BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Akira Film Hires Harry Potter Scribe

Anyone with reservations about The Hughes Brothers ' upcoming Akira might take some comfort from the fact that great efforts are being made to crack the script before the project goes before the cameras. Following drafts by Mark Fergus & Hawk Ostby (Children of Men, Iron Man), Gary Whitta (The Walking Dead, The Book of Eli) and Albert Torres (Henry Poole is Here), the latest writer to dive into Katsuhiro Otomo's colossal manga is Steve Kloves. Kloves previously adapted Michael Chabon's Wonder Boys and is one of two credited screenwriters on something called The Amazing Spider-Man , but he's probably best known for having beaten every single Harry Potter novel (apart from The Order of the Phoenix) into movie shape. While mention of Harry Potter and Akira in the same sentence might initially cause a sharp intake of breath, Kloves' presence here makes a lot of sense: he's a writer known to Akira studio Warner Bros to be able to carve strong screenplays o

Akira Movie To Be PG-13

Akira Movie To Be PG-13 We brought you the news back in February that The Hughes Bros. who brought us Menace II Society and Book Of Eli , were attached to direct WB’s live action Akira movie. The project is still produced by Leonardo DiCaprio ’s company, Appian Way, along with Andrew Lazar but it doesn’t say if Leo will play the character Kaneda. First off, as far as who among the brothers will get to direct the project, Collider chatted with producer Andrew Lazar who revealed that only Albert will be tackling the job. He’s currently conceptualizing the movie with a group of visual artists and they’ve also hired a screenwriter, Albert Torres (Henry Poole Is Here) Via Filmschoolrejects , Next stop, those of you who may be fans of AKIRA might think it deserves an R-rated treatment but WB, the studio behind The Dark Knight, thinks PG-13 would suffice. Albert recently talked on The Kevin and Josh Movie Show on 106.7 HD2 (CBS RADIO – Washington D.C.) and confirmed studio’s

Book Of Eli Movie Review #2 By:Windy

Book Of Eli Movie Review #2 By:Windy Windy had a busy week and took the time to give us another great review. Looks like we didn't differ much on our separate reviews of this film. Please stop by her site and let her know how much u enjoy her reviews. In seeing the previews, one might call The Book of Eli “The Road, with Action”. After reading Cormac McCarthy’s post-apocalyptic book, “The Road”, there was no doubt this film would have a similar backdrop. Eli, terrifically played by Denzel Washington, is a loner in a wild west inspired post natural-disaster world where one must be tough mentally and physically to survive. Washington displays the perfect calm yet bad-ass attitude that we’ve come to expect from his action roles. Without skipping a beat, he rids derelicts of their appendages, lives and pride at the same time. You’re not quite sure where he is going or what his mission is in the beginning of the film, but you quickly understand his resolve to accomplish his missio

Book Of Eli Movie Review By:Sandwichjohn

Book Of Eli Movie Review By:Sandwichjohn I had high hopes for Book of Eli, as I do for any Denzel Washington film, and while it didn’t quite live up to my high hopes it was still a good film. Denzel Washington stars as Eli, the protector of the last known copy of a certain book. It has been 31 years since “the flash” and subsequent war destroyed the world as we know it. The world now is a desolate waste land where water is scarce and books are scarcer. Gary Oldman stars as Carnegie, a corrupted mayor in a makeshift town that Eli wanders into. Carnegie has become obsessed with finding a copy of the book, he believes the words of the book have great power and that he could become a great leader with it. Mila Kunis stars as Solara, the daughter of Carnegie’s companion, who follows Eli after he escapes from the town. The action sequences were really well done. Towards the beginning of the film there was a great action sequence when Eli encounters some scavengers trying to rob him. Another

Hughes Brothers Turned Down Pirates of the Caribbean & Lone Ranger

Hughes Brothers Turned Down Pirates of the Caribbean & Lone Ranger What a mistake, in my opinion I guess if the shoe doesn't fit don't wear it. The brothers haven't had a hit since Menace To Society and Dead Presidents but I do have my fingers crossed with their up coming film The Book Of Eli. Nearly a decade passed between films for Albert and Allen Hughes—2001's "From Hell" to next week's "Book of Eli"—but don't think for a second the twin brothers weren't busy. They pursued a bunch of different Hollywood projects, and were pursued for many more. Two such films, as MTV News has exclusively learned, were mammoth Disney productions. The Hughes brothers were approached to direct both "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" and "The Lone Ranger." Once Gore Verbinksi dropped out of the "Pirates" franchise in April after directing the first three films and before Rob Marshall signed on, the Hughes broth

"The Book of Eli" Hidden Easter Eggs In The Film

"The Book of Eli" Hidden Easter Eggs In The Film Denzel Washington's upcoming post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie The Book of Eli knows it's only the latest in a long, venerable line of similarly themed movies, and it actually pays homage to them with easter eggs. Brother directors Allen and Albert Hughes slipped references to post-apocalyptic films and other classics into Eli ( spoilers ahead! ). An example: When Eli (Denzel Washington) spends the night in Carnegie's (Gary Oldman) town, check the wall for a movie poster: It's from A Boy and His Dog , the 1975 apocalyptic movie that starred Don Johnson. Albert Hughes admitted the homage was not in the original screenplay. "That was us," Albert said in an exclusive interview last month in Beverly Hills, Calif. "We put it in." There's another wink to the famous movie in Eli, Albert added: "Also, one of the snipers on the rooftop in the shootout had the exact gun from Boy and His Dog. That&

Behind the Scenes Of Book Of Eli

Behind the Scenes Of Book Of Eli Denzel Washington talks about the preparation that went into performing his own stunts and filming the intense fight choreography in 'The Book of Eli.' In the not-too-distant future, some 30 years after the final war, a solitary man walks across the wasteland that was once America. Empty cities, broken highways, seared earth-all around him, the marks of catastrophic destruction. There is no civilization here, no law. The roads belong to gangs that would murder a man for his shoes, an ounce of water…or for nothing at all. But they’re no match for this travelerA warrior not by choice but necessity, Eli (Denzel Washington) seeks only peace but, if challenged, will cut his attackers down before they realize their fatal mistake. It’s not his life he guards so fiercely but his hope for the future; a hope he has carried and protected for 30 years and is determined to realize. Driven by this commitment and guided by his belief in something greater than
