Movie Review: #FlorenceFosterJenkins

Florence Foster Jenkins demands your laughter, then punishes you for even thinking about it. Review by Matt Cummings To be fair and completely honest, the period dramedy Florence Foster Jenkins wasn't exactly on my list of summer-must-sees; and to its credit, the film is well cast, proficiently acted and directed, and looks terrific. But the final effect is missing something, and I think I have the answer. For New York patron of the arts Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep), life for the 1940's socialite is filled with music and lavish gatherings. But Florence hides two important secrets: she contracted syphilis from her first husband, and as a result she cannot hear herself too well. She also desires to be an opera singer, but is blissfully unaware that she can't sing. I mean she's awful, dreadful, even comical according to some. But her husband St Clair (Hugh Grant) dutifully supports her anyways by hiring a pianist Cosme (Simon Helberg), who is al

FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS Post-Tonys Broadway Special Event Images

Set in 1940s New York, Florence Foster Jenkins is the true story of the legendary New York heiress and socialite ( Meryl Streep ) who obsessively pursued her dream of becoming a great singer. The voice she heard in her head was beautiful, but to everyone else it was hilariously awful. Her "husband" and manager, St. Clair Bayfield ( Hugh Grant ), an aristocratic English actor, was determined to protect his beloved Florence from the truth. But when Florence decided to give a public concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair knew he faced his greatest challenge. See all the images after the Jump... Please Leave A Comment-

Big Bang Theory Guest Star Adds Interesting Twist

Wolowitz Loses A Mother But Gains A Brother Story by David Clark It was announced this week that Matt Bennett has been tagged to play John, Howard Wolowitz’s (Simon Helberg) younger brother. Bennett is perhaps best known for his roles in the movie Bridesmaids and the television series Victorious. This is an interesting direction for the show to go with the Wolowitz storyline. Howard has always been portrayed as a ‘momma’s boy’ and an only child. Using the words attached-at-the-hip would hardly describe the awkward and sometimes inappropriate relationship between Howard and his mother - played by the recently deceased Carol Ann Susi. Other than vague references to an absent father there has never been an indication that Howard has other family in the world - Enter Matt Bennett. In a recent interview showrunner Steve Molaro said, “The passing of Mrs. Wolowitz left the door open to explore more of Howard’s family.” Molaro has also expressed interest in further exp

Is The Big Bang Theory Our Generations "Friends"

Is The Big Bang Theory Our Generations "Friends" Once upon a time, a multi-camera comedy about a group of young single friends, the core of them big-bang-theory-castliving across the hall from each other in an apartment building, aired Thursdays at 8 PM and was the biggest show on television. Will that happen again? Is The Big Bang Theory the new Friends ? While the nerdy geniuses from Big Bang seem light years with the cool and sexy bunch from the hit NBC comedy, the two shows have a lot more in common than meets the eye. Both are ensemble comedies largely set at the two apartments across from each other where the main character leave. A guy from one of the apartments starts dating a girl from the other. Both shows have catchy title songs. And now, they both share the Thursday 8PM time slot. Just how ballsy was CBS’ decision to launch a comedy block at 8 PM anchored by Big Bang? The last time the network tried that was 45 years ago with Gilligan's Island at 8 PM. Th
