Viggo Mortensen To Play General Zod In Superman Reboot?

Now that British hunk Henry Cavill is set to play the Man of Steel, the search is on the fill out the rest of the cast of Warner Bros.' big-budget Superman reboot. Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that producer Christopher Nolan and director Zack Snyder are zeroing in on an intriguing actor to play the villain: Viggo Mortensen.

Mortensen, who is still in negotiations for Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, is said to be at the top of the list to play General Zod, the evil and super-powered scientist who was portrayed by Terrence Stamp in 1980's Superman II. If Mortensen's Snow White deal doesn't close, that would potentially free him up to make Superman. Or Universal and Warner Bros. could work out his schedule and enable him to do both.

Sources say no talks have commenced and that Mortensen is just a "person of interest," much like Kevin Costner is for the role of Jonathan Kent. The actors aren't the only ones considered for their respective roles, though they are the ones most seriously talked about.

Snyder is in the midst of meeting actors for not only the role of Zod and Kent, but the three female parts well. Given the Nolan pedigree with the Batman films and the tenpole nature of a Superman film, the roles are considered some of the hottest and most-desired in town.

Top 10 1980's Comedy Movies

In anticipation of the upcoming 80's-set comedy Take Me Home Tonight starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Teresa Palmer, and Chris Pratt, we here at IAR wanted to come up with a top ten list of 80's movies. It felt just too easy to list some of the greats from that decade, like Ghostbusters or Back to the Future, so instead, we came up with a list of ten movies that like to party in the most 80's way. These ten films all typify that peculiar impulse to party in pastel, an impulse amply represented in Take Me Home Tonight.

10. Porky's

9. Revenge of the Nerds

8. Sixteen Candles

7. Bachelor Party

6. Real Genius

5. Footloose

4. House Party

3. Risky Business

2. Valley Girl

New Winnie The Pooh Movie Poster

Yahoo has delivered us the latest poster for the new Disney film Winnie The Pooh.

Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh,” the first big-screen Pooh adventure from Disney animation in more than 35 years. With the charm, wit and whimsy of the original featurettes, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Well a tail is either there or it isn’t there,” said Pooh. “And yours isn’t… there.” Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some hunny. Inspired by five stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style, “Winnie the Pooh” hits theaters July 15, 2011.

Notes:

Veteran Disney animator/storyman/director Burny Mattinson (a key animator on the 1974 featurette “Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too!”) serves as senior story artist, with a dynamic young directing duo—Stephen J. Anderson and Don Hall—at the helm.

Director Stephen Anderson helmed animated films “Meet the Robinsons” and “Journey Beneath the Sea,” among others; he worked as a story supervisor on “Brother Bear” and “The Emperor’s New Groove,” and as an additional story artist on 2008’s award-winning “Bolt.” Director Don Hall is a veteran story artist at Walt Disney Animation Studios with credits including “The Princess and the Frog,” “Meet the Robinsons,” “Brother Bear,” “Home on the Range,” “The Emperor’s New Groove” and “Tarzan.”

“Winnie the Pooh” welcomes a few new voices to the Hundred Acre Wood: Craig Ferguson (“The Late Show with Craig Ferguson”), Tom Kenny (“SpongeBob SquarePants”) and Bud Luckey (director of the Pixar short “Boundin’”).

Actress/musician/singer/songwriter Zooey Deschanel (Indie folk band, “She & Him”) provides the vocals for a special rendition of the beloved “Winnie the Pooh” theme song.

London-born A.A. Milne (1882-1956), a noted writer and playwright, penned two books and several poems about the beloved Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin (named after Milne’s son). His books are actually collections of stories, five of which inspired the film.

A.A. Milne’s son’s teddy bear inspired the beloved character. The child named his bear after Winnie, a Canadian black bear from London Zoo. Pooh was the name of a swan they encountered together.
Filmmakers visited Ashdown Forest where Milne wrote the books and the real Christopher Robin spent his summer vacations.

Tony® Award-winning songwriter Bobby Lopez, and his wife Kristen, wrote the seven spirited new songs for Pooh and his pals, including “A Pooh Bear Takes Care of His Tummy,” “A Very Important Thing To Do,” “Everything Is Honey” and “The Winner Song.” Lopez is composer on several episodes of “The Wonder Pets,” which earned a Daytime Emmy® in 2006 for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition.

Inspired by five stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Winnie the Pooh” reunites audiences with the hunny-loving, philosophical bear and friends Eeyore, Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet and Owl in a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit.

Captain Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) wakes with a jolt to find himself on a commuter train heading into Chicago. Although the other passengers all seem to know him, he has absolutely no idea where – or even who – he is. The last thing Colter remembers is flying a helicopter mission in Iraq, but here he is in someone else’s life going through someone else’s morning commute. Before he can do anything an express train zooms by on the opposite track and a bomb explodes, seemingly killing Colter and all the other passengers. Colter comes to in an isolation chamber, strapped to a seat, and wearing his military flight suit. He still has no idea what’s happening, except that he’s being spoken to by mission controller Carol Goodwin (Vera Farmiga), who calmly recites a series of memory questions to which Colter is shocked to realize he knows the answers.

He learns he’s part of an operation called “Beleaguered Castle,” but before he can progress any further, Goodwin starts up the machinery and suddenly Colter is back on the train, at exactly the same time he first appeared there, once again speeding through Chicago with the same group of commuters. Colter figures he’s in some kind of simulation exercise, with his task being to find the bomber on board the train before it goes off again. Living the explosion over and over, Colter must uncover the identity of the bomber, while also figuring out what the alternative universe of “Beleaguered Castle” is. Adding to the puzzle, Colter uses the second chance opportunities to make peace with his father, and to find romance with a fellow passenger on the train.

The Bodyguard Reboot Is On The Way

And IIIII Will Aways Loooove Youuuuuu, Yes Warner Bros is rebooting its 1992 hit The Bodyguard, the film that paired Kevin Costner with Whitney Houston and became for its time one of the biggest global hits in studio history with a $411 million worldwide gross. And my guess is that Beyoncé will be getting the lead role and the remake of the song also.

The film will be scripted by Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer, whose action comedy script Family Getaway made the 2010 Black List and is a priority project at Warner Bros. Dan Lin will produce through his Lin Pictures banner, and Mark Bauch is co-producer.

Scripted by Lawrence Kasdan and directed by Mick Jackson, the original was a fairly straight ahead tale of a Secret Service agent (Costner in a Steve McQueen homage, down to his hairstyle) drafted to protect a singing diva whose life has been threatened by a stalker, then falling for her in a way he fears is a distraction from his job. The new version is similar, including the love story, but here the bodyguard will be a former Iraq war veteran who gets the job protecting the star as his first gig after leaving the Army. He discovers that the world of Twitter, Google Maps and TMZ has made access to celebrities easier than ever, making the job more difficult than ever. The goal is to take a young female singer with global appeal and give her the platform that The Bodyguard did Houston.

It becomes the second music-driven remake for the studio, which just got a commitment from Clint Eastwood to direct Beyonce. The studio is in the process of landing the male star.

Lin just wrapped Sherlock Holmes 2, and is producing with Kevin McCormick Gangster Squad, which Ruben Fleischer will direct. He is also developing the LEGO Movie, which has Phil Lord and Christopher Miller attached to direct. The scribes are repped by UTA and Mosaic.

D.J. Caruso To Direct Preacher

D.J. Caruso has closed a deal to direct Preacher, Columbia’s adaptation of the popular 1990s DC/Vertigo comic book series.

Neal Moritz and his Original Films banner are producing with Kickstart Prods.' Jason Netter. John August wrote the screenplay.

Created by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, Preacher, which ran from 1995-2000, told the story of a down-and-out Texas preacher possessed by Genesis, a supernatural entity conceived by the unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon.

Given immense powers, the preacher teamed with an old girlfriend and a hard-drinking Irish vampire and set out on a journey across America to find God -- who apparently had abandoned his duties in heaven -- and hold him accountable for his negligence.

Here is the comic book plot:

Preacher tells the story of Jesse Custer, a down-and-out preacher in the small Texas town of Annville. Custer was accidentally possessed by the supernatural creature named Genesis in an incident which killed his entire congregation and flattened his church.

Genesis, the product of the unauthorized, unnatural coupling of an angel and a demon, is an infant with no sense of individual will. However, as it is composed of both pure goodness and pure evil, it might have enough power to rival that of God Himself. In other words, Jesse Custer, bonded to Genesis, may have become the most powerful being in the whole of living existence.

Custer, driven by a strong sense of right and wrong, goes on a journey across the United States attempting to (literally) find God, who abandoned Heaven the moment Genesis was born. He also begins to discover the truth about his new powers. They allow him, when he wills it, to command the obedience of those who hear and comprehend his words. He is joined by his old girlfriend Tulip O'Hare, as well as a hard-drinking Irish vampire named Cassidy.

During the course of their journeys, the three encounter enemies and obstacles both sacred and profane, including: the Saint of Killers, an invincible, quick-drawing, perfect-aiming, come-lately Angel of Death answering only to "He who sits on the throne"; a serial-killer called the 'Reaver-Cleaver'; The Grail, a secret organization controlling the governments of the world and protecting the bloodline of Jesus; Herr Starr, ostensible Allfather of the Grail, a megalomaniac with a penchant for prostitutes, who wishes to use Custer for his own ends; several fallen angels; and Jesse's own redneck 'family' — particularly his nasty Cajun grandmother, her mighty bodyguard Jody, and the 'animal-loving' T.C.

Caruso’s boarding gives new life to the project, which previously had Sam Mendes attached. When Mendes left for James Bond 23, the project was in development purgatory as it searched for a director. Darren Aronofsky flirted with the project at one point, but after making I Am Number Four.

Never Say Never Extended Version In Theaters This Weekend Only

In an unprecedented move, Paramount's Insurge Pictures will release an updated director's fan cut of Justin Bieber: Never Say Never in a one-week exclusive run, beginning Feb. 25.

I find this to funny, people who have already gone out and wasted X amount of money to see this film will have to cough up even more cash to see the newly edited film. So if you haven't see the film wait til this weekend to get your moneys worth.  Do you still have Bieber Fever?

Be sure to check out our review of the film Here. Yes we have a review of the film.

Director Jon M. Chu's updated version will play only in 3D runs in the U.S. and Canada, replacing the original version. There will be 40 minutes of new footage.

Chu has trimmed 30 minutes of footage from the original Never Say Never to accommodate the addtional scenes. Updated version runs 115 minutes, instead of the original running time of 105 minutes.
Move is designed to whip up renewed interest in the film among Bieber's diehard fans, and spark repeat viewing in the film's third weekend in release. Never Say Never is already a financial success, having grossed $51.4 million in its first 11 days in release.

The original Never Say Never will continue playing in 2D runs. The cost of a 35mm print makes sending the director's cut to those theaters financially unworkable. Digital prints, however, are a fraction of the cost.
As he began the editing process, Chu realized he had a significant amount of footage that he couldn't use in the initial theatrical release. He then spent dozens of hours on Twitter and Facebook engaging with fans to see what they would like to see.

Some of the new footage includes more of Bieber's friends and hometwon life, as well as new songs and special footage shot of the film's premiere at theaters across the country.

"I realized I had an embarrassment of riches when I was I in the cutting room," said Chu. "This cut allows me to retain some of the best scenes from the original movie, while incorporating previously unseen footage and new material I shot during our extensive promotional tour on behalf of the movie. Justin's dedication to his fan base is unwavering and I was inspired as a filmmaker to attempt to provide them a unique experience that showed even more of his world."

Exclusive Interview With The Sexy & Talented Tanit Phoenix

Here is my Exclusive Interview with Tanit Phoenix. She is one of the Sexiest and nicest person you'll ever meet in the business.

Tanit Phoenix opens up to me about her starring role in Death Race 2 and she talks about her upcoming show Femme Fatales that she is filming as we speak for NBC, starring in Maya, in which she had first hand experience in the negative side of making a film like that. We also talk about Lost Boys and her modeling career.

Phoenix was born in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa to a family of Irish and Dutch descent. Growing up, Phoenix excelled at a variety of activities, including dance, athletics, and music. At an early age, she was enrolled in a ballet class at the behest of her mother; it lasted for 10 years.

Phoenix began her acting career as Candy in Lord of War opposite Nicolas Cage and Jared Leto, and then the following year starred opposite Wesley Snipes in the horror film Gallowwalker. In 2010, she starred in the horror film Lost Boys: The Thirst and the action film Death Race 2 opposite Luke Goss, Sean Bean, Ving Rhames and Danny Trejo. Tanit has just completed filming the comedy Spud opposite John Cleese in South Africa.

Make sure you follow Tanit on Twitter. And on Facebook.

1. Death Race 2 is out on DVD now, I am wondering how was it filming in South Africa? And tell me about your character you play.

I play a character called Katrina Banks, an ex military sniper sent to jail for killing a superior officer. She navigates Luke's car and ends up discovering Luke has a lot of similarities she has, taking care of those who can't fend for themselves. Filming in SA was amazing, for one I was Luke Goss' and Danny Trejo's tour guide.

2. Filming all those action scenes did you get any bumps or bruise? I have read that you have trained in the art of Muay Thai boxing.

It was pretty intense. I worked with great stunt people who trained me pretty hard everyday, and helped me look good on camera and yes I am trained in Muay Tai. It was wonderful to play a strong physically adept character who got to shoot machine guns and smack the crap out of male convicts.
The only bruises I gained from this film were from the car scenes. Being thrown around inside the car was not fun.

3. Can you tell me about Femme Fatales? What it is about and who is also starring in the film with you?

Femme Fatales is a new tv series for NBC. Its contemporary film noir, and I am the narrator to the show. I have been dubbed, the sexy Rod Serling (twilight zone). I also play small character in every episode and lead the audience on a journey, showing them who these woman are who kill men. I am the only series regular!

4. How was filming the movie Lost Boys: Thirst? Have you seen the previous two films before getting this role?

I saw the film with Keiffer Sutherland, is a cult classic, and I was excited to play a vampire romance novelist who actually just wants to be a vampire, its rather sad actually as I am killed in the end by the boy I am trying to save. Lost Boys makes for a good laugh with the over the top weapons Corey used.
But yet again, it was being filmed in SA and not a lot of lead roles are offered to SA actors, especially when you are starting out in your career, so I jumped at the chance to do it and gain some experience. Now that I live in LA, my film choices are different as I go up against A list actors.

5. You have taken on some risqué roles in the past like Maya. How do you determine what roles to take and you seem pretty self confident with you body.

Maya or the badly named (making no sense at all) K. Nights was originally a beautifully written Indie film about an Indian girl traveling with her best friend to America to discover her heritage. With the experiences and adventures they have, they both discover who they are as young woman. My character does fall in love, but I must include here that this film was never intended to have extended risqué scenes and all our contracts had very specific clauses stating that in the editing the risqué shots would not be allowed in the film. What needs to be made known is that the film was never completed with the original actors, the director also quit half way through because producers never paid him his weekly fee, and our voices were dubbed with badly trained actors. The Indian crew members also quit because the producers failed to pay them too. So the people in charge edited the unfinished film with the few already completed scenes they had so far with an inexperienced editor, and turned the film into a 'make no sense' piece of trash. The producers then released the film and declared bankruptcy right after. None of the actors were paid. It is very sad for us all as we now have a distasteful badly edited film out in public and we can't get our names removed. We are in the middle of a lawsuit. I mean, who does this kind of thing and then gets away with it? So, I did not choose to do a film with risqué scenes, it was unfortunately edited that way in India against my will and what I had put in my contract.

6. You have done shoots in Maxim, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit, Cosmopolitan. How did they differ from each other? And which one did you have the most fun doing?

I started out as a model from the age of 14 and over the years I have shot for some of the worlds sexiest men's magazines, I am very comfortable with my body. Cosmo, Marie Claire and Elle are all womans magazines, they focus on beauty and inner strength. I love doing both.

7. Have you ever been to Comic-Con before? And if not do you plan on attending soon?

I was asked to be there last year for the release of Lost Boys and Death Race and then again for Femme Fatales, but I was in the midst of shooting a film and could not leave. This year I will definitely be attending.

Recent MIT grad Matt Franklin (Topher Grace) should be working for a Fortune 500 company and starting his upward climb to full-fledged yuppie-hood. Instead, the directionless 23-year-old confounds family and friends by taking a part-time job behind the counter of a video store at the Sherman Oaks Galleria.
But Matt’s silent protest against maturity comes to a screeching halt once his unrequited high school crush, Tori Frederking (Teresa Palmer), walks into the store. When she invites him to an epic, end-of-summer party, Matt thinks he finally might have a chance with the girl of his dreams. With his cynical twin sister Wendy (Anna Faris) and best friend Barry (Dan Fogler), Matt embarks on a once-in-a-lifetime evening.
