BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Lionsgate Admits Mortdecai was a 'Disappointment'

Does the movie's failure point to a deeper problem for Johnny Depp? Story by Matt Cummings First there was Dark Shadows , then The Lone Ranger , then Transcendence . Now, Lionsgate is having to admit another of their Johnny Depp enterprises has fallen on hard times. Speaking to Variety, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer admitted has asserted that Johnny Depp’s caper comedy Mortdecai will be a “very manageable” loss for the studio despite its terrible box office performance. “It’s clearly a disappointment,” Feltheimer told analysts Friday during a company conference call to discuss earnings for its third quarter which ended on December 31. Mortdecai, which cost $60 million to make, has only generated $7 million since it launched on January 23. Internationally, it's added only $11 million. Although Feltheimer attempted to explain the loss with purely financial facts, the real question on everyone's mind was, "Is Johnny Depp no longer a bankable actor?"

Battlestar Galactica Movie Gets New Life

The project at Universal is apparently moving forward.  By: Matt Cummings If you caught the SyFy run of Battlestar Galactica , you were treated to something special. Complete with graying loyalties and intense action, the series followed a race of humans defeated by the technologically superior Cylons. The series brought a grittiness and unpredictability that kept fans watching right up to the lame series finale in 2007. Apparently, someone took notice. According to multiple sources, Universal is developing a film reboot of the series, and have hired Transcendence writer Jack Paglen to script the screenplay. Paglen is also involved in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel for Fox that starts production this fall.  Transcendence  starring Johnny Depp and Rebecca Hall opens on April 18th. Original Galactica creator Glen Larson will produce the reboot. While we're happy to see this happening in concept, we'll wait to hear about a director and cast before we render a j

April 2014 Movie(s) On Our Radar

Only One April Release Gets Our Full Attention. By: Matt Cummings  After a strong March which elevated three of our four 'radar' releases into the top 10, April arrives with only one guaranteed hit. Typically a dull month, April 2013 featured only one release ( Oblivion ) and 2012 had none. This year promises one that should challenge leaders The LEGO Movie and Ride Along : Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier . That's good or bad depending on how you look at it, with Hollywood essentially throwing all its eggs in Marvel's lap. But for now, we'll highlight a couple of others that might make a decent profit, but which should only bounce off Cap's vibranium shield: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4th)  Marvel - and its parent company Disney - are now the undisputed leader in Hollywood. The studio famous for Thor, Iron Man, and The Avengers releases the second Captain America film on a crest of both critical praise
