Seriously because UNDERWORLD AWAKENING is just straight up action and 3D and VFX, no more no less and I must admit, some of the sequences especially the part of Selene vs. one gigantic lycan, is mildly exciting, much thanks to the 3D, and of course if you’ve come to watch hottie Kate Beckinsale in tight pleather again, you won’t get disappointed, but other than that, this mother protecting daughter story hiding in some kind of ‘new war’ dilemma is a pointless fourth installment.. It’s not every day you can report that a vampire in a catsuit defeated several heroic World War II pilots, but this past weekend at the US Box Office, Kate Beckinsale and her seemingly unstoppable Underworld franchise saw off competition from George Lucas’ Red Tails to score the top spot. Underworld: Awakening , the fourth instalment in the goth-rocking Underworld franchise, will be upon us in the new year.  Here is a new poster, which interestingly sees Kate Beckinsale's selene ditching her usual look in favour of a twinset and pearls, and some sturdy orthopaedic shoes. The movie will be shot in 3-D. We've received no word yet if Underworld: Rise of the Lycans stars Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy and Rhona Mitra , or former franchise stars Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman will return for the next film.  We are told Seline (Beckinsale) will "pass the torch" to one of her kindred (yes, she has not one, but two daughters at this point). Back in February, we reported that the studio was pleased with the performance of the prequel that opened on January 23. The film was made for just $35 million and earned $91.1 million worldwide, not counting DVD and Blu-ray sales. UnderWorld 4 Gets It's Writer "The Shield" writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen the fourth installment in Screen Gems/Lakeshore's "Underworld" franchise. Len Wiseman, who directed the first two films in the vampire-vs.-werewolf saga, is producing with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg and Richard Wright of Lakeshore. Kate Beckinsale, who starred in the first two movies, has not cut a deal to return to the series; the third pic, a prequel, starred Rhona Mitra, who also has no deal. The fourth film does not have a director attached. Hlavin said the plot is under wraps, "but I can tell you it's not a prequel." He added, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements." The horror-action series has been successful for Screen Gems and Lakeshore, scaring up nearly $300 million
