BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Henry Cavill To Reprise Superman In Upcoming DC Films

In the last couple of years, there has been much speculation about Henry Cavill 's future – or lack of it – in Warner Bros.' DC movies as Superman. Cavill himself has dropped hints that he's sticking around, and now that's being backed up by a report from Deadline that says he's in talks to return to the suit. But before you get your hopes up for a Man Of Steel sequel, that's apparently not the plan. Nope, if the deal does go through Cavill would apparently pop up in future movies rather than another stand-alone, at least for now. As the site mentions, Wonder Woman 1984 and The Suicide Squad are unlikely candidates, since they've wrapped shooting, and he seems an ill fit for the tone of Matt Reeves' The Batman. So perhaps he'll stop by to see Shazam properly this time? Or show up somehow in Black Adam? There's also a chance this opens the door to another team-up film, though given the reception handed to Justice League (and all of this), tha

Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow) will serve as executive produce

Retro Movie Review: Man Of Steel

This week is DC Universe week over here at Sandwichjohnfilms. In preparation for Justice League hitting theaters this week Zach is going to be reviewing some of the individual Justice League member's films that have lead up to this. First up is Man of Steel. Man of Steel is a 2013 superhero film featuring the DC Comics character Superman. It is a British-American venture produced by Legendary Pictures, DC Entertainment, Syncopy Inc., and Cruel and Unusual Films, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the first installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Zack Snyder, written by David S. Goyer, and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni , and Russell Crowe. Man of Steel is a reboot of the Superman film series that retells the character's origin story. In the film, Clark Kent learns that he is a superpowered alien from the planet Kr

Superman Sequel Is Still Alive

Looks like Superman is alive! Shocking, we know. But though his story seemed to be sidelined in service to building the Justice League, it appears Warner Bros. is still very much committed to giving Henry Cavill's Supes another stand-alone film. The Wrap's sources are telling the site that despite a relative silence over plans to create a Superman-focused sequel to Man Of Steel ( Batman V Superman was originally in development as such, but evolved into the super-slugfest instead), the wheels are very much still in motion. Superman is, apparently, still a high priority for the studio, with talk of getting the character "right", which seems a little late given he's already been in two big movies. Nothing has been said of what this film might entail, or when it might arrive, though amidst all the confirmed titles, there are a couple of unnamed movies lurking on Warners and DC's schedule for October 2018 and November 2019, so perhaps Superman's new a

(EXCLUSIVE): #BatmanvSuperman Takes a Huge Hit

Its second-week slide is one of the largest in history. Story by Matt Cummings Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice witnessed a monumental drop in its second week in theaters, marking it as one of the highest declines ever. At 68% (far higher than the traditional 60%), Warner Bros.' tentpole is starting to look like a misfire. After a strong domestic opening of $166m, the pundits were scratching their heads as to how a film with a "B" CinemaScore and a 29% Rotten Tomatoes rating could rake in that much cash. Additionally, Monday ($33m) and Tuesday ($15m) showed strong numbers, possibly indicating a backlash by audiences who wanted to see it for themselves. But as the week wore on, numbers began to decline rapidly, with Thursday offering just $7.7m. This weekend's decline places it with other not-so-great company, including 2015's Fantastic Four (68.2%) and X-Men: The Last Stand (66.9%) The whole free fall obviously should have WB and the Zack S

(EXCLUSIVE): #BatmanvSuperman Dominates #BoxOffice, But...

...Darkseid might not be this superhero movie's greatest threat after all. Story by Matt Cummings It was a weekend for the box office history books, as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice set several worldwide and domestic records, but slightly under-performed here in the States. Warner Bros on Monday reported that BVSDOJ took in a domestic total of $166m, establishing a new March opening weekend record and the largest Easter opening, besting the $147.1m brought in by Furious 7 last year. It's also the largest opening for a DC Comics film, a record previously held by The Dark Knight Rises ($160.8m). Such a premiere had been a foregone conclusion, based on the extra year Director Zack Snyder took to bring the film to audiences. But with all the celebration at WB's Burbank studios, there's probably a lot of worrying going on. Destroyed by critics (with only a 29% Rotten Tomatoes rating as of this posting) and netting only a "B" CinemaScore,

TV Review: Supergirl "Pilot"

Superman's cousin makes capes fun again. Review by Brandon Wolfe We open on an extremely familiar scene. The planet Krypton is in the final throes of self-destruction and a tearful couple is placing their baby into a small spacecraft with promises of the child’s survival and prosperity on the distant world of Earth. The scene that comes directly after, however, is less familiar. A young girl is also being dispatched into the stars by her parents, with the explicit instructions to guard that baby in the new world. This is Kara Zor-El, the older cousin to this infant, whom our world will come to know as Superman. But Kara’s mission gets a two-decade layover right out of the gate when her pod gets trapped in the Phantom Zone. By the time Kara does make it to Earth, her cousin has already grown into his destiny and he’s the one who shepherds Kara into her new life, setting her up with an adoptive family of trusted scientists. Kara ultimately finds herself immersed in a thankless job

George Miller Rumored to Direct Man of Steel Sequel

Superman's road ahead could be filled with fury. By Brandon Wolfe Warner Bros. has come up with a sure-fire way to get the Internet excited about a sequel to its least-favorite movie of Summer 2013 - hire the director of its favorite movie of Summer 2015. George Miller, the 70-year-old madman who showed Hollywood's young whippersnappers how it's done with this summer's insane Mad Max: Fury Road , is rumored to be taking the reins from Zack Snyder for the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. This word comes from Jon Schnepp, the director of the crowdfunded documentary The Death of 'Superman Lives': What Happened? , who confidently revealed Miller's involvement on the latest episode of his podcast. Through his work on the documentary, Schnepp made many contacts with people in the know about all things Superman, so he is perhaps in a position to know what he's talking about. Plus, Miller was once involved with an earlier version of Justice League in the mid-

Jurassic World On Track For $100 Million Opening

Dino sequel might be summer's only dino-sized opening. By Brandon Wolfe Deadline reports that Universal’s Jurassic World , opening June 12, is tracking for a domestic opening weekend of between $100-130 million, roughly in line with Man of Steel ’s opening gross of $116 million. Awareness for the film is presently in the 90% range, higher than San Andreas , which opens next week. Interestingly enough, though Jurassic is one of the summer’s earlier releases, it could be one of the last films of the summer to gross more than $100 million in its first three days. Only Universal’s other big summer release, Minions , is expected is join that club. Though there are other big films in the pipeline, the Terminator and Mission: Impossible franchises have, historically, not performed to that level straight out of the gate, and Marvel’s Ant-Man isn’t expected to do traditional Marvel-sized business. First Thoughts: 'Supergirl'

We weigh in on CBS' extended trailer. Story by Matt Cummings Ever since we first reported that CBS was developing a Supergirl series for their Fall lineup , our opinion (and that of most of the Internet) has been the same word - uneasiness. The idea wasn't bad and CBS' logic (at the time) seemed sound: bring the next baddest good guy they could find to the screen that wasn't named Superman. But in looking at the extended trailer below - which we announced yesterday - our concerns have moved far beyond uneasiness. See it for yourself, and see if your thoughts align with our own: From the beginning, it's clear that Producer Greg Berlanti ( Arrow , Flash ) is trying to capture the magic of Flash's memorable first season into a bottle he can replicate with any DC hero he desires. But the result looks cheap, melodramatic, and seems to return to many themes already echoed in other DC movies and television episodes. This isn't even the secon
