Witch Doctor , the first original comic published by Robert Kirkman’s Image Comics’ SKYBOUND imprint, will debut 29 June 2011. A preview edition will be featured at this weekend’s WonderCon 2011 in San Francisco. Witch Doctor is a medical horror comic from Brandon Seifert and Lukas Ketner, a pair of Alaskans currently based in Portland, Oregon. Walt Disney Pictures confirmed today to that James Franco and Mila Kunis have officially joined Oz, the Great and Powerful , A prequel to The Wizard of Oz is scheduled to be released in 2013. It will be directed by Spider-Man's Sam Raimi. James Franco , meanwhile, is set for an eclectic schedule, starring in the upcoming Rise of the Apes and Your Highness . MGM is finally in a position to bring Chucky back to life, with the horror reboot Child's Play heading into production. Child's Play first hit theaters in 1988, spawning the sequels Child's Play 2, Child's Play 3, Bride Of Chucky, and Seed of Chucky . The remake had been in development for several years, with a script already written by Don Mancini, who also wrote all the previous movies in the Chucky franchise. The hold-up on the remake was apparently due to rights issues by MGM and Universal. MGM has the rights to the original Child's Play, while Universal retained rights to the sequels. Apparently, a deal has been made between the two studios. Production is said to begin on the remake sometime later this year, with Brad Dourif returning to voice Chucky. This new project is said to be more of a reboot, with a darker tone and less comedic elements (what's more funny than a Cabbage Patch doll trying to kill a kid, though?). Looks like Snow White needs to go on the hunt for another Huntsman—at least for now. Viggo Mortensen , who has been in protracted negotiations for the part in Universal’s high-flying Snow White and the Huntsman picture, has fallen out of talks to join the project. The movie is one of several Snow White projects in active development—and, with star Kristen Stewart and other cast members locked, the one furthest out of the gate. Commercials helmer Rupert Sanders is making his directorial debut on the Joe Roth-produced pic, which has Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen.
