Starman To Be Rebooted By Shawn Levy

Shawn Levy is shooting for the stars. Levy, the helmer behind the Night at the Museum movies as well as Real Steel , has signed on to direct and produce Starman , Columbia Pictures’ remake of the 1980s sci-fi romance that starred Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen. Michael Douglas , who produced the original, will produce with Levy. Arash Amel, best known for writing the Nicole Kidman drama Grace of Monaco, is writing the script for the project. Starman told of an alien who crash lands on Earth and assumes the form of a woman’s dead husband. He forces the woman to take him to a rendezvous site but on the road trip, a romance blossoms, all the while the government is in hot pursuit to capture him, dead or alive. Not to mention the robots look absolutely fascinating, the fight sequences are pulse pounding and incredible. If you ever wondered what the classy movie Rocky would be like if it were about a bunch of boxing robots, I highly recommend watching R

The Wolverine Gets A Rewrite

With filming now delayed, as the production team waits out the weather in Japan and leading man Hugh Jackman heads off to star in Tom Hooper’s new version of Les Miserables , it seems that The Wolverine ’s director James Mangold is taking the opportunity to run the script through the re-write machine courtesy of Unstoppable’s Mark Bomback. As you’ll likely already be aware, the new outing for Logan will see the freshly amnesiac anti-hero looking for a place in the Japanese criminal underworld. There’ll he’ll find both love and problems, with the majority of the latter provided by the evil Silver Samurai . But as Variety reports, there will also be another thorn in his side, as he’ll face off against Viper , credited here as the secretary for Japan’s Minister of Justice. But fans of Marvel comics know she has a much deeper history than that, having trained with Wolverine at one point with mentor Seraph. She’s also had more friendly dealings with Silver Samurai. While we’re not sur

Will Hugh Jackman Take A Voyage?

Hugh Jackman is director Shawn Levy's first choice to star in 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Voyage , the James Cameron -produced 3D tent pole film. It's early days, but this would give Jackman a big movie to do while he and Fox sort things out with The Wolverine . The film was on a fast track to start production this year, until Darren Aronofsky dropped out as director. They've considered such helmers as Source Code's Duncan Jones and David Slade, but haven't yet hired a helmer. There has also been complications because the Christopher McQuarrie script is set almost entirely in Japan, a country still dealing with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and monsoon. Pushing the picture back wouldn't hurt Fox that much, because expectations are high for this summer's X-Men: First Class , which would keep the franchise vibrant. It would also keep Jackman and Levy in the Fox fold at a time when their recent collaboration, Real Steel , looks like it co

First Picture Of Hugh Jackman In "Real Steel"

First Picture Of Hugh Jackman In "Real Steel" Now I for one would not want to face this guy in the ring. The iron-jawed fighter is from the upcoming film Real Steel, the film stars Hugh Jackman and he will not be throwing any punches. The movie, directed by Shawn Levy (Date Night), imagines a world in which human boxing is non-existent, replaced by leagues of mechanized pugilists. It's expected to arrive in theaters in November 2011. "The moment of walking in and seeing these robots, my jaw was on the floor," Jackman said Monday. That's because the robot in this image is a real device, not a digital visual effect. Motion-capture animation is used in the film when the machines are brawling (with boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard working as an adviser on those), but 19 real-life animatronic giants were created for scenes with the human actors. Levy says that blend was encouraged by Steven Spielberg , an executive producer. (This is a DreamWorks fil

"Real Steel" To Star Hugh Jackman

"Real Steel" To Star Hugh Jackman Story centers on a fighter who has to reinvent himself when human boxers are replaced by robots. Jackman will play a struggling Robot Boxing promoter who finds a discarded robot that always seems to win. He also discovers he has a 11-year-old son, and they bond as the robot brawls its way toward the top. Although grounded in the father-son relationship, Levy describes the film as a "rousing sports movie" with Jackman's character "a former boxer who can no longer do the only job he's good at, and one particular robot that may be his return to grace." The DreamWorks principals have greenlit the "Rocky"-esque robot tale "Real Steel," to star Hugh Jackman, as their first pic since raising $650 million from both J.P. Morgan Securities and Reliance Big Pictures and an additional $175 million from Disney, which will distrib DreamWorks titles. Based on a short story by Richard Matheson, "Real Steel
