BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Movie Review: #TheBelkoExperiment Welcome to @JamesGunn gore-fest!

Welcome to James Gunn's gore-fest! Rama returns. Will “ The Belko Experiment ” do to office setting workplace what “Jaws” did to swimming in the ocean? All joking aside, this R-rated gore-fest by James Gunn goes to prove that inside the mind of that dude who gave us Marvel’s “ Guardians Of The Galaxy ” is actually a hidden secret door that when you open it leads to all kinds of twisted imaginations. “The Belko Experiment” is gnarly. Directed by Greg McLean, scripted by James Gunn, the story focuses on about 80 Americans working in an non-profit corporate workplace in South America and they find themselves locked in their own building. An unknown voice form the intercom system forces them to engage in a deadly game of kill or be killed. Yes, you can describe it just as that one critic says that this is basically “Battle Royale” meets “Office Space,” it certainly throws “The Hunger Games” out the window. So essentially, the concept itself is not unique, I guess there’s a sic

Movie Review: #BEAUTYANDTHEBEAST Gorgeous!

Gorgeous! RAMA delivers another review. To say that Disney’s live action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST movie is better than the 1991 animated classic may be a bit of a stretch. But this is as dazzling, enchanting and marvelous as today’s digital visual effects can offer you. I think despite the obvious autotune effort, Emma Watson does a good job of carrying the legacy; portraying my favorite Disney princess ever, the most gorgeous bookworm in the land, Belle. This remake basically takes everything you loved about the previous version and makes it significantly seem more jubilant, like a big broadway celebration. Directed by Bill Condon, based on the 1991 animated film, the screenplay for this one is written by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopouous, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST comes to life in this cinematic journey of a bright independent young woman, Belle, who takes the place of her imprisoned father in a castle inhabited by the beast and his porcelain staff. In time, Belle befriends t

Movie Review: #BEFOREIFALL

It's like a TV movie you'd watch on channels like The CW RAMA delivers another review. The way to best describe “Before I Fall” is.. it’s as if The CW has their own Groundhog Day-esque TV movie. It does have twists and turns and its own interesting take on this overly used concept about a day that keeps inexplicably repeating itself again and again. But it really doesn’t get more of a teen drama than “Before I Fall” Zoey Deutch plays Samantha Kingston who seems to have it all, popular friends, popular boyfriend, Samantha’s even smart and very well-driven. The Valentine’s day is going well until the evening comes and a certain car crash happens that causes Samantha to relive the same day over and over again. She must then decide to figure out the mystery of why she’s stuck in that one single day and how she could make a difference in the lives of those around her. Kudos to rising star, Zoey Deutch, I think she does a fine job of carrying this movie as the lead, she

Movie Review: #ACUREFORWELLNESS

Acquired taste By: April Meneghetti Gore Verbinski, the man who gave us the first “Ring” movie, the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, “Rango,” and “The Lone Ranger” is now back with this Hitchcockian gothic psychological thriller designed to keep you guessing till the very end. Even though its final 20 minutes somewhat go off the rails a bit, overall A CURE FOR WELLNESS is stunning, bold and hypnotic. Dane DeHaan plays an ambitious young executive, Lockhart, sent to retrieve his company’s missing CEO who’s decided to stay at a remote wellness center in the Swiss Alps. What is supposed to be an easy assignment turns into a journey of slowly but surely uncovering the center’s dark past, uncovering the real reasons as to why the guests keep staying there, longing for the cure, as Lockhart himself starts to question his own sanity. You will fall in love with the cinematography by DP Bojan Bazelli. Even if you’re not a fan of mystery or suspense, Bazelli’s cinematography for

Movie Review: #MonsterTrucks

Super fun! Rama is back. “Monster Trucks” is one of those movies where you may not start out having much expectation about it but boy it proves you wrong. It’s just a good old fashioned super fun action adventure that the entire family can enjoy. The concept may be a bit quirky, I admit, but if the kids laugh and they smile and their parents giggle, I think it’s fair to say that “Monster Trucks” does exactly what it’s supposed to do. Directed by the guy who gave us “Ice Age,” “Robots,” and “Epic,” “Monster Trucks” is about a high school senior named Tripp (Lucas Till) who builds his own truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. A nearby oil-drilling site’s accident causes subterranean creatures to surface, two get caught by the greedy corporation while one escapes to the junkyard where Tripp works. Tripp encounters the new friend, names him Creech and turns out, Creech has the need for speed. I think “Monster Trucks” is the most exciting and hilarious feel-good family m

Movie Review: #OfficeXmasParty Fun, but not funny!

Fun, but not funny! Let's see what RAMA thought about the movie. OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY had its fun moments, but as far as jokes go, they feel like a bunch of rejected material from an understudy third-rate stand up comic. But that’s how it usually is with party movies, they’d get extra creative when it comes to pulling off the craziest wildest extravaganza, but often falls short in its attempt on humor. Jennifer Aniston plays a tough as nails Ebenezer Scrooge-like CEO who tries to shut down her brother’s (T.J. Miller) branch, she demands budget and employee cut. But her brother and his Chief Technical Officer (Jason Bateman) come up with a plan to not only score their biggest contract but also the biggest office Christmas party, in hopes that at the end nobody in their company would have to be fired. Co-starring Kate McKinnon, Olivia Munn, Jillian Bell, Rob Corddry, Vanessa Bayer, Randall Park, Sam Richardson, Jamie Chung, and Courtney B. Vance. Party movies, they’re

Movie Review: #MOANA Enjoyable!

Enjoyable! But it's way too Disney Rama is here again with another review. If there’s such a crime for being too Disney, MOANA would be guilty of it. Now, before you attack me with torches and pitchforks, let me say that I enjoy this film, but in the traditional Disney animation sense, it really doesn’t get more generic or more formulaic than MOANA. Directed by the team who gave us “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “Hercules,” and “The Princess And The Frog,” Ron Clements and John Musker this time take us to the islands of oceania, across the vast pacific where a teenager named Moana, wonderfully voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, dreams of voyaging across the open sea, just like her people’s ancestors did. Her father however, the head chief, doesn’t want that for his daughter, he wants her safe. But under the guidance of her late grandmother, Moana decides to venture off in order to find the demigod Maui, voiced by Dwayne Johnson, who years ago stole a certain object tha

Movie Review: BAD SANTA 2 Movie Is F**king hilarious!

F**king hilarious! Rama is back. Pardon my French but BAD SANTA 2 is f**king hilarious! As a fan of the first film who had been waiting for more than a decade, this sequel is every bit as funny as I expected it to be. Billy Bob Thornton is back in his not-giving-a-sh*t attitude, Tony Cox cusses up a storm like a maestro, and Kathy Bates is downright irreverent. There’s a certain irresistible appeal that comes with being unapologetic and that’s what BAD SANTA 2 gives ya! Billy Bob Thornton returns as the nasty drunken loser Willie Soke who once again teams up with his angry little sidekick Marcus, played by Tony Cox. This time, their heist target is a charity organization in Chicago, run by the curvaceous Diane (Christina Hendricks) who seems decent from the outside but can actually be horny at times. That place is also where Willie discovers that his mom, Sunny Soke, (Kathy Bates) is actually the brain behind this little criminal operation of theirs. Let’s just say that t

Movie Review: #ALMOSTCHRISTMAS So much fun!

So much fun! Guess who's back with another review. RAMA delivers another great review. I love ALMOST CHRISTMAS . It’s a family holiday movie that goes straight for the heart. So much fun! So much energy! Great cast ensemble too, some of the most hilarious people in the business, how can you not be entertained by these excellent, excellent people! They make you feel so welcomed, like you can hang out with them because you know you’ll best buds immediately. From the mind of writer/director David E. Talbert, ALMOST CHRISTMAS is about a family who gets together for Christmas after the death of their mother. The patriarch (Danny Glover) is still heartbroken from the loss but hopes that these five days will be a chance for them to cherish each other once more as they honor her memories. The problem is, like any other family, they just can’t seem to get along. I have a soft spot for Christmas movies, there’s something about this festive season that just hits all the right note

Movie Review: #BLEEDFORTHIS

This ain't no Rocky! Rama is back. The problem with BLEED FOR THIS is that the true story behind it is way more fascinating than the film itself which unfortunately doesn’t get to be anything more than mundane. After having seen countless other comeback underdog themed films in the past, BLEED FOR THIS just seems so uninspired. Miles Teller plays Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza, a boxer who shot to stardom after winning 2 world title fights. He’s at the top of his game. But a near fatal car crash leaves him with spinal injury so bad the doctors think he may never walk again. But with the help of stubbornness and his trainer, Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart), Vinny proves everybody wrong and not only does he get to walk again, he ultimately returns to the ring and reclaims his title belt. It’s been deemed as one of the most incredible comebacks in sports history. As I said earlier, the true story of Vinny and how he defied all odds is fascinating, I mean the guy actuall

Movie Review: LOVING Uplifting, Beautiful, & Heartfelt. #ThisIsLoving

LOVING  is an uplifting, important film that will be cherished for generations. Both Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga disappear in their characters, among the most deeply-affecting performances this year. And writer/director Jeff Nichols once again proves his storytelling prowess. Rama is back again. Based on the true story of interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving who were punished by law and ultimately banished from their hometown for getting married. They spent the next nine years fighting for their right to raise their family there. It’s a case that went all the way to the supreme court and resulted in the landmark civil rights decision invalidating any laws that prohibit interracial marriage. What I’ve always admired about writer/director Jeff Nichols is that he’s more interested in the human factor. Even when his film could be about mystery adventure like “Midnight Special,” the focus remains centered around how two or three characters affect each other. The same

Movie Review: THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN

THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN does for this generation what John Hughes’ movies did for the ‘80s and what “She’s All That” did for the ‘90s RAMA comes through with another great review. THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN does for this generation what John Hughes’ movies did for the ‘80s and what “She’s All That” did for the ‘90s. This movie is so funny, you may end up rolling on the floor literally. Hailee Steinfeld nails those awkward teenage years spot on. And so clear your plans this weekend to make room for THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN marks the feature directorial debut of writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig who superbly wrote this wonderful hilarious coming-of-age story that’s candid and unadulterated. Hailee Steinfeld plays high school junior named Nadine who’s already having a hard time with awkwardness and fitting in but things get even tougher when her best friend, Krista (Haley Lu Richardson) starts dating her older brother, Darian (Blake Jenner). Feeling more alone than

Movie Review: AMERICAN PASTORAL

Not as solid as it should be RAMA is back. Ewan McGregor ’s feature directorial debut, AMERICAN PASTORAL , is a decent effort at best, but at the end of the day, this feels more fitting as television series on HBO rather than a movie. This is a film that has enough shocker in its dialogue to create further conversations but you can’t help feeling that so many things were left out that should’ve been kept instead. Based on Philip Roth’s novel, scripted by John Romano, the story is set in 1968 where Ewan McGregor’s character, a hardworking man named Seymour, witnesses his middle class life fall apart as the community is stricken by racial tension and his daughter, Merry (Dakota Fanning) gets influenced by radical political views that threatens to destroy their family. For a book that was published in the ‘90s and a story that’s set in the ‘60s, Philip Roth’s AMERICAN PASTORAL sure resonates with today’s societal and political climate, especially the anger and the hatred that y

Movie Review: OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL

OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL  is super creepy. And it has good amount of well-placed jump-scares to rattle even the toughest audiences. As a horror fan, I definitely enjoy this installment way better than its predecessor. RAMA delivers another review. This is actually a prequel to the 2014 film, so they’re taking this story back to the beginning; how it all started, with the same house but 50 years earlier. Elizabeth Reaser is a single mom raising her two daughters played by Annalise Basso and Lulu Wilson. They run a seance scam business to make a living but when they unwittingly invite an evil spirit into their home which then possesses the youngest daughter, this becomes the struggle to save her and drive the demon away. There’s so much to like about OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL. Well, for one, it’s set in the ‘60s, so that in and of itself provides a very interesting style in terms of the actors’ outfit and hair, it’s like watching ‘Mad Men’ all over again, I’ll never get over how much

Movie Review: BRIDGET JONES'S BABY Bridget Jones Delivers

Bridget Jones delivers  Rama is back with another review. YES! Bridget Jones delivers (see what I did there) once more! Keeping true to its predecessors, Bridget Jones gives us new aspirations for a perfect love story. Its recipe of romance mixed with a touch of vulgarity, proves modern with all the gushy feelings of a classic! McDreamy and Darcy, festivals, flowers, and f bombs: It’s both outrageous and entirely relatable. Emma Thompsons dead-pan OBG-YN portrayal is a welcomed fresh new character. Is there anything this woman cannot play? No. The minimalistic approach proves perfect. I mean, when playing a vagina doctor, really, just let the reality of womanhood do the work. It’s already simultaneously depressing and hilarious. Thompson shines with every monotone line! Perhaps the only set back would be Dempsey as Jack. Not that Dr. Shepherd is necessarily bad, it just didn’t feel as natural. Even so, he still more than managed to add laughter and chaos. The story ha

Movie Review: #GLEASONMOVIE Review. Most Incredibly Moving Documentary Film.

Incredibly moving. RAMA delivers another great review. GLEASON is one of the most incredibly moving documentary films I’ve ever seen. A powerful tale of family and unconditional love. It’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. An absolute must-see. Directed by Clay Tweel, GLEASON is about former NFL athlete; former New Orleans Saints hero/defensive back, Steve Gleason who got diagnosed with ALS and weeks shortly after that, he and his wife, Michel, are pregnant with their first child. The film chronicles the tumultuous years struggling through Steve’s declining physical condition all the while trying to keep it together for their son, Rivers. It’s an intimate portrait of what it feels like to be living with a loved one suffering from this disease, most other spouses would give up, but there’s something strong and inspiring about Steve and Michel’s marriage and parenthood. I had the privilege of interviewing Steve’s wife, Michel about her experiences not just with
