Is Clint Eastwood Returning to Acting?

While Clint Eastwood was expected to follow directing J Edgar by directing A Star Is Born with Beyonce, her pregnancy has put that project off. Instead, I hear he’s seriously looking at starring in Trouble With The Curve, a project at Warner Bros that will mark the feature directorial debut of his Malpaso partner Robert Lorenz. The Randy Brown-scripted film is about an aging baseball scout, who’s losing his sight, and heads on a last road trip to Atlanta with his daughter to scout a hotshot prospect. They will lock Eastwood and Lorenz’s deals before setting an actress to play the daughter. Malpaso will produce.

Aside from being Eastwood’s longtime business partner, Lorenz has been assistant director on many of Eastwood’s films, including Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River and Blood Work.

Johnny Depp As Dr. Seuss. Are You A Believer?

Oh, the places he'll go! It's almost too perfect: Johnny Depp as Dr. Seuss.

Illumination Entertainment and Infinitum Nihil are developing a live-action movie about the life of classic children's author and illustrator Dr. Seuss (aka Theodor Geisel). Depp will produce the project with the potential to star as Seuss, and Universal Pictures will distribute. Keith Bunin (In Treatment) has been hired to write the screenplay.

With Depp already having brought to life the Mad Hatter, Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie and Willy Wonka, the iconic Seuss seems a great fit for his chameleonic personality and recent desire to make family films. While producers say that the film is unlikely to take the fantastical CGI-coated style of Alice in Wonderland, which grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide with Depp in the lead, they are not ruling out animated bells and whistles. As some of the most popular works of all time, Geisel's books have sold more than 200 million copies worldwide.

Geisel was born in 1904 and spent much of his childhood in Springfield, Massachusetts before going to college at Dartmouth. Throughout his early years, he drew advertising and comic strips, then political cartoons during World War II. By 1950, Geisel was publishing the books that became worldwide classics. He died of throat cancer in 1991.

Universal and Illumination, which paired on last year's $543-million grossing Despicable Me, are in post-production on an animated adaptation of Seuss's The Lorax, which hits theaters in March. The Seuss estate must be happy with their handling of the author's work to open up the man's life to further cinematic interpretation. Universal produced How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) and The Cat in the Hat (2003) from classic Seuss works, as well.

George Lucas's Red Tails Featurette

One of the most anticipated films of next year Red Tails has flown in a new featurette giving us access to the actors and some behind-the-scene shots.

Red Tails is an upcoming film directed by Anthony Hemingway, from a script by John Ridley and story by executive producer George Lucas. It is based on the Tuskegee Airmen, a group of African American combat pilots during World War II, and is the first Lucasfilm Ltd. production since Radioland Murders (1994) not to be associated with the Indiana Jones or Star Wars franchises.

Red Tails Trailer-

"1944. World War II rages and the fate of the free world hangs in the balance. Meanwhile the black pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program are courageously waging two wars at once -- one against enemies overseas, and the other against discrimination within the military and back home. Racial prejudices have long held ace airman Martin "Easy" Julian (Nate Parker) and his black pilots back at base -- leaving them with little to do but further hone their flying skills -- while their white counterparts are shipped out to combat after a mere three months of training. Mistakenly deemed inferior and assigned only second-rate planes and missions, the pilots of Tuskegee have mastered the skies with ease but have not been granted the opportunity to truly spread their wings. Until now.

As the war in Europe continues to take its dire toll on Allied forces, Pentagon brass has no recourse but to reconsider these under-utilized pilots for combat duty. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, Col. A.J. Bullard (Terrence Howard) awards them the ultimate chance to prove their mettle high above. Undaunted by the prospect of providing safe escort to bombers in broad daylight -- a mission so dangerous that the RAF has refused it and the white fighter groups have sustained substantial losses -- Easy's pilots at last join the fiery aerial fray. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies in a heroic endeavor to combat the enemy -- and the discrimination that has kept them down for so long."

Footloose Movie Review By: Rama

Footloose Movie Review
By: Rama

So did Rama put on his dancing shoes after he saw Footloose? Read his review to find out. Make sure to follow him on Facebook and Twitter.

It’s been years since the last time I watched the Kevin Bacon version, I remember I wasn’t too crazy about it but I also remember enough to be able to tell that FOOTLOOSE remake tries its best to stay as faithful as possible. So that is something to appreciate about this new take. The dances and some of the song selections are obviously updated.
Despite its many flaws, for a remake, FOOTLOOSE is not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Humor is its biggest strength. If there’s an Oscar for best comic relief of the year, it would go to actor Miles Teller.

I think today’s generation will dance to the beat and the spirit of this movie just fine..

In the remake of the 1984 film, Ren MacCormack
(played by newcomer Kenny Wormald) is transplanted from Boston to the small southern town of Bomont where he experiences a heavy dose of culture shock. A few years prior, the community was rocked by a tragic accident that killed five teenagers after a night out and
Bomont’s local councilmen and the beloved Reverend Shaw Moore (Dennis Quaid) responded by implementing ordinances that prohibit loud music and dancing. Not one to bow to the status quo, Ren challenges the ban, revitalizing the town and falling in love with the
minister’s troubled daughter Ariel (Julianne Hough) in the process.

Kevin Bacon has that persona where he’s so cool even when he does cheesy stuff, because he’s Kevin freakin’ Bacon! So the newcomer Kenny Wormald who plays the new Ren, doesn’t really have that same charm. He has the moves, no doubt, but he’s no Bacon.

I really can’t take Kenny seriously when he does the speech in that town meeting scene.
In fact, I think the acting this movie is generally quite laughable, which I expect from any movie about dancing. But hey, at least it’s not one of those Step Up kind, where it’s only about a group competing with other groups for grand prize money so they could keep their home.

And I gotta hand it to the key cast, even though they’re in their mid 20s, Kenny, Julianne, and the gang look more believable as youngsters than Bacon and Singer did. Dennis Quaid can’t quite capture the same anger and intimidation that John Lithgow unleashed, Quaid has a slightly different approach to his character and it’s mainly because this remake has a slightly different approach as well.

When Craig Brewer took this job, I was surprised because I was a fan of Hustle & Flow and Black Snake Moan, and I thought Brewer only liked gritty Southern stories. But when I saw FOOTLOOSE remake, I got what he was going for. A few filmmakers out there truly, and I mean truly understand the south and Brewer is one of them.
He did the rewrite and his contributions are evident throughout this movie. The jokes that have to do with the Southern culture, the slang, the mindset, the habits, how other folks quickly judge and think that the South is incapable of progress, those elements and more exist in the movie much thanks to Brewer.
And since the town is bound by tragedy, Kenny’s character Ren needs to be able to relate to that loss in his own way, which helps the audience to also know where Quaid’s character, the preacher, is coming from, because he’s not a straight up typical villain, and he doesn’t stay angry in the end either, he’s just an overprotective father who doesn’t want to lose another child, just like his daughter, he doesn’t really know how to deal with his grief.
A father just doing his job as a father, teens just wanting to be teens. Brewer’s approach makes perfect sense.

The dance choreography is pretty fun to watch and it’s not annoying, it’s not a show-off contest. Definitely more heated and intimate than the original. As I said earlier, actor Miles Teller does a bang up job as the best friend/comic relief, that young man has found his field of expertise.
If you put this whole comparison out of the way, you may find that FOOTLOOSE remake able to stand on its own merit. If you ask today’s young audience, I’m sure almost all of them have never seen the 80s version anyway so in that sense, this is a decent fresh start.

GRADE: 3 out of 5

The Raven Trailer Is Here. Can Edgar Allan Poe Solve The Case?

The first trailer for The Raven has hit the net and we have it for you. The film stars John Cusack, Luke Evans, Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack, Being John Malkovich) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans, Immortals) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin), the film also stars Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster).

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

MELANCHOLIA Available On-Demand And iTunes

MELANCHOLIA, starring Kirsten Dunst, is now available on OnDemand, iTunes, Amazon, Vudu, Playstation and Zune!!

For more info: on the film please visit the official site and make sure to Like the film on Facebook.

The film begins with an introductory sequence, with a number of stylised images of the main characters as well as images from space. The end of the world is shown in the form of a collision between Earth and a larger planet. Melancholia is thereafter divided into two parts.

In part one, called Justine, the young couple Justine and Michael are getting married at a castle, but the party is far from successful, as Justine's divorced parents, Dexter and Gaby, are openly fighting at the dinner. Justine herself is both alienated from her sister, her new husband, her boss and her parents. She drifts away from the party, and becomes increasingly sad and desperate during the night. At several occasions, she looks at a specific star, which seems to shine brighter than normal. Claire's husband John says it is the star Antares, and later in the film the star disappears. At the end of the party, Michael leaves Justine, implying that their marriage is called off.

In part two, called Claire, Justine has initially become severely depressed. She visits Claire and John, who live in the same castle with their son Leo. To begin with, Justine is unable to do normal everyday things like taking a bath or eat, but becomes more confident over time. It has been revealed that the reason for Antares' disappearance was the rogue planet Melancholia, which had previously been hidden behind the sun, had eclipsed the star. At the same time, Melancholia, a blue telluric planet (or super-earth), has become visible in the sky. John, being very keen on astronomy, is excited about the planet, and looks forward to the so-called "fly-by", as Earth and Melancholia are supposed to pass by each other without collision.

Claire is very fearful about the planet, and believes it is the end of the world. On the night of the fly-by, it seems like John was right, as Melancholia passes by Earth in a near-miss. After the first flyby, background birdsong abruptly ceases, in reference to the falling leaves and dead birds glimpsed behind Justine in the opening frames of the film. At the same time, horses calm down from an earlier state of agitation.

In the following days, however, it turns out that Melancholia is coming back around. As John finds out, he commits suicide by taking pills. His dead body is found by Claire, who decides to keep it a secret. She then talks to her sister, who is extremely cynical about the impending doom. She doesn't believe that life exists elsewhere in the cosmos. While Claire descends into grief and madness, trying futilely to evade the oncoming destruction with Leo in her arms, Justine remains calm and enigmatically silent, seemingly accepting the forthcoming apocalypse. Their interpersonal relationship has become inverted, with Claire now dependent on Justine for emotional and psychological support.

However, later Justine tries to comfort Leo by building a crude shelter out of wooden sticks. The film ends with Justine, Claire and Leo sitting inside the shelter, as Melancholia collides, destroying Earth. Notably, Claire is still grief-stricken and fearful, while Justine and Leo remain calm until the very end.

Young Adult Trailer Starring Charlize Theron

Today we got our hands on the trailer for Young Adult. Jason Reitman's Young Adult, a dramedy starring Oscar winner Charlize Theron that will hit theaters on Dec. 9.

Like Reitman's three previous features -- the critical and commercial hits Thank You for Smoking (2005), which focused on the cigarette lobby; Juno (2007), which dealt with a teenage pregnancy; and Up in the Air (2009), which tackled unemployment -- this highly-anticipated fourth outing tackles difficult subject matter in an often funny way. Theron plays an alcoholic writer of young-adult novels who, on a whim, decides to return to the small town that she left behind years ago to aggressively pursue her ex-boyfriend from high school (Patrick Wilson) -- only, now he is happily married and the father of a young child, which certainly complicates matters, and leads her to another high school classmate (Patton Oswalt), and no shortage of trouble.

We've never seen Theron in a role quite like this before, just as we had never before seen Aaron Eckhart, Ellen Page, or George Clooney in the way that Reitman portrayed them prior to those collaborations. Considering that both Page and Clooney walked away with best actress and best actor Oscar nominations, respectively, one can certainly understand why Theron was willing to give it a shot. Call it "the Reitman touch."

Young Adult reunites Reitman with screenwriter Diablo Cody (who won the best original screenplay Oscar for their last collaboration, Juno), as well as much of the rest of his "stock company" that played such an integral role in making previous films such resounding successes (including cinematographer Eric Steelberg, film editor Dana Glauberman, first assistant director Jason Blumenfeld, and several others). Unlike those earlier films, it will be skipping the festival circuit and going directly for a late-season release.

Come Celebrate EDGAR ALLAN POE'S Death Tomorrow With Director Of "The Raven"

FRIDAY OCTOBER 7TH MARKS THE 162ND ANNIVERSARY OF EDGAR ALLAN POE’S DEATH

THE RAVEN’s official trailer will debut tonight on G4’s “Attack of the Show” and will premiere on Apple tomorrow.

THE RAVEN director James McTeigue, with co-star Luke Evans will participate in a ceremony at the gravesite of classic author Edgar Allen Poe at 2PM EST on Friday, October 7th, located at Westminster Hall and Burying Ground in Baltimore, Maryland

To celebrate Poe’s life and support Relativity Media’s March 9, 2012 theatrical release of THE RAVEN, please find the enclosed information on the film, along with little-known facts about Poe’s life and a compendium of his works.

About THE RAVEN:

Did You Know? Some Unusual Facts about Poe, the “Enigmatic Master of Darkness”:
• Poe wrote a fabricated news story of a balloon trip across the ocean to garner attention and publicity in New York City.
• Poe was a champion for higher wages for writers and international copyright law, as his writings were continuously published without him getting credit or compensation.
• Prior to becoming Poe’s wife at the age of 13, his female cousin Virginia acted as a courier, delivering letters to Poe’s lady loves.
• From 1949 to 2009, a mysterious figure has left a half-empty bottle of cognac and 3 roses on Poe’s grave every day on his birthday.
• Poe formulated rules for the short story, including that it should relate a complete action and take place within one day in one place.
• Poe was deeply interested by cryptography, the creation and translation of secret codes, and was very proud of his ability to translate them. He would chAllange readers of various publications where he worked to send him codes to decipher and, by all accounts, he seemed able to unlock the secrets to any he received.
• Poe’s lifelong dream of owning and operating his own publication never came to fruition. • Poe met with Charles Dickens while Dickens was in the US on a lecture tour, and
solicited his help with getting published in England—nothing ever came of it. • Poe’s grandfather was an important figure in the American Revolution, contributing a
large sum of his own money to outfit local branches of the Continental Army. His wife, Poe’s grandmother, personally sewed over 500 soldiers’ uniforms for Lafayette’s troops as they passed through Baltimore.
• Poe joined the Army in 1827, lying to recruiters about his age and name. He also published his first collection of poetry during this time. He achieved the rank of Sergeant Major.
• Poe experienced periods of extreme destitution, often having to burn his furniture to keep warm during the winter.
• Poe successfully sought expulsion from West Point. That being said, he was one of the top students in his class.
• Wrote poetic tributes to all the pivotal women in his life. • Poe had two biological siblings, but all were raised in separate foster homes. • Poe’s childhood hero was Lord Byron. • The Poe House and Museum in Baltimore is in jeopardy of being closed in mid-2012 due
to Baltimore City budget cuts. The city eliminated the Museum’s funding in 2010. • Edgar Allan Poe was buried in Westminster Burying Ground and had no headstone for
years after his death. In 1860, Poe’s relatives commissioned a small headstone that erroneously listed Poe’s birth date as January 20 instead of January 19 and was destroyed in a train accident before it made it to the gravesite.
• In 1875 Poe’s remains were dug up and moved to a memorial site to be near his family and a gravestone was placed in the wrong spot and was moved around several times. This lead people to wonder not only where Poe’s original burial spot was but also if the man who was moved to the spot by the memorial is even Edgar Allan Poe.
