BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Toy Story 4 Has Found It's Director

Amid a torrent of announcements at today’s D23 animation panel, we learned that John Lasseter will not be directing 2019's Toy Story 4 , as previously thought, passing the reins to Josh Cooley instead. Following in the footsteps of Lee Unkrich , who took over from Lasseter on Toy Story 3 , Cooley will lead Buzz, Woody and the gang on their fourth outing, having come a long way from his days as a Pixar intern on the first Cars film, before stepping up to become a writer on inside Out . Taking to the stage, Cooley teed up a short teaser film of him wandering the Pixar offices and talking to many of the artists and designers involved in the film. As the film palyed out, we briefly glimpsed a new toy that looked a lot like a Hawaiian doll, called Lulu and early pre-vis of a toy chick. In other Pixar news, Lasseter announced an as-yet untitled new project to be directed by Monsters University’s Dan Scanlon. Set in a suburban fantasy world populated by elves, trolls and sprit

(EXCLUSIVE): 2015 #BoxOffice Sets New All-Time Record

The number was actually a tad below expectations. Story by Matt Cummings The 2015 box office results are in, and some Hollywood studios are singing all the way to the bank. The overall domestic number hit a new record with just over $11b, beating 2013's $10.93b. That's a little lower than expected, mainly due to several high-profile disasters including Fantastic Four , Pixels , and Terminator: Genysis . This is the first time that the North American box office has surpassed $11b. For those of you who think such numbers are bloated due to the high cost of today's tickets, consider another number: attendance at NA theaters surpassed 1.33 billion moviegoers. That's 5% higher than 2014's 1.27b. But early on, things didn't look so good, even though everyone was expecting top numbers as far back as 2013. The first quarter (January through March) staggered to just $18.87b billion, which only ranked in the middle of the past 10 years. But it was Q2

#BoxOffice Report: 'Ant-Man' Wins Tiny Weekend; 'Trainwreck' Surprises

Even an original Avenger can't bring home the ants. Story by Matt Cummings Marvel Studios can breathe a sigh of relief (sort of), as their record of 11 consecutive #1 openings remains intact. But while Ant-Man won the weekend with an estimated $57.23 million, the box office celebration is sure to be short. That's because early hopes of $65m fell as Friday turned to Saturday, led by 'seen that before in Iron Man ' comments. By the time it was done, the Paul Rudd heist comedy had barely beaten 2008's The Incredible Hulk , which holds the lowest opening among the 12 Marvel Studios films at $55.41m. Coming in at number 2 was Minions , which took it on the chin, plunging 57% to $49.27m. And that number was boosted by a ridiculous 4,300 theater count, which means it could have slid even further had it gotten the typical 3,100 treatment. The highly-anticipated Universal/Illumination Entertainment spin-off suffered from both poor reviews and perhaps la

#BoxOffice Report: Machines, Strippers Fall, 'Inside' Outperforms

Post-apocalyptic machines and strippers lose out in July 4th Weekend bust. Story by Matt Cummings Early numbers are coming in from this week's domestic box office, and it doesn't look good for two movies with high expectations from their studios. It appears that Pixar's Inside Out will finally take the number 1 slot from three-peater Jurassic World , leaving Terminator Genisys and Magic Mike XXL in the dust. With hgh praise from critics and even talk of whether it deserves an Oscar nod for Best Picture, the movie about a little girl's emotions will take in an estimated $30 million over the three-day weekend. It's already made over $225m and on Friday seemed ready to exert its influence over Mike and Terminator . Coming in at a close number 2 is Jurassic World , which should take in $28-29m. Considering its staying power, there's no reason why a last-minute surge could see the two slip-flop, attesting to the popularity of both. That leaves

Movie Review: 'Inside Out'

Pixar's Inside Out doesn't use its inside voice as well as it could. Review by Matt Cummings WARNING: Spoilers ahead In Pixar's 15th animated film Inside Out , the 11-year-old Riley (voiced by Kaitlyn Dias) has moved from the idyllic Minnesota to San Francisco with her parents (Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan). Riley is intelligent, loves ice hockey, and has strong friendships, all managed by a team of emotions in her head that store core memories and fuel five theme parks in her mind. The lighthearted Joy (Amy Poehler) is the dominant emotion, striving to make sure Riley stays happy, while Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), and Disgust (Mindy Kaling) keep her safe and on guard. After the black sheep of the group Sadness (Phyllis Smith) accidentally poisons Riley's core memories, Joy and Sadness are transported to the far reaches of Riley's mind, forcing the two to make the long trek back. But they need to hurry: without Riley's core memori

You're at a movie. Your phone buzzes. The voice of temptation inside your head is telling you that you must read that text!
