BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

TV Review: Lethal Weapon "Pilot"

I'm getting too bored for this shit. Review by Brandon Wolfe Though it was far from the first buddy movie, Lethal Weapon sort of perfected the form. So many of its particulars weren’t that remarkable on paper. The partners being separated by race, age and temperament, yet forging a bond all the same, all of this was old-hat even in 1987. The alchemy of Lethal Weapon ’s success came down to the idiosyncrasies of its players. Shane Black’s witty, gritty script, Richard Donner’s expert craftsmanship and, above all, the incomparable chemistry between stars Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Lethal Weapon was funny, brutal, exciting and heartwarming in equal measure, and gave us two characters whose camaraderie was so engaging that they became the gold standard all buddy-cop duos would forever be held to. The adventures of Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh continued on for three more films, the last of which arrived way back in 1998. The characters have laid dormant in the nearly two decad

Josh Trank: "You'll Never See My Movie"

The embattled director claims Fox altered his film as its release approaches. Story by Matt Cummings Let the Fantastic Four blame game begin. On the eve of its release, Director Josh Trank set the Internet ablaze on Thursday when he Tweeted - and then deleted - the following about his film: And Josh Trank deleted his tweet. Good news, I still have it. The oral history lives: pic.twitter.com/AnZQ6ilM9r — Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) August 7, 2015 The Tweet was soon removed by Trank, but not before Uproxx's Mike Ryan captured it. The event is another indication that things on the FF set were exactly what we reported, as the film has endured all kinds of problems. It started when the cast was announced, featuring a black Johnny Storm, an adopted Sue Storm, and a lead in Miles Teller, who's known mostly for his comedy. Then news arose of Trank's erratic behavior on set and claims that his pets trashed the rental home he was using during the shoot. That claim was

Fall 2015 Television Preview: Fox

We continue our look at the upcoming Fall television season by focusing on Fox's offerings. Story by Sue Lukenbaugh Fox did a fair amount of chopping as well, taking out 13 shows. It canceled long running shows American Idol , The Following , Kitchen Nightmares , Glee , The X Factor , and The Mindy Project , though Mindy did get saved by a Hulu pick-up. Also getting the ax were Backstrom , Gang Related , Gracepoint , Mulaney , Red Band Society , Utopia and Weird Loners . The upcoming season has some real gems, let's just hope that FOX actually keeps a few around. Bordertown – Release Date TBD Plot: A new animated comedy about two families living in a Southwest desert town on the U.S. - Mexico border. It takes a satirical look at the cultural shifts occurring in America, where the U.S. Census forecasts that by 2017, ethnic minorities will become the majority. Set against this increasingly diverse backdrop, the series explores family, politics and everything

Network Pilot Season Has Begun

The Big 5 deciding what they expect us to watch this fall. By Brandon Wolfe Pilot season has commenced as the networks have begun their first round of pickups. NBC has ordered the dramas The Player , Chicago Med , Blindspot and Heartbreaker to series. Also in contention are Warrior , Game of Silence , The Curse of the Fuentes Women and Love Is a Four Letter Word . The network is really pinning its rebirth hopes on drama rather than comedy, the genre upon which it built an empire in the ‘80s and ‘90s. The crop given the go-ahead today will join fellow dramas Shades of Blue , Emerald City and pointless reboot/event series Heroes: Reborn in the fall. On the comedy front, NBC has a number of prospects, including Superstore , Strange Calls , People Are Talking , a pointless small-screen reboot of Problem Child , How We Live and Cuckoo . Already ordered are Telenovela starring Eva Longoria and, yet one more pointless reboot, Coach . Fox will be adding its television adapt

Survey: Consumers Now Prefer Streaming vs Live TV

What do the survey's results mean for the future of television? Story by Matt Cummings Ours is a world driven by technology. From smart devices to web apps, technology has affected the way we live every minute of our lives. And according to a new survey, it's affecting the way people consume entertainment. According to The Deloitte Digital Democracy Survey , US consumers are now more willing to watch streaming entertainment than tune in to it via live TV. The ninth annual results were published by the consulting firm Deloitte, who sampled 2,076 US consumers from Nov. 3-19, 2014. Here is just some of the landmark data: Services such as Netflix, who now have subscribers in approximately 42% of American households, have overtaken live television as the most preferred way to watch programming. More people now stream movies (56%) and television (53%), eclipsing those who still prefer to watch live television (45%). Consumers 14-25 - dubbed the "Trailing Mil

David Ducovny Thinks Broadcast TV Needs Shorter Seasons

Here's why his recent comments are absolutely necessary in order for network television's survival. Story by Matt Cummings Network television - specifically CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, and The CW - are in a sort of renaissance. Fueled by some of the best programming we've seen since the "Must See" era of 1994-1995, shows are grittier and more realistic than ever before. Yet, some would claim the opposite, that the current formula for television is outdated and could lead to its death unless big changes are made. With pay television opting for shorter seasons (that is, between 10-13 episodes) with shows like the Amazon Original Bosch, broadcast television has been slow to catch up. Recent trends - such as the short run for Marvel's Agent Carter - suggest that someone is listening. But, has there been enough to change the entire industry? That subject has been on our minds lately, as we've discussed it several times on our podcast Inside the Buck

Andy Samberg To Host 2015 Emmy Awards Show

Find Out The 'Who' and 'Where' Story by David Clark Emmy Award winner Andy Samberg has been selected to host the 2015 Emmy Awards show at the Nokia Theatre (Los Angeles) in September. The national broadcast will be airing live on Fox . An interesting decision given that it will be in direct competition with the ever popular National Football League’s Sunday night game. If aired two weeks earlier, the awards show would not have had such stiff competition. Programming aside, for the people at home who enjoy watching celebrities win trophies, this year's show should be entertaining. Samberg should be a solid selection to take the show back to the heights reached when hosted by individuals like Conan O’Brien and Neil Patrick Harris . A host is integral to maintaining the attention of the audience, and to command the ratings a network hopes to receive when backing this type of an event. Being able to stand center-stage and carry the attention of an

Is There a Minority Report Show Coming to Fox?

New pilot on Fox a good idea? Only a precog knows. Story by David Clark For all of my fellow movie and science fiction fans out there the buzz coming from Fox regarding new pilots could be both exciting and terrifying. Most striking on the upcoming programming schedules is a listing for a movie to television adaptation of the 2002 science fiction thriller starring Tom Cruise that will pick up in the same universe a short time after the movie ended. At first glance this sounds great. If you have felt like television has been missing a staple science fiction series over the past few years, you might not be the only one. There was a golden age in television when shows like: Star Trek , Battlestar Galactica , V , X-files , and Stargate (s) dominated science fiction programming. Even in modern times there have been popular, if not polarizing, shows like Doctor Who and Fringe that have knocked out their own place in the hearts of modern science fiction fans. Hopefully

TV Review: Gotham "Rogues' Gallery"

Read on to see what's going down in Gotham this week Gotham “Rogues' Gallery” Review by Brandon Wolfe It would appear that Gotham didn’t make any resolutions for the New Year. The show kicks off 2015 still plodding along as tepidly as it did during its dismal fall run, the same key problems remaining intact. If the show is going to blossom into something worthwhile during its first season, perhaps it’s saving that for the spring, that time of the year when all that is withered begins to bloom. That or it will continue to die on the vine. It could go either way. Displaced from the GCPD for his unwavering straight-arrow crusading, Gordon has landed in a menial gig as a security guard at the newly reopened (yet still dilapidated) Arkham Asylum, overseeing lavish inmate talent shows, the likes of which are almost certainly commonplace at institutions for treating the criminally insane. But because Gordon watching incarcerated felons perform dinner theater would threa
