Saoirse Ronan And Gemma Arterton Become Vampires In "Byzantium"

Oscar winning filmmaker Neil Jordan is reuniting with producer Stephen Woolley to make Byzantium, a female vampire movie with Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton as the lead bloodsuckers.

The original script is penned by Moira Buffini and details the story of a mother vampire who turns her own daughter into a vampire and the pair form a lethal partnership, sometimes posing as sisters.

The £8 million ($11 million) budgeted movie is set to shoot in October.

Jordan and Woolley have made several movies dating back to 1984’s The Company of Wolves, based on Angela Carter’s novel.

Woolley produced Jordan’s Oscar winning The Crying Game also and last worked together on Breakfast on Pluto in 2005.

“I love the horror genre and we’ve been working on this for three or four years. I sent it to Neil and he liked the script,” Woolley said. “We’d both recently revisited Angela Carter’s book and it was just chance that when I called [Jordan], we were thinking along the same lines.”

The original script is based on a youth theater play by Buffini but has been taken to a slightly more adult, darker level, Woolley said.

Alex Pettyfer Joins Magic Mike

This is going to gobsmack almost everyone in Hollywood. Not only did Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh just choose 21-year-old newcomer Alex Pettyfer for this juicy role in Magic Mike. But also, the film has such an interesting storyline because the plot revolves around Channing Tatum's real-life stripper sojourn. Now Pettyfer will play a young Tatum baring it all while Channing plays his older mentor. Pettyfer recently starred in I Am Number Four and Beastly, and will appear this fall opposite Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried for New Regency in a film that was called Now, and just changed its name today to In Time.

Soderbergh's Magic Mike is the story of a friendship set in the world of male strippers. Tatum plays the title character, who schools a young dancer (Pettyfer) in how to hustle on and off the stage. It's a wild summer of dancing, partying, and women. The inspiration was Channing's own experiences as a stripper when he was 19. With Tatum, Nick Wechsler is producing with Gregory Jacobs and Reid Carolin who is writing the script. Soderbergh has called the film "sexy, funny and shocking" using Saturday Night Fever as a model.

Bridesmaids Movie Review By: SandwichJohn

Bridesmaids Movie Review
By: SandwichJohn

Gotta start with this first, the title is misleading. When most guys read the title they think chick flick. Fellas you are truly mistaken. This movie is indeed made for men and women to enjoy and laugh their ass off. So if you want to earn some points with the lady then offer to take her to see the movie, and I all most guarantee you'll like it more then her.

Bridesmaids was produced by Judd Apatow (40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up) and should be the first reason you go see it. The second are break out stars Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy (Samantha Who?,Mike & Molly) and Chris O'Dowd this for sure was his break out role. You may not know his name now but after this film you surely will.

Kristen Wiig plays Annie, best friend for life with Maya Rudolph (Lillian). Lillian decides to get married and of course her best friend is asked to be her maid of honor. This is where the trouble begins. Annie is introduced to the rest of the bridesmaids. Wendi McLendon-Covey (Rita), Melissa McCarthy (Megan), Ellie Kemper (Becca) and Rose Byrne (Helen). And this is where all hell breaks loose.

Annie and Helen start off on the wrong foot. We get to see the rivalry at the engagement party when they try to out do each other on their toast speech. Keep an ear out for Lillian's father he has some great one liners through out the film.

There are some memorable scenes in the movie. Ones that everyone will be talking about after they get out of the movie. When the ladies go to try on bridesmaid dresses (I will say nothing more about this scene) and the airplane moment. McCarthy is the show stealer in both acts.

There is a super sweet State Trooper Nathan (Chris Dowd) that Annie keeps bumping into and has an immediate connection with. To quote someone in the theater "He is so cute, I would date him." Nathan and Annie have a moment and roles are reversed. The love story between the two is very sweet and some people in the audience will understand what the two of them are going through.

In the film each actress in the film is given an opportunity to create huge laughs from their own characterizations.

And like any films it ends with some huge laughs and ends with Huge surprise guest singers at the wedding that made everyone in the audience start singing.

Sasha Grey To "Skinny Dip" In Her Next Film

Pam Grier, Michael Madsen and Brigitte Nielsen have joined the comic exploitation flick Skinny Dip for production outfit The Zoo.

Sasha Grey and Danny Trejo are already aboard to star in the story of a girl who takes an innocent dare, ends up terribly victimized and then seeks shotgun-wielding revenge while wearing a stolen police uniform (tagline: “They took her bikini. They took her virginity. She took her revenge.”).

“I grew up on and have always loved the films of the 70’s and 80’s featuring such on-screen idols as Pam Grier, Laura Gemser and Grace Jones,” said Latina. “They contain, in my opinion, some the most powerful female performances in cinema history. Skinny Dip will draw from a new, equally powerful and provocative actress in Sasha Grey. Combining the wild, exploitative sensibility of grindhouse films with strong female characters drawn from the present – these are the kinds of films I make and want to see.”

Jack Turner and Nicholas Shumaker of the Zoo have partnered with Colombia-based Be-TV to produce the project, which will begin filming in Santa Marta, Colombia next month. Tayrona Entertainment Group is distributing the film in Latin America. Tayrona's James Ordonez and Ken Gord are executive producers along with Mammoth Entertainment.

Elle Driver is repping international sales at the Marche du Film in Cannes, while CAA and Submarine are co-repping domestic rights.

Latina and Lasca are repped by the NYC-based Zoo, which is also developing the documentary Me at the Zoo, Eva Husson’s Bang Gang and Latina’s Bulletproof Mustache. Shumaker produced the Sundance drama Another Earth, which Fox Searchlight picked up for a summer release.

Wonder Woman TV Show Not Given A Chance

This spring, no pilot was more buzzy, controversial, or intensely scrutinized than "Wonder Woman." But evidently, buzz is not enough to overcome the stink of a misbegotten failure: This week, NBC declined to pick up the show.

The news comes as the networks prepare for their upfront presentations (where they unveil their fall schedules for advertisers). "Wonder Woman" would have seemed to be a sure thing: It was produced by David E. Kelley, whose TV successes with the network date back to "L.A. Law," and starred geek-bait stars like Cary "The Princess Bride" Elwes and Elizabeth "Austin Powers" Hurley. But reports of its abysmal script (which was later rewritten, to slightly more positive effect) seem to have been borne out in a pilot episode NBC could not approve. The ongoing agita over the design of the title character's costume — which producers attempted to quell by announcing Wonder Woman would actually alternate three different looks — probably didn't help either.

"Wonder Woman" is not the only pilot NBC commissioned, and then (reportedly) rejected. "A. Mann's World," a dramedy from "Sex and the City" producer Michael Patrick King, would have starred Don Johnson as a hairstylist, and Ellen Barkin as his ex-wife. "17th Precinct" would have reteamed "Battlestar Galactica" co-creator Ron Moore with "Galactica" stars James Callis and Jamie Bamber, but the notion of a series about a magic police station (really) may have been too strange for network television. And author A.J. Jacobs has expressed equanimity about the death of a sitcom pilot based on his book "My Life as an Experiment": "As the Jews say, may its memory be a blessing!...I will always have the fake BlackBerry prop that I stole from the set. They can't take that away from me!"

Fortunately for David E. Kelley, he has had some good news from NBC this week: It has picked up his surprise hit dramedy "Harry's Law" for a second season. Maybe he can write in a role for Adrianne Palicki, the would-have-been Wonder Woman: I see her as a sassy, very tall brunette paralegal, who never dresses in latex bustiers.

X-Men First Class Magic Trick

Here is another T.V. clip for the upcoming film X-Men First Class called "Magic Trick" In the clip we get to meet Agent Stryker, is this the father of William "Bill" Stryker from the previous X-Men films?

Watch the clip after the Jump...

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Bacon. Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass”) directs, and the producers are Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer. Singer, who helmed the acclaimed blockbusters “X-Men” and “X2,” wrote the story for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.

NBC's Chuck Return's For A 5th Season

Perennial bubble show Chuck has apparently avoided cancellation once again. While NBC sources are not confirming that the spy-fi series will get a fifth season, several sources are reporting that a deal is being hammered out with Warner Bros. and is imminent.

Though the ratings have been at their lowest this spring, Warner Bros. would love to make a deal, because five seasons of Chuck means syndication. As for NBC, well, scripted drama has not been the network's friend. That said, don't be surprised if we get a shorter 13-episode final season.

So, while it looks like fans won't have to eat mountains of Subway sandwiches to save Chuck as they did to insure a third season of the show, there are no such hopeful murmurings for The Event, which has even lower ratings. The alien conspiracy series is not likely to be renewed.

Ashton Kutcher Is Winning. Actor To Get 1 Million Per Episode

Ashton Kutcher would be paid around $1 million per episode of CBS hit show Two and a Half Men, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday, citing people briefed on the deal.

It said it was is unclear whether that figure includes any share in the back-end profits from reruns of the series.

The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday broke the news that Kutcher, CBS and production firm Warner Bros. were putting the finishing touches on the deal to bring the actor on as the new star of the show, replacing Charlie Sheen.

Sheen was the highest paid actor in television with a salary of $2 million per episode when including his portion of rerun money.

Human Nature For George Clooney & Darren Aronofsky

Two months after Darren Aronofsky announced that he wouldn’t be making The Wolverine, Vulture has learned that the Black Swan director has set his sights on a new film: a fifteen-year-old original sci-fi spec script called Human Nature by a little-known screenwriter named Jeff Welch.

George Clooney is attaching himself to star as a man who is cryogenically frozen and wakes up years later to a world in which humans have become pets of another species.

Insiders tell us that Warner Bros.–based producer Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) is currently budgeting the movie, but if things go to plan, this would likely be Aronofsky’s next project.

Dr. Hector Hammond Character Poster From Green Lantern

Via Facebook, we get a character poster of Peter Sarsgaard as Dr. Hector Hammond. If you have no idea who Dr. Hector Hammond, here is alittle back ground on him.

A scientist who discovers the fragments of a strange meteor that causes his brain to grow to enormous size, granting him psionic powers. Regarding his preparation for the role, Sarsgaard stated, "I actually did hang with this biologist from Tulane that was I think just the most eccentric guy they could find. He was entertaining, and he and I actually worked on my lecture that I give in [Green Lantern], which I kept royally fucking up. About his character Sarsgaard remarked, "He's got shades of gray. It's eccentricity on top of eccentricity".

In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.

Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallax…he will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.

Campbell directs “Green Lantern” from a screenplay by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim and Michael Goldenberg, story by Greg Berlanti & Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim, based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics.

The film also stars Blake Lively (upcoming “The Town,” TV’s “Gossip Girl”) as the spirited Carol Ferris, a test pilot and the heir apparent to her father’s aviation company; Peter Sarsgaard (“An Education,” “Flightplan”) as scientist Dr. Hector Hammond; Mark Strong (“Sherlock Holmes”) as Sinestro, Jordan’s powerful mentor in the Green Lantern Corps; Jay O. Sanders (“Revolutionary Road”) as Carl Ferris, Carol’s aircraft designer dad; Temuera Morrison (“Star Wars” Episodes II and III) as Abin Sur, Jordan’s alien predecessor; Taika Waititi (TV’s “The Flight of the Conchords”) as flight navigator Tom Kalmaku, Hal’s good friend and confidante; Academy Award® nominee Angela Bassett (“What’s Love Got to Do with It”) as enigmatic government scientist Amanda Waller; and Academy Award® winner Tim Robbins (“Mystic River”) as Hector’s influential father, Senator Robert Hammond.

The film is being produced by Donald De Line (“The Italian Job”) and Greg Berlanti (upcoming “Life As We Know It”). Herbert W. Gains and Andrew Haas serve as executive producers. Geoff Johns and Lucienne Papon are co-producing.

Rachel Weisz Could Join Jeremy Renner In The Bourne Legacy

Deadline is reporting that Rachel Weisz is in even deeper talks to star opposite Jeremy Renner in Universal Pictures' latest in the Bourne franchise.  She may not be able to: the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy starts shooting in September, and Oz is planned to go into production this summer.

In the Bourne spinoff, two-time Oscar nominee Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town) will play a new character: an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.

Renner is not a kid, and Weisz would be a compatible co-star. In Oz, she would join James Franco and Mila Kunis and play Evanora, the meaner older witch sister of Theodora (Kunis).

Battle For "The Terminator" Rights Have Begun

A high-stakes battle is being waged for the right to relaunch The Terminator, with Fast Five helmer Justin Lin attached to direct and Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to reprise his signature role in one of filmdom’s most iconic franchises. Yesterday, it looked like Lionsgate would win the property with an outright purchase, with an upfront payment of at least half of the $29.5 million that Pacificor spent to claim the property in a bankruptcy auction. That was until Megan Ellison and her Annapurna Films came in with a bid that was higher. They are now fighting it out. As she usually does when she commits to a film, Ellison is staking that amount without having a distributor locked in place.

We wrote about how Justin Lin was attached to the film last month, and this was the first real activity on The Terminator project since February 2010, when the property emerged from a bankruptcy auction and into the possession of Pacificor. While there were several dealmaking scenarios offered, including an option and first dollar gross fees, it's understandable why an outright purchase would be most attractive to the rights holders.

The Santa Barbara-based hedge fund posted a bid of $29.5 million, with the promise that additional multimillion-dollar payments for each film would go to Halcyon, the company that made the 2009 McG-directed Terminator Salvation. That’s a lot of money to lay out for an extended period of time, with interest costs rising.

Deadline has been told that the deal will close shortly, and that the project could become another hot Schwarzenegger title at the Cannes Film Festival market that's just getting under way. It would be the third Schwarzenegger movie there. Lionsgate also has Schwarzenegger in the action film The Last Stand, set up as the English language debut of Kim–ji-Woon. Schwarzenegger is also at the center of a QED-funded project that Schwarzenegger is also attached to star in, Cry Macho. Lionsgate has long been interested in extending the James Cameron-created universe of Skynet, John and Sara Connor, and the indestructible cyborgs. In fact, when Halcyon ran out of money and went into bankruptcy, Pacificor beat out a combined bid by Lionsgate and Sony planning to make back-to-back sequels to bring the franchise to a natural creative conclusion.

As for Ellison, this is a big surprise. She has shown a willingness to back projects by prestige filmmakers, funding not only the Paul Thomas Anderson pic that was just bought for worldwide distribution by The Weinstein Company, but also the Kathryn Bigelow-Mark Boal drama about the hunt and capture of Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, which is also being auctioned at the moment by Ellison's reps. Why would she veer from prestige pictures? Maybe she is looking for a franchise that could give her a better chance to make some money back on her multi-million dollar investment.

Whether it's Lionsgate or Annapurna, they face the same timing issues. There is a stipulation in copyright law that if you assign your rights, you get them back in 35 years. In this case, Cameron assigned his rights to Hemdale, and the North American rights will revert back to him in 2018. Now, Cameron has more or less washed his hands of the Terminator franchise, but I'm told a new deal would have to be made with him if the plan was to keep making Terminator installments beyond that period. Franchise hungry Lionsgate will have to work with Lin—who’ll be back to direct another in The Fast and the Furious franchise, but there’s no reason Lionsgate, Lin and Schwarzenegger shouldn’t be able to make at least two pictures before then.

House Renewed For An 8th Season

Dr. House will be on call for another season. Fox on Tuesday announced an eighth season pickup for the Hugh Laurie medical drama, confirming widespread speculation.

“Over the past seven seasons, House has redefined the medical drama and has given us one of television’s most compelling and iconic characters,” said Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly. “From the producers to the incredible writers to the unbelievably talented cast and crew, the House team is fearless in its creativity and I can’t wait to see what they have in store next year.”

The announcement follows protracted negotiations between the show’s studio Universal Media Studios and network Fox over the show’s license fee, which spilled out into the press. At issue: who will pay what percentage for an eighth season.

Fox was looking to shave the license fee for the aging show as much as 20 percent, even as production costs rise, sources tells the Hollywood Reporter. Meantime, UMS had hoped to squeeze more seasons out of the deal, but Fox held tight with only one —and likely final--season for the show.

Though it has shed viewers of late, House remains one of Fox’s top scripted programs and has long proved a powerhouse internationally and grossed in the neighborhood of $1 billion over its seven season run, according to some estimates.

And thanks to the fact that Adam's father (Kevin Kline), a fallen television star, has just begun dating his son's ex-girlfriend, the horrified bachelor has developed an aversion to monogamy as well. At first their casual stance on sex works great for both; Emma can focus on her career instead of allowing her emotions to dictate her decisions, and Adam can play the field without fear of hurting her feelings. Over time, though, a funny thing happens -- Adam begins to develop feelings for Emma that he never had for any of his countless conquests. Before they both know it, love has reared its ugly head and they've gotten too emotionally involved to cut the relationship off cold. But is commitment in the cards for the couple that always swore it would never get serious, or has the time come for them to finally part ways once and for all?

Blue Valentine

A relationship is charted from its promising beginning to its sad collapse in this independent drama from Derek Cianfrance. Dean (Ryan Gosling) meets Cindy (Michelle Williams) when they're in their late teens; he's working for a moving company, she's a college student visiting her elderly grandmother at a home for the elderly. Cindy is dating Bobby (Mike Vogel), her boyfriend from high school, but as she gets to know Dean better, a mutual attraction grows between them. Years later, Dean and Cindy are married and have a daughter, Frankie (Faith Wladyka), but they're clearly not as happy as they once were; Dean loves his daughter but feels distant from his wife, they have to look after an elderly relative (John Doman), and when Cindy bumps into Bobby while running errands, it's clear he still holds a grudge against her. Dean and Cindy go away for a weekend together at a hotel, but it doesn't take long for them to realize that the magic isn't coming back. Blue Valentine received its world premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival.

Black Death

As the Black Death sweeps through Medieval England, young monk Osmund (Eddie Redmayne) sends his girlfriend, Averill (Kimberley Nixon), to the safety of the remote forest while he remains at the monastery to serve God. Shortly thereafter, Ulric (Sean Bean) and his fierce band of Christian crusaders show up seeking a guide to help them locate an isolated village that is said to be untouched by the Black Plague. Convinced that this may be his one opportunity to reunite with Averill and serve a higher power at the same time, Osmund volunteers. Later, as the group departs, Osmund learns that their mission has much darker implications. Rumors persist that within the village dwells a necromancer with the power to bring the dead back to life; their true goal is to take the sorcerer back to the bishop for confession, trial, and execution. Under the leadership of the deeply reverent Ulric, the group forges ever deeper into the blighted countryside, encountering madness, unrest, and unspeakable suffering along the way. Later, when the seekers finally arrive at their remote destination, they quickly find that the fantastical rumors seem rooted in fact -- not a single one of the villagers shows signs of infection, food remains plentiful, and spirits there are high. When mysterious village matriarch Langiva (Carice van Houten) reveals that survival does not come without sacrifice, however, Osmund realizes that his dark journey has only just begun. John Lynch and Tim McInnerny star in this shocking period horror film from director Christopher Smith (Severance, Creep) and writer Dario Poloni (Wilderness).
