BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Soundtrack Review: #StarTrekBeyond Deluxe Edition

Star Trek Beyond - Music from the Motion Picture: The Deluxe Edition does even less with its expanded listing. Review by Matt Cummings If you missed the pleasantly surprising Star Trek Beyond , its arrival in November onto home video offers you a chance to make up for your lack of logic. It's one of the only bright spots in an otherwise pretty awful Summer slate. And while we loved the movie (read our review HERE), we were less than happy with its score, which we originally reviewed after its July 29th release. Now, Composer Michael Giachhino has released a Deluxe Edition , more than doubling the original tracklist. Unfortunately, it does nothing to change our minds, suffering from a pedestrian sound that borrows too much from other Trek movies. Three-plus years into their five-year mission, the crew of the USS Enterprise boldly explores the final frontier, while their Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) secretly harbors personal doubt. His approaching birthday w

Top 10 Movies of 2016

2016's top films feature a diversity of genres, but was the industry better off as a result? Story by Matt Cummings I think it's safe to say that 2016 was one of the worst years in recent memory: shootings, rising tensions abroad, and (another) highly-divisive election was book-ended by high-profile deaths that began their march in January (David Bowie), ripped through the Summer (Prince), and ended with an awful December (George Michael, Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds). Similarly, we saw a movie industry plagued with more than a dozen high-profile failures and outright disappointments ( Independence Day: Resurgence, Alice Through the Looking Glass, Norm of the North, The Fifth Wave among many, many others). But, a few films did rise to the top, punctuated by stellar performances, incredible action sequences, smart comedy, and beautiful musical moments. As always, our list is generated on factors such as memorability, quality, and a completely selfish desire of whet

Justin Lin To Direct "Hot Wheels" Movie

According to THR Justin Lin is revving up Hot Wheels . The Star Trek Beyond filmmaker has closed a deal to develop, direct and produce, via his Perfect Storm Entertainment, a feature based on popular car toyline from Mattel. Lin and Perfect Storm will also have an option to co-finance the project. A Hot Wheels movie has been made, despite iterations being in development since 2003. McG was at one point attached to direct and produce for Columbia before it landed in the garage of Joel Silver and Warners. Legendary picked up the rights in earlier this decade. Simon Crane came on board to direct it in 2013 but the project has been sitting idle since 2014. Lin’s boarding injects some nitrous oxide into the project; Lin, his partner Troy Craig Poon, and Legendary will begin a search for a writer to take Hot Wheels back to the starting line. The project is in the early development stages and will not be Lin’s next movie. Hot Wheels is one of the world’s biggest toy brands, with

Soundtrack Review: #StarTrekBeyond

Star Trek - Music from the Motion Picture is lost in deep space. Review by Matt Cummings Star Trek Beyond has done a good job winning over critics and fans, who wondered what we would get from the 50th anniversary of the beloved series. And while its excellent cast and positive story of unity are a few reasons for its box office success, the pedestrian Music from the Motion Picture doesn't stand out as another reason why. Three-plus years into their five-year mission, the crew of the USS Enterprise boldly explores the final frontier, while their Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) secretly harbors personal doubt. His approaching birthday will see him live longer than his father (who died aboard the USS Kelvin in the 2009 reboot), and thus Kirk is entertaining a promotion and desk job at the Yorktown space station. His science officer Spock (Zachary Quinto) is also wondering if his future lies in helping to repopulate New Vulcan. But when The Enterprise is vicious

Movie Review: #StarTrekBeyond

Star Trek Beyond deftly warps us to the final frontier. Review by Matt Cummings Just over one year ago, the Star Trek film franchise was in big trouble. Having endured deserved criticism for 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness , fans learned that significant changes were happening behind the camera, as Robert Orci was unceremoniously dropped from the upcoming sequel. Fans worried that the 50th Anniversary of the franchise could be marred in mediocrity (see James Bond's SPECTRE ), as word soon arrived that Paramount desired to make something "less Star Trek-y." Fortunately, Star Trek Beyond should alleviate most people's worries, as it deftly packages many classic Trek themes into an agreeable space adventure. Three-plus years into their five-year mission, the crew of the USS Enterprise boldly explores the final frontier, while their Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) secretly harbors personal doubt. His approaching birthday will see him live longer th
