Ruben Fleischer To Direct Uncharted

Here we go again... The seemingly poisoned chalice that is the directing assignment on Sony's adaptation of the Uncharted is now likely to end up in the hands of Zombieland 's Ruben Fleischer, who has landed at the top of the studio's wishlist. The Uncharted series, should you be unaware, is a globe-trotting, loot-hunting set of Playstation games, blending Indiana Jones-style adventuring with several parts Tomb Raider and just a dash of National Treasure. Its hero is Nathan Drake (voiced by Nolan North), who undertakes action-packed trips to the likes of El Dorado, Shambala and the Iram of the Pillars, quipping many a quip and shooting many a henchman along the way. A film based on the game has become a revolving door of filmmakers and actors, with Bumblebee's Travis Knight the most recent director to vacate the seat as the studio aims to have the movie shooting before current star Tom Holland swings off to appear in the next Spider-Man film later this year. Bohemian Rhapsody Rocked The Box-Office

After years lingering in development limbo, and hit by controversy over the firing of director Bryan Singer, Bohemian Rhapsody has arrived with a strong launch at the US box office, earning $50 million for its first weekend. BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY Movie Review ' Bloody brilliant biopic'- The biopic charting the rise of rock supergroup Queen and charismatic, boundary-pushing lead singer Freddie Mercury also did well internationally, for a worldwide total of $141 million so far – a good result for the $50 million spent making it. And it was a much more successful film filled with music than Disney's The Nutcracker And The Four Realms. Despite looking to counter-programmer and take aim at a family audience, the fantasy film seemed more like a lump of coal than an early Chrimbo treat, landing with just $20 million. Which might seem like a chunk of change, but given its $120 million budget (before marketing costs), that's not a good start and a rare miss for the Mouse Hous

Halloween Kills At The Box Office

In true Michael Myers fashion, the new Halloween slaughtered the competition at the Stateside box office this weekend. The return of The Shape (and Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode) saw an October record-breaking $77.5 million, another winner for the Blumhouse team. To be fair, the new horror didn't have any wide release competition, but it easily saw off the returning likes of A Star Is Born (which stayed in second place with $19.3 million) and Venom (finally deposed from the top spot, slipping to third with $18.1 million). Fourth was Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween , which kept its position and earned $9.7 million. Rounding out the top five we have First Man , which has continued to underperform, dropping a couple of places and adding $8.5 million. The Hate U Give expanded its screen count and rose in the charts to sixth, grabbing $7.5 million, that put it ahead of Smallfoot in seventh, with the yeti animated comedy earning $6.6 million. Night School fell to eigh

Venom Takes Down The Competition For The Second Week

It might chronicle the mighty effort to land humans on the moon, but First Man couldn't rocket past the two big current success stories at the American box office. Venom , in particular, is confounding the negative critical response and earning well, taking in $35.7 million this weekend, according to studio estimates. The Tom Hardy –starring comicbook pic has so far made more than $142 million in the US and has crossed $378 million worldwide in just a couple of weeks on release, which likely means the sequel talks are already starting. And the top two stayed the same, as A Star Is Born continued to perform, adding $28 million as it roars towards $100 million (which it should cross this coming week). First Man , meanwhile, had to settle for one small step as it launched third, taking in $16.5 million. Still, opening more in line with expectations was Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween , kicking off its box office run with a less-than-thrilling $16.2 million. Smallfoot fell to f

#Venom Official Poster Is Live

Venom , which stars Tom Hardy . Venom will bring he Spider-Man antagonist to the fore, albeit more in the form of a conflicted antihero than a threat. Hardy plays Eddie Brock, the photojournalist who becomes merged with the alien symbiote. Morbius: The Living Vampire Film In The Works

The Spider spin-offs keep on coming! With Venom now shooting, an even more obscure character from the web-slinger's extensive comicbook past has now been unearthed, with plans for a movie. Power Rangers writing duo Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless are in talks to craft the script for Morbius: The Living Vampire . Sony is pushing ahead with another potential Spider-movie, which, like Venom, is unlikely to be linked to the MCU. What it will boast, however, is the story of Michael Morbius, a Nobel Prize-winning biochemist who tries to cure a rare blood disease using an experimental treatment that combines electroshock therapy and vampire bats. The results are predictably catastrophic, and he's transformed into... well, the title should be a clue. He has some of the traditional vampiric qualities – he ingests blood to live, and conversely is not fond of bright light. He can fly, has superhuman strength and healing capabilities. When he bites victims and drinks their blood, his a

Tom Hardy Is The Venom

THR is reporting Tom Hardy , who was nominated for an Oscar for his work in The Revenant , is in final negotiations to star in Venom , while Ruben Fleischer , best known for directing Zombieland , is final negotiations to helm the movie project centering on one of Spider-Man’s signature villains. The project is one of Sony’s top priorities and the studio is not wasting time as the movie is set to open Oct. 5, 2018. Venom is to usher in a host of movies from Sony's Marvel and Spider-Man-based universe of characters. Sony is rebooting its Marvel-based slate with this summer’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and Venom is a key title in its slate. The studio is also developing a Silver Sable/Black Cat project among other characters from the Spider-Man stable. Venom has been one of Marvel’s top villains and a Spider-Man fixture since he was introduced in 1988, created by writer David Michelinie and artists Todd McFarlane and Mike Zeck. The character is an alien symbiote that needs a

Marvel Collector Corps Review: October 2015

Marvel Collector Corps delivers steady returns with its VILLAINS theme. Review by Matt Cummings The subscription box war has seen amazing things lately, with two of the best ever from both Loot Crate and Geek Fuel. But folks, remember that an upstart is making waves as well: Marvel Collector Corps. Ill-content to let money pass along to lesser box companies, Marvel has delivered steady returns for fans in May , June , and August . This sort of 'steady-Eddie' approach might make each box seem a bit...predictable...but its quality and value make it a compelling choice whil.e others ebb and flow with increasing frequency. This month it's VILLAINS. The Promise Before we begin, let's look at the deal again: promising a value of $50, the box would keep the "fluff" (their words) to a minimum with Funko partnering each time to deliver an exclusive figure. Joining at the Founders level would get you an 8" exclusive figure on your one-year ann

#LootCrate Review: August 2015

As August's Villains 2 box arrives, will fans support Loot Crate's new direction? Read on to find out! Review by Matt Cummings Loot Crate appears to be at a crossroads. Having turned in an impressive run of subscription boxes in March , April , May , and June , July proved the company isn't willing to keep sending us the same thing every month. The once staple crop of a t-shirt surrounded by lower-end stuff was recently replaced with a cool figure, a hardbound book, and a rad batarang that's quickly become the most used bottle opener in the house. Some fans (like our own SandwichJohn) are opting out, with others complaining that Loot's LevelUp program is sending shirts that don't arrive with their Crate and ultimately don't fit. August's box of VILLAINS 2 is more of the same, leaving me to wonder how long customer loyalty will last. Remember Loot's promise: a $22 subscription should yield more in value than the cost. Let's see

Adi Shankar's "In Service of Nothing" Bootleg PreViz

Adi Shankar releases another short film, this time starring James Bond. Story by Matt Cummings With SPECTRE releasing a character poster this week of a turtlenecked Daniel Craig, it actually wasn't the only piece of Bond-related news of note. Dredd producer Adi Shankar premiered another in his 'bootleg' short film series, which includes the ultra-violent (and ultra-awesome) Power/Rangers short . It was notorious booted off the web due to copyright issues, but soon found its way back, making an instant hit with over 13 million views. This time, he's tackled none other than James Bond in a 16-minute PreViz feature titled In Service of Nothing , directed by Tyler Gibb and produced by Shankar. From the way Gibb and Shankar portray Sean Connery (voiced by Christopher Gee), it's definitely reminiscent of a 60's Goldfinger style, that is until we fast-forward to an aged Bond reflected on his "past transgressions." Here, Bond is a man wi
