#CHRISCORNELL RELEASING ORIGINAL SONG FOR #KeepThePromise

MULTIPLE GRAMMY® AWARD WINNING AND GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINEE CHRIS CORNELL RELEASES “THE PROMISE” TODAY

NEW ORIGINAL SONG TO BE FEATURED IN THE FORTHCOMING FILM THE PROMISE STARRING ACADEMY AWARD WINNING ACTOR CHRISTIAN BALE AND GOLDEN GLOBE WINNING ACTOR OSCAR ISAAC DUE FOR RELEASE ON APRIL 21, 2017 BY OPEN ROAD FILMS

CORNELL TO DONATE PROCEEDS TO INTERNATIONAL RESCUE COMMITTEE

Multi-Grammy® Award-winning and Golden Globe nominated singer/songwriter Chris Cornell released a new original song entitled “The Promise” today. Cornell wrote the song for the forthcoming feature film THE PROMISE starring Academy Award winning actor Christian Bale and Golden Globe winning actor Oscar Isaac. THE PROMISE is directed by Terry George and will be released in theatres on April 21, 2017 by Open Road Films. Cornell unveiled a lyric video for the song today which can be seen HERE and the song is now available at all streaming services and digital retailers. Cornell will donate his proceeds from the song to the International Rescue Committee. The International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster.

Cornell’s involvement in THE PROMISE stemmed from his close friendship with the film’s producer, Eric Esrailian. Having married into a Greek family, Cornell had been exposed for years to stories about similar treatment suffered by the Greeks at the hands of the Turkish-ruled Ottoman Empire. "If it’s something you or your family members went through, it’s something you’re faced with confronting on a daily basis,” said Cornell. Immersed in these stories and after further research, he was inspired by the strength and perseverance of those who were affected by these tragic events. Cornell aimed to help tell the story of the film, but also to connect it to the kind of brutality we still face today.

“The film and plot are your band mates and the song has to be true to the story and the characters in it,” he added. “’The Promise’ to me is mainly about paying homage to those we lost in the Armenian Genocide, but it’s also about shining a light on more recent atrocities. The same methods used in the Armenian genocide were used to carry out crimes against humanity in Bosnia, Darfur, Rwanda and right now in Syria on multiple fronts, contributing to a massive global refugee crisis. Unfortunately, the words ‘never again’ seem like just words when we recall these mass executions of the twentieth century, as well as renewed racism and prejudice around the world. Even in the US, the warning signs - isolating groups based on race and religion - are evident. We really need to tell these stories and keep telling them in as many different ways as we can. As humans, we have a tremendous capacity to trudge ahead in our lives and not look at the difficult and challenging moments… but I think it’s important. Educating ourselves on the past is the best way to understand the present and avoid future atrocities by understanding and intervening. We must educate and stand as one to combat this fear and violence, and as citizens of the world, work to protect each other’s human rights.”

Directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Terry George (Hotel Rwanda, Reservation Road, The Shore), THE PROMISE takes place in 1914. As the Great War looms, the mighty Ottoman Empire is crumbling. Constantinople, the once vibrant, multicultural capital on the shores of the Bosporus, is about to be consumed by chaos. Michael Boghosian (Oscar Isaac), arrives in the cosmopolitan hub as a medial student determined to bring modern medicine back to Siroun, his ancestral village in Southern Turkey where Turkish Muslims and Armenian Christians have lived side by side for centuries. Photojournalist Chris Myers (Christian Bale) has come here only partly to cover geo-politics. He is mesmerized by his love for Ana (Charlotte le Bon), an Armenian artist he has accompanied from Paris after the sudden death of her father. When Michael meets Ana, their shared Armenian heritage sparks an attraction that explodes into a romantic rivalry between the two men. As the Turks form an alliance with Germany and the Empire turns violently against its own ethnic minorities, their conflicting passions must be deferred while they join forces to survive even as events threaten to overwhelm them.

About Chris Cornell

Chris Cornell is a modern innovator who transcends genre. He was the chief architect of the 90s grunge movement and remains one of the best voices of all time. Achieving multi-platinum success with three legendary bands - selling over 30 million records worldwide - he has forged his own unique identity over three decades as a Grammy award-winning, Golden Globe nominated singer, songwriter, guitarist, composer and lyricist.

His career began with Seattle trailblazers Soundgarden, whose wild soundscapes combined visceral punk attitude with artistic depth. Powerfully original, they were the first of their generation of Seattle bands to sign to a major label in 1989 and their work continued to evolve over the course of seven groundbreaking albums. Soundgarden made a historic return to the live stage in 2010 and have since toured the world, releasing the all-new studio album, KING ANIMAL, to widespread acclaim.

Cornell has continually redefined his sound and vision. In 1990, side project Temple of the Dog saw him experiment with a more soulful style alongside the future members of Pearl Jam. Later in the decade, his critically acclaimed solo album EUPHORIA MORNING combined lush melody and instrumentation with lyrics which spoke of alienation and despair. And as the millennium turned, he joined with three other musical pioneers from Rage Against the Machine to create supergroup Audioslave. The multi-platinum band released three albums and toured stadiums around the world, becoming the first American rock group to perform a massive free concert in Castro's Cuba. Cornell has also collaborated with many different artists, most recently the Zac Brown Band on their single “Heavy Is The Head”, which peaked at #1 on rock radio in the US.

His soundtrack work has spanned both big budget and independent cinema. He was the first male American artist to write and perform the theme song for a James Bond movie (“You Know My Name” for Casino Royale). He wrote the end title song "Live to Rise" for The Avengers, the third highest grossing film of all time. He duetted with Joy Williams on his song “Misery Chain” which appeared on the soundtrack of the Oscar-winning 12 Years A Slave and his song “The Keeper” from Marc Forster’s Machine Gun Preacher was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2012.

Cornell’s solo acoustic ‘Songbook’ tour attracted sellout crowds and critical acclaim worldwide. Jim Farber of the New York Daily News observed, “sometimes you don't recognize the full power of a voice until you strip everything away from it.” The tour’s reinterpretations of classic Cornell songs are featured on his 2011 live album of the same name.

HIGHER TRUTH, his fifth solo album, reflects an expressive intimacy similar to that of SONGBOOK, while also displaying his evolution and growth as a master craftsman songwriter. Following the album’s release Cornell embarked on a critically acclaimed worldwide sold out tour which was followed by a tour with Temple of The Dog, marking the first time the band has toured since they released their storied and groundbreaking self-titled album over 25 years ago. All dates sold out immediately.

Cornell has also become involved in philanthropy; using music to support causes that help foster change. The Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation is currently raising funds and partnering with charitable organizations to mobilize support for the most vulnerable children facing issues surrounding including homelessness, poverty, abuse and neglect.

Movie Review: #KongSkullIsland

The monster movie universe just got bigger with the inventive but slightly flawed Kong: Skull Island.

Review by Matt Cummings
If anything was proven by the mammoth $652 million which Jurassic World took home in 2015, it was that audiences want their big monster movies in whatever form they can get them. With Kong: Skull Island, they'll see their wish granted, giving us a far better version than Jurassic's bore-fest, even though this one has its fair share of problems.
As the United States begins pulling out of Vietnam, emotions run the gamut, but a team of desperate scientists couldn't care less: they represent Monarch, an agency on its last legs because their crackpot leader Randa (John Goodman) can't find anyone to listen to his claims of monsters inhabiting deep caves under the earth. Luckily, a report by Hudson Brooks (Corey Hawkins) has left one last door open to explore a recently-discovered island that the Soviets might claim if the US doesn't. A team is assembled to escort Monarch, including the jaded soldier Packard (Samuel L. Jackson), the letter-writing father (Toby Kebbell), the award-winning photographer (Brie Larson), and the tracker (Tom Hiddleston). But none of them are prepared for what comes next, as their arrival on the island is met by the giant ape known as Kong, who protects the indigenous population and other exotic beasts from horrible forces that threaten their very existence. After Kong renders them helpless on the island, the team must attempt an escape before their window of opportunity runs out, and their lives become forfeit.

From the moment Kong: Skull Island appears, we know this is connected to 2014's Godzilla, both in feel and history: the credits are nearly identical, with those grainy 40's/50's photos and video showing large pieces torn out of ships and nuclear "tests" which weren't tests at all. The theme - that man isn't the top dog on Earth - is also ported over to Kong, as is the idea of Kong playing the role of hunter and protector. Warner Bros isn't just mailing in an exact copy of Godzilla, because its plot is quite different than what you might remember from other versions. There is no longer a damsel in distress, and the story is much more horror-centered than you might expect. We get several nice jump scenes - complete with that uncomfortable silence before a huge island beast swats at you or nose dives for its lunch - and a genuine sense that no actor here is indispensable. That creates moments of genuine dread and thus a more effective story. Another reason why audiences will be reminded of Jurassic centers around the imaginative beasts that the team encounters, from giant water buffaloes with grass growing on their backs, to a huge squid and several thoroughly nasty Velociraptors. It's frankly some of the best parts of the movie, and an indication that this universe is about to get a lot bigger and perhaps nastier.

In fact, Kong: Skull Island is just the warm up to a massive monster universe that's just getting started. Given the fantastic end credits scene, that is happening sooner rather than later; but you'll have to see that for yourself. That will either make your eyes roll or force a shout of glee but no matter what side you stand on, you'll love Kong himself. The idea that his role as top dog (or ape) of Skull Island makes for some interesting decision-making by Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and Writer Dan Gilroy, Max Borenstein, and Derek Connolly. Why Kong favors the humans trapped on the island and protects other beasts instead of eating them isn't well thought out. Nor is the decision wise to cast a wide range of stars instead of featuring a younger Dr. Serizawa from Godzilla as a sort of passenger between this world and Kong. That would have made a lot of what Ken Watanabe's character did make a ton more sense in Godzilla. Hollywood, I await your phone call to fix Justice League and anything else you wish.

But Vogt shoots a mighty impressive image, placing Kong in some of the most iconic scenes we've seen in awhile. From slow-mo helicopters centering for an attack against him, to a marvelous stare-down between him and Jackson, we get the true sense of Kong's scale. The other CGI beasts are also impressive, as is the location shooting which apparently happened in Vietnam itself. Vogt has so many pins to juggle here - the setting up of Monarch, the battles between military and science, and Kong himself - that it would have been easy for this one to get out of hand. And for a few minutes near the beginning, it feels like pouring maple syrup from a nearly empty bottle. But once it starts moving, things pick up, as does the body count. And that's perhaps the best part of Kong: Skull Island: it doesn't care what you think, content to succeed as a B-movie island escape flick that doubles down on the beasts and makes the humans as tasty morsels leading to the big meal.

Still, this is one of the best casts of 2017, and they do not disappoint. Goodman plays the conspiracy theorist to a tee, burying the truth about Kong from Packard which leads to some really great scenes between the two. Jackson's Packard is looking for a war to win, and that plays very well through. Larson is earthy great, effortlessly gliding along and showing us why she will be so good as Captain Marvel; Hiddleston is a bit underused, his silky-smooth voice never really matching his role as a tracker. But the real joy here is John C. Reilly, playing a WWII pilot who crash-landed on Skull Island 28 years before and has grown a significant beard. He's only anti-social weird instead of someone who should have lost most of his marbles, but it's his humanity and reverence to Kong which is most gratifying. When it comes time for a bit of levity or a dose of reality, Reilly's Hank is right there to lend it. Add Corey Hawkins, John Ortiz, and Shea Whigham to the mix, and you have to wonder how long was the original cut of Kong. They serve as pleasant distractions instead of meaningful participants, but it's great to see them here.

Kong: Skull Island is a lot better than Jurassic World, both in terms of scale and smarts. Its CGI is more than up to the task for its gargantuan beast, and its sense of style doesn't really care what you think of it. The fact that a big blockbuster flick like this can stand up and say that just goes to show you how much faith WB has in this universe and how dedicated they are to making it work. Probably none of that will help its bottom line, but at least it has the guts to make so much effort to try (that end credits scene is so cool). Love it or not, the big monster universe is coming, and I for one am excited to see what WB has in store.

Kong: Skull Island is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for brief strong language and has a runtime of 118 minutes.

Zazie Beets Cast As Domino In Deadpool Sequel

THR is reporting Atlanta break-out Zazie Beets will play Domino in the upcoming Deadpool sequel.

Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds, made the announcement via Twitter, with the caption "domino effect".

In Marvel's comic book mythology, Domino is a mercenary who mostly works on the side of the good guys. Debuting in the same issue as Deadpool himself (1991's New Mutants No. 98), she is another survivor of a government program to create the ultimate soldier. Instead of adamantium claws or hyper-active healing powers, she can affect probability itself, creating "good luck" for herself and those around her — something she's put to use serving alongside Cable, another fan-favorite X-character who'll be showing up in the new movie, but has yet to be cast.

Producers were looking to specifically cast a black or latina actress in the role of Domino, testing a variety of actresses but have appeared to land on Beetz.

Deadpool 2 will be directed by John Wick filmmaker David Leitch, with original Deadpool scripters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returning the pen the follow-up for Fox, along with The Martian writer Drew Goddard. Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner and Reynolds are set to produce.

After its February 2016 release, Deadpool became a run-away hit (and a surprise awards contender), grossing more than $780 million at the global box office, prompting the studio to expedite production on a sequel.

Beets plays Van in the Donald Glover's award-winning FX series, where she has emerged as a fan favorite. She will soon be seen in Chance the Rapper's horror-comedy Slice.

#CARS3 Adds New Rides Voiced By @kerrywashington @NathanFillion & More

Kerry Washington, Nathan Fillion, Lea DeLaria and Lewis Hamilton Join Franchise Favorites on the Big Screen

Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 3” reveals key voice cast and characters, featuring award-winning stars. According to director Brian Fee, the roster includes both new and returning characters. “We’re introducing some fun and really appealing characters in ‘Cars 3,’” said Fee, “so we really wanted to find the right voices to help us breathe life into them. We hit a homerun with this group; I couldn’t be happier.”

See all the images after the Jump...

Following are the newcomers and “Cars” franchise veterans who join the previously announced voice talent and characters: Owen Wilson as world champion racer Lightning McQueen, Cristela Alonzo as unconventional trainer Cruz Ramirez, and Armie Hammer as sleek next-gen racer Jackson Storm.

NEWCOMERS

· Kerry Washington (ABC’s “Scandal,” HBO’s “Confirmation”) lends her voice to Natalie Certain, a highly respected statistical analyst who knows her numbers. Book-smart and mathematically gifted, Certain may earn top marks in her ability to evaluate a racer’s stats, but she could be underestimating the importance of determination.

· Nathan Fillion (ABC’s “Castle,” ABC’s “Modern Family”) voices Sterling, a brilliant businesscar who runs Rust-eze Racing Center—one of the most successful elite training facilities in the country. The always dapper Sterling comes across as unassuming and laid back, but business is business, and Sterling is driven to ensure all of his investments pay off.

· Lea DeLaria (Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black”) provides the voice of Miss Fritter, a local legend at the Thunder Hollow Speedway demolition derby. Fritter’s formidable school-bus size is intimidating, but it’s her smoke stacks of doom, razor-sharp stop sign and crazy collection of her victims’ license plates that usually steers her opponents in the other direction.

LANE CHANGE
Three-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton was called on to voice Hamilton, a fully loaded, built-in voice command assistant to high-tech trainer Cruz Ramirez. When Lightning McQueen takes his training off road, Cruz enlists Hamilton’s help to keep the struggling racer on track.

RETURNING FAVORITES
“Cars 3” also welcomes the gang from Radiator Springs back to the big screen, including Lightning McQueen’s best buddy Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy), and #95’s No. 1 fan Sally (voice of Bonnie Hunt). Friends supporting their hometown hero include Fillmore (voice of Lloyd Sherr), Sarge (voice of Paul Dooley), Lizzie (voice of Katherine Helmond), Ramon (voice of Cheech Marin), Sheriff (voice of Michael Wallis) and Flo (voice of Jenifer Lewis).

Loyal transporter Mack (voice of John Ratzenberger), big-hearted Italian Fiat 500 Luigi (voice of Tony Shalhoub) and charming little Italian forklift Guido (voice of Guido Quaroni) continue to support Lightning McQueen’s racing endeavors. World-renowned sports announcer Bob Cutlass (voice of Bob Costas) is still calling the races, and Chick Hicks (voice of Bob Peterson) is back—this time as a commentator on the Racing Sports Network. The lovable duo Dusty (voice of Ray Magliozzi) and Rusty (voice of Tom Magliozzi) return as Rust-eze’s chief proprietors—though they have big things in store for Lightning McQueen.

ABOUT THE MOVIE
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez (voice of Cristela Alonzo), with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage! Directed by Brian Fee (storyboard artist “Cars,” “Cars 2”), produced by Kevin Reher (“A Bug’s Life,” “La Luna” short) and co-produced by Andrea Warren (“LAVA” short), “Cars 3” cruises into theaters on June 16, 2017.

Joe Carnahan Leaves Bad Boys 3

THR is reporting Bad Boys 3, a.k.a. Bad Boys for Life, has lost director Joe Carnahan.

The helmer has left due to scheduling conflicts, but other sources say it was the dreaded "creative differences."

The move is a setback for the project, which has been trying, in fits and stops, to get going after years of development. The involvement of Will Smith had forever been a question mark, but the actor finally committed and Sony, after shifting several times, had recently set a Nov. 8, 2018, release date. A start date in the fall was being eyed.

Carnahan wasn’t just the director for Bad Boys 3, but had also written the most recent draft of the script. Sources say a director search is already underway and a new writer may be hired as well. The project is a hot ticket because it is considered a go movie.

The project seeks to reteam Smith and Martin Lawrence as Miami detectives who leave a trail of mayhem in their wake as they take down bad guys. The first two installments, released in 1995 and 2003, were directed by Michael Bay.

Carnahan won’t be gathering moss, however. The director, whose recent work has been on TV shows such as The Blacklist and Katherine Heigl’s State of Affairs, is actively developing an English-language remake of Indonesian action movie The Raid and wrote the script for the recently wrapped remake of Death Wish, which was directed by Eli Roth and stars Bruce Willis.

First Look At Thor: Ragnarok

EW scored the first look from the upcoming film Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Hunt For The Wilderpeople's Taika Waititi, finds our hero in even more galactic trouble than usual. Blanchett's Hela, the Goddess Of Death, is accidentally released from prison and intends to cause more chaos than even Begbie from Trainspotting's sequel. Or, say, Tom Hiddleston's Loki, who is still up to his own tricks. She sends Thor to a desolate planet called Sakaar, where he'll face fresh challenges. "It's basically where every wormhole across the universe dumps out its trash, so you get people from all walks of life with all sorts of incredible abilities and powers,” Hemsworth tells EW. "No one cares what prince or king Thor may have been in another world. Also, his strength is pretty easily matched with those he finds himself amongst." And the creatures he'll have to battle in this new world's gladiatorial arena include a familiar face. Turns out Mark Ruffalo's Hulk has ended up here and is Sakaar's most successful – and popular – fighter.

Movie Review: The Girl

No reason for Biehn.

Review by Brandon Wolfe

From his rightly venerated run as James Cameron’s early-career go-to guy, it always seemed like Michael Biehn got cheated out of greater stardom. While not exactly a charismatic actor, he was always highly reliable as no-guff man’s man. He almost always played military men, which always suited him well, but his breakthrough role as Kyle Reese in the original Terminator showed that Biehn could bring more to a character than gritted-teeth exposition delivery. I’m not suggesting that he deserved to ascend to the A-List, but neither did he deserve to flame out in the ‘90s as much as he did.

Now Biehn has become something of a self-made man. He and his wife, producer Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, have created their own production company and now their own films. Their latest endeavor, the no-budget horror oddity The Girl, was filmed in 2014, yet is only finding release now. Give Biehn some credit for creating his own work instead of waiting for the phone to ring, but if this is indicative of the work we can expect from him, maybe fading away would be preferable.

The Girl opens like an artifact of the post-Saw torture-porn craze of the mid-‘00s, with Biehn’s serial killer snuffing out a scared young girl before an opening-credits montage shows that this is a regular practice for him. The killer, credited only as Father, takes his latest victim (Evie Thompson) to the barn behind his rural home, where he lives with his shiftless, home-shopping-obsessed wife (Tia Carrere) and their son Tommy (Tristan DeVan), both of whom are oblivious to dad’s extracurricular activities. Tommy, ever curious, starts to poke around the barn and discovers the girl bound and gagged. He brings her food and they become close. The girl (whose name is never given) frequently has psychic flashes of dad’s previous victims, and also seems to wield some form of telekinesis, though she doesn’t seem to be entirely in control of it.

The Girl fashions itself as a horror film early on, but truth be told, it doesn’t really know what the hell it wants to be. Worse, it fails at everything it tries to be. It’s never scary. When it fishes for the heart within the bond between the girl and Tommy, it comes up with nothing (and nothing about their interactions passes the smell test of plausible behavior). Its attempts at consumer satire don’t land. Most egregious is the sudden shift into supernatural territory it takes at the eleventh hour, which is hilarious in how arbitrary and unearned it is. It’s a failure from top to bottom.

The single most jarring thing about the film, however, is how horrifically acted it is. The younger actors can be given something of a pass due to their inexperience, but how on earth are Biehn and Carrere this terrible? Even taking into account how ineptly developed these characters are, it’s staggering how pitiful these performances shake out to be. Carrere, who did solid work in the Wayne’s World films and True Lies (this film is lousy with Cameron alums, in every sense of the word), flails about ineffectually, seemingly incapable of producing either a believable reaction or a decent line reading. And Biehn is simply embarrassing here, playing a sputteringly profane nerd. These people have been in the business far too long to be locked into amateur hour at this late stage.

The Girl is a half-formed, wildly incompetent, dirt-cheap heap of nothing. Never is it clear what this movie is attempting to do or say or be. I used to think Cameron ought to help a brother out and throw Biehn a part in an Avatar sequel, but no longer. The only thing that would achieve would be to make Sam Worthington look mighty good.

Hollywood just can't get enough of Robin Hood. Not content with several self-described "new" spins on the character in development, and Taron Egerton donning the Lincoln Green for one movie in production, yet another is joining the fray, with a big name attached: Margot Robbie is aiming to star in Marian.

Pete Barry wrote the spec script which, as you might be able to figure out from the title, focuses on the woman usually known as Maid Marian. Far from being the love interest in this one, Marian is being described as a cross between Game Of Thrones and Braveheart, though the description makes it sound more of a piece with the Joan Of Arc story. The concept is this: after Marian sees Robin killed before her eyes, she swears to pick up his cause. Training to become a fighter, she also rises to a position of leadership and eventually legend as she commands the fight against a conspiracy to conquer England. Robbie could certainly do this one justice, and it would give her something new to play. The big question is how – beyond the basic hook – it separates itself from the 500 other Hood projects out there.

Producers Donald De Line and Amy Pascal have picked this one up for Sony, and we can expect the studio to push this one into development quickly, likely leaping over the other Robin project it had percolating.

Robbie, who has also started to produce some of her films, has a few movies on the way, including the still-untitled A.A. Milne biopic, new thriller Terminal, I, Tonya and Peter Rabbit.
