 theaters in North America, the No. 2 debut of all time behind fellow Marvel pic The Avengers ($207.4 million), also starring Downey as Iron Man. Iron Man 3 received a glowing A CinemaScore from audiences, fueling word of mouth. Overseas, the Disney and Marvel threequel grossed $175.9 million in its second weekend, putting the 3D movie's international total at $504.8 million and early worldwide haul at $680.1 million. Internationally, Iron Man 3 - the first title in the franchise to be released in 3D -- is all but matching Avengers overseas, where 3D remains a big draw. China leads with a whopping $63.5 million, the top op

Does May Finally Bring Moviegoers Back To Theaters?

Does May finally bring moviegoers back to theaters? By: MattInRC With crowds still staying away from theaters in droves - April 2013 was down 21% from April 2012 - the movie season is about a huge shot in the arm, with no less than 4 potential $200 million domestic grossers slated for release - Iron Man 3 , Star Trek Into Darkness, Fast Six, and The Hangover Part III . That's an impressive lineup, and one that Hollywood desperately needs big numbers from in order to right their ship. Let's take a look at each of these by week: May 3 Iron Man 3 is already a monster at the box office, potentially to take in a mesmerizing $175 million in its opening weekend. And while that's exactly what Hollywood needed, it's actually lower than last year's The Avengers , which opened to a $207.4 million domestic weekend. Say what you want about the film's treatment of The Mandarin, it seems like the film has already set a pretty high bar for the Summer 2013 season.

IRON MAN 3 Review. It's More Than Its Previews

IRON MAN 3 Review By: MattInRC Summer 2013 kicks off with the excellent IRON MAN 3 , a film that proves it's more than its previews. Marvel Studios has been on a dominating roll of late. After 2012's amazing The Avengers , the studio known for Thor, Captain America, The Incredible Hulk could have rested on their laurels, content to churn out successful but empty follow-ups (George Lucas, are you listening???). Not Marvel: it's changed the way we watch movies, now and forever. No one waited around until after the credits pre-2008 when Iron Man first debuted; now, we hope other franchises get the hint. Marvel has defined the connected universe, making each of their releases almost like essential rights of passage. Even 2010's rushed Iron Man 2 couldn't lessen demand for a super-hero mashup that put DC on suicide watch. As IRON MAN 3 soars into theaters this week, we're reminded once again of why we love this franchise and the studio who continues t
