Battle: Los Angeles Movie Review By: SandwichJohn Going into the film I really didn't know much about it other than what I had seen in the trailers and what I know of the urban legend of the Battle of Los Angeles . The one thing I have to warn you about is the shaky camera work that is used in the film. So you have been warned. From the start of this movie I knew I was going to enjoy it. Once all the trailers are done being shown, the film starts and we are right in the Battle. We see that some kind of strange force has been taking over the world and their last stop on the ride is Los Angles. We are introduced to U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz played by Aaron Eckhart . The Staff Sergeant planned on turning in his paper after serving his 20 for his county. Only if life was perfect. In the background on the TV you can see the damage this strange force is causing the world. Battle: Los Angeles invaded the top spot with the second-biggest start of the year behind Rango , while Red Riding Hood lacked bite and Mars Needs Moms was a massive flop. All three movies generally played out according to what their respective genres prescribed. Overall business was down 12 percent from the same weekend last year, when Alice in Wonderland's reign continued. Battle: Los Angeles raked in $35.6 million on approximately 4,700 screens at 3,417 locations, boasting initial attendance that was a bit less than Black Hawk Down and Starship Troopers but slightly ahead of The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008). Its gross, though, was much greater than the entire run of the last Los Angeles-set, alien invasion movie Skyline, but that picture's abject failure was an aberration of the sub-genre, not the norm. Battle's start also trailed District 9's $37.4 million and Cloverfield's $40.1 million, and it, of course, didn't hold a candle to the likes of Inde

Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox have tapped Logan Marshall-Green to play a lead role in Prometheus , the science fiction film that Scott next directs. Marshall-Green will play the role of Holloway , a crewman on the space ship and the love interest for the character played by Noomi Rapace . Rapace, the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star, was the first castmember set by Scott. Marshall-Green most recently was seen in Devil and Brooklyn's Finest , and did stints on The O.C. and 24. He's repped by 3 Arts and Gersh. This was a role that a lot of young actors chased, and who wouldn't want to be involved in Scott's first sci-fi foray since Alien and Blade Runner? The film also stars Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron, with Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie playing smaller roles. There are no light bikes or flying discs, but there's still plenty fot the Tron: Legacy faithful to enjoy in this new short film, Tron: The Next Day , which has just surfaced online. Culled from the forthcoming DVD and Blu-Ray , it's a gap-bridging exercise filling in what happened at ENCOM in the years between the original film and Legacy, and charting the activities of the underground Flynn Lives movement. Summit is in negotiations to pick up Crosshair , an action comic book from Top Cow Prods. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman, riding high as part of the producing team behind the Oscar-winning boxing movie The Fighter , are attached as producers, while Morgan Foehl is attached as the writer. Crosshair is about a former CIA assassin who "faces his most dangerous enemy ever -- himself." After learning that in 48 hours a trigger in his brain will turn him into a mindless killer with the president of the U.S. as his target, he embarks on a mission to find out who did this to him and how he can stop it before it's too late. Last week I had the chance to have an Exclusive interview with Sebastian Gutierrez the director of ELEKTRA LUXX and Girl Walks Into a Bar . Also, the screenwriter for such films as The Big Bounce, The Eye, Snakes on a Plane and the above mentioned films. This is part one of a two part interview with the director. A little of back ground history on Sebastián Gutiérrez, he was born September 10, 1974 and is an award-winning Venezuelan-American film director, screenwriter, film producer and occasional actor. Is Eastbound & Down really ending after Season 3? Not so fast. "We’ve always imagined this thing as something that we would keep short and not give it a chance to get old," executive producer and star Danny McBride said to the audience at PaleyFest on Thursday night after revealing that the new season was most likely its last. So where does that leave HBO? Despite what was said by McBride and fellow executive producer Jody Hill, the series could very much go on past the show’s upcoming third season. There is interest from HBO to continue the half-hour comedy -- as long as McBride and Hill have more to say. The comedy has not been a breakout hit for the network in the vein of Boardwalk Empire, True Blood or Entourage, drawing 1.35 million viewers for its second season finale in November.
