BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Aaron Johnson Eyed For Godzilla

Legendary Pictures is eyeing Kick-Ass star Aaron-Taylor Johnson to star in Godzilla , the Gareth Edwards-directed reboot of the franchise based on the iconic Japanese reptile. I’m told that Johnson, who starred in the Oliver Stone-directed Savages and Anna Karenina and followed by reprising in Kick-Ass 2: Balls To The Wall is the frontrunner for the job. He won’t make a final decision on whether or not to take the offer until he sees the final polish that Frank Darabont is writing based on the Max Borenstein script. Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are taking the creative lead on this project — they just put Mary Parent on after she became a producer of Pacific Rim — and Warner Bros is distributing everywhere except for Japan. There, rightsholders Toho will handle the release. While there has obviously been a legal dust-up in the producing ranks, the film is still on course to begin production in March, with the film dated for a May 16, 2014 release. If he takes the gig

Mark Millar Confirms Kick-Ass 2 & American Jesus

The sequel to the critically acclaimed comic book drama Kick-Ass will be shot this summer, writer Mark Millar has revealed. Millar, who penned the comic books from which Kick-Ass and its sequel are adapted, has told the Daily Record that both the second Kick Ass film and his new project American Jesus will be shot this summer, telling the paper: "We shoot Kick-Ass 2 and American Jesus this summer". There had been some doubt as to whether a second Kick-Ass film would happen at all after both writer Jane Goldman and director Matthew Vaughn ruled themselves out of the project. However, it appears a new writer and director have been found for the project. Millar also spoke about his new project American Jesus, which he has described as "the reverse of the Omen". That will also be shot this summer. Millar said of this: "It is the reverse of the Omen, which is about a kid who finds out he is the anti-Christ. This is a kid who finds out he is Jesus Chr

Matthew Vaughn To Deliver "The Golden Age"

Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class writer/director/producer Matthew Vaughn tells me that a major Hollywood studio is very keen to fully fund his next big project: The Golden Age about a retirement home where superheroes end up. And the title is also a reference to early comic books of the 1930s when Superman and Batman first appeared. It's based on the yet-to-be-published comic book written by Brit TV chat show host Jonathan Ross, who’s a huge comics buff. Vaughn is currently in LA editing X-Men: First Class for Fox, but tells me he wants to get actors attached to the new project before the script is written. His wish list is Clint Eastwood, Jack Nicholson, and Warren Beatty to play the retired superheroes who help out their grandchildren when their middle-aged parent screw up the world. Vaughn believes the success of The Expendables and Red shows that audiences are open to the idea of older action heroes. “You have these great star names and they’re mainly playing supportin

Chloe Moretz Emily the Strange Film

Chloe Moretz To Star In Emily the Strange Chloe Moretz , who gained fame as Hit-Girl in " Kick-Ass " and next stars in " Let Me In ," will star as the title character in Universal's adaptation of counterculture icon " Emily the Strange ." Universal just acquired the rights to character, created by skateboarder Rob Reger among a multitude of designs he was printing up for stickers, T-shirts and skateboards in Santa Cruz in the early 1990s. The Emily design took off, with Reger's company, Cosmic Debris, going on to become a multimillion-dollar business with toeholds in fashion, books and comics, toys, school supplies and accessories. Dark Horse Entertainment has been developing the character as a movie project since 2008. Because we have an exclusive sneak peek at "Kick-Ass 2" (the comic), courtesy of Millar's new monthly magazine debuting this week, “ CLiNT .” “ Kick-Ass 2 ” follows immediately after ‘ Kick-Ass ,’”  “You see how Dave has inspired people to become amateur superheroes, Red Mist has inspired people in the sequel to become amateur supervillains. So what we have is two rival gangs of super characters getting together in New York.” And what about the sequel to the mega-successful film adaptation of the comic starring Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz ? To paraphrase the Red Mist, wait 'til they get a load of this! “We go straight into what’s happened with Dave and Hit-Girl as well, picking up from where they left off in the last story. Hit-Girl

Hollywood Killing Superhero Movies? Vaughn Thinks So

Hollywood Killing Superhero Movies? Vaughn Thinks So The clock is ticking on the superhero craze in Hollywood, according to Matthew Vaughn , the director now filming "X-Men: First Class" for Fox in London. "It's been mined to death and in some cases the quality control is not what it's supposed to be," Vaughn said. "People are just going to get bored of it." Vaughn, who produced, directed and co-wrote " Kick-Ass ," says he pounced on the chance to make a film about the uncanny mutants from Marvel Comics because he expects the current boom in superhero cinema to fizzle out in the near future. "I've always wanted to do a big-budget superhero film and I think we've kind of crossed the Rubicon with superhero films," Vaughn said. "I think [the opportunity to do one], it's only going to be there two or three more times." "Then," he added, "the genre is going to be dead for a while because

Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall Plot Details

Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall Plot Details Kick-Ass is set to hit DVD and Blu-ray on August 3rd.  Mark Millar stopped by movieweb for a chat. While discussing the film, he told us in detail where Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is headed. Spoiler Alert: Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall begins with Hit Girl living with her newly adoptive father, who used to be Big Daddy's ex-partner on the police force. She has retired her guns and is no longer killing people. Meanwhile, Red Mist has hired a Russian Assassin to murder Hit Girl, while also assembling a group of super villains on-line who decide to hunt Kick-Ass down in a storyline that is similar to the one seen in The Warriors, which climaxes with a huge rumble in Times Square, where costumed heroes battle costumed villains to the death. Here is our conversation: There has been a lot of talk about Kick-Ass 2 . What is happening with that? And where would you like to see it go? Mark Millar: I am writing the comic book right now

"Kick-Ass" Kicks Ass - A Review by Windy

"Kick-Ass" Kicks Ass Review by Windy Windy reviews “Kick-Ass”.  Take a swing by her website and check out what she’s been up to lately. “Kick-Ass” Kicks Ass “Kick-Ass”, directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Aaron Johnson (“Kick-Ass”), Chloe Moretz (“Hit-Girl”), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (“Red Mist”), Nicholas Cage (“Big Daddy”) and Mark Strong (Frank D’Amico), truly does kick ass. “Kick-Ass” has a somewhat similar formula to films such as “Date Movie”, “Epic Movie” and “Dance Movie”, but follows a story of its own with a distinct plot and is more successful at engaging the audience.  There are plenty of odes to other superhero movies including “Superman” (soundtrack), “Spiderman” (dialogue), “Batman” (costume) and “The Matrix” (action sequences).  There are even some similarities to “Superbad”, aside from having Christopher Mintz-Plasse in the film.  However, “Kick-Ass” succeeds where the other formula movies fail. Aaron Johnson stars as the typical high school nobody

Kick-Ass 2 "Balls To The Wall" In 2012?

Kick-Ass 2 "Balls To The Wall" In 2012? Looks like me might be getting a sequel to Kick-Ass. After a very disappointing performance at the box office so far. ($40 Million so far and the film cost 30 million to make) Has the movie warranted a sequel? I say HELL yes! Mark talked to Forces of Geek in which he was promoting his new UK Geek Magazine CLiNT. Here is a little description he gives on the magazine: I’ve worked on everything from Spider-Man comics to the Iron Man movie for Marvel in New York, but what really excites me is the gap I see in the UK market at the moment. There are absolutely no comic-books aimed at 16-30 year old guys and I think CLiNT has potential to make an enormous impact, bringing a new type of magazine to a new generation. I want this to be edgy and irreverent, the kind of thing guys will be passing around lunch-halls and common rooms, and there’s nobody I’d rather have creating new characters for CLiNT than Jonathan and Frankie. They’re both

Kick-Ass Movie Review By: Sandwichjohn

Kick-Ass Movie Review By: Sandwichjohn Sorry Late but you know the real world doesn't always leave a lot of time for sitting down to write a review. Kick Ass unfortunately didn't kick ass in the box office but we here at Sandwichjohnfilms definitely thought it kicked bottom, as my 4 year old says. We were very excited for this movie every since we show the first clips which were released, then more so after watching the panel at WonderCon and we were not disappointed. Kick Ass stars Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski, an average high school kid that decides to become a super hero. He hits a few road blocks along the way but becomes a You Tube hit as the super hero Kick Ass. Kick Ass also stars Nicholas Cage as Damon Macready, a former cop who was framed by the local crime boss Frank D'Amico and spent time in prison. Upon his release he trains his 11 year daughter Mindy (Chloë Moretz) to help him fight crime in his quest to bring down D'Amico. Together they form the

Kick-Ass Slays The "Dragon"

Kick-Ass Slays The "Dragon" As of Sunday night I was pretty nervous that Kick-Ass lost the number one spot to "How to Train Your Dragon".  It looks like it was a close race but Kick-Ass ended up on top.  Not taking anything away from Dragon, which was a great film. If you haven't seen the movie you need to make a trip out to the theaters and spread the word. I am really hoping that word of mouth about this film will give this movie legs with all the new films coming out. Despite preliminary reports, "Kick-Ass" took home the top spot at the domestic box office. Grossing $19.8 million, Lionsgate's superhero action pic edged DreamWorks Animation's 3D kid pic, "How to Train Your Dragon" ($19.6 million) in a closely contested race. Big Daddy Kicks-Ass In This Trailer And Wonder Con Exclusive

Big Daddy Kicks-Ass In This Trailer And Wonder Con Exclusive Man I can not stop watching this trailer, I thought to myself for a minute.  Who in the heck needs Batman when you have Big Daddy. Big Daddy is the center of this clip, showing what a bad ass he is and how he completely destroys the whole warehouse without a blink of an eye. Big Daddy, a former cop who, in his quest to bring down an evil druglord Frank D'Amico played by Mark Strong, has trained his eleven-year-old daughter to be the ruthless vigilante Hit-Girl. But the con-exclusive poster for Big Daddy, with its slogan of "He's Watching You," is pretty creepy, and calls out for a "Ceiling Cat"-style meme. Yeah, that's right, Nicolas Cage is watching you, um, doing whatever you're doing. And he'll be available to sign the poster on Saturday. Another thing if you are making your way out to Wonder Con this weekend make sure to come and join me at 4:30 for the Kick-Ass panel i
