Damon Lindelof's HBO drama The Leftovers has its first full-length trailer. Bits and pieces have been doled out about the series via atmospheric teasers, but the latest footage -- debuting before Sunday's Game of Thrones -- offers a more complete look at the postapocalyptic series. Based on the Tom Perrotta novel, The Leftovers begins three years after 2 percent of the Earth's population disappears without explanation (aka the Rapture ) and focuses on the people who didn't make the cut, living in a changed world. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is heading to TV full-time. HBO has picked up to series Ballers, the dramedy starring the Pain & Gain alum, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Half-hour comedy Ballers examines the lives of a group of former and current football players. The comedy hails from Stephen Levinson (Entourage), who penned the script and executive produces alongside Mark Wahlberg, Johnson, Hiram Garcia, Evan Reilly and Peter Berg , the latter of whom will direct the pilot. Dany Garcia is on board as a co-EP. HBO is producing the series with Wahlberg's Closest to the Hole Productions, Levinson's Leverage Entertainment and White Buffalo Entertainment. True Detective is written by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Fukunaga. It centers on two detectives, Rust Cohle ( Matthew McConaughey ) and Martin Hart ( Woody Harrelson ), whose lives collide and entwine during a seventeen-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana. The investigation of a bizarre murder in 1995 is framed and interlaced with testimony from the detectives in 2012, when the case has been reopened. The show's premise has Louisiana 'tecs Rust Cohle ( McConaughey ) and Martin Hart ( Harrelson ) scouring the state for a serial killer on the loose. And he's been on the loose for some time. The case relates to a strange, unsolved murder dating back to 1995 and it's been reopened, leaving the pair of lawman to follow up some long-cold leads. Aside from boasting a pair of actors at the top of their game, HBO's crime drama looks sure to delve into some pretty dark terrain. America, are you ready for more Kenny Powers ? HBO has ordered eight more episodes of the cult fave Eastbound & Down that stars Danny McBride , EW has confirmed. That’s an abrupt about-face from what the actor and his producing partners — Jody Hill, Will Ferrell, Chris Henchy and Adam McKay — were saying earlier this year, when the show finished its spring run. “HBO definitely wants us, and [co-creator] Jody Hill and I love writing for the show,” McBride told EW earlier this year. “But there is other stuff we’d like to do. Both of us are ready to make jokes concerning people who don’t have strange haircuts.” Obviously, HBO managed to persuade the boys that Powers needs to stage a comeback. The third season wrapped with the Major League pitcher appearing to be dead — until he showed up at the doorstep of April Buchanon, played by Katy Mixon. It’s clearly the day that HBO has decided is most auspicious for announcing new comedy pilots. Hot on the heels of news about Paul Feig directing Goldie Hawn in T he Viagra Diaries comes word that Ben Stiller has jumped aboard to star, direct, executive produce and run the electrical department* for All Talk . Novelist Jonathan Safran Foer cooked up the concept and has written the script for the pilot, which will follow the daily dramas of a Jewish family in Washington, DC. Foer, whose book Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close is currently on screen in the US with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock starring, has labelled the show “politically, religiously, culturally, intellectually and sexually irreverent.” To add that little bit of extra class, Stiller’s Tower Heist co-star Alan Alda (already a telly legend thanks to the likes of M*A*S*H, ER and The West Wing) is in talks to co-star. In their latest collaboration, director Spike Lee and writer John Ridley have teamed for an HBO biopic of Marion Barry , with Eddie Murphy attached to play the larger-then-life former Washington D.C. mayor. The HBO Films project, first reported by the Washington Post, is currently in development. Ridley is writing the script based on several pieces of source material, including the 1994 book Dream City by D.C. journalists Harry Jaffe and Tom Sherwood, who will serve as consultants. Lee is on board to direct. The two are executive producing with Murphy. HBO previously developed a Marion Barry biopic a decade ago with Jamie Foxx attached to star and Chris Rock to executive produce, but the project didn’t go forward. Barry, currently a member of the Council of the District Of Columbia, did two terms as a mayor of D.C., from 1979-91 and 1995-99, separated by a six-month stint in federal prison on drug charges that stems from a video of him smoking crack cocaine. HBO is stepping into the the boxing ring with Mike Tyson , Spike Lee and Doug Ellin . The premium cable network has ordered a pilot for Da Brick , a boxing drama project loosely based on former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson’s early life in the ring. The project hails from Tyson, along with Lee, L.A. Riots' John Ridley, Entourage creator Ellin and his producing partner Jim Lefkowitz. Lee is set to direct with Ridley on board to write and serve as showrunner. It will be set in Newark, N.J., which is often dubbed "Brick City." Much as Entourage was inspired by producer Mark Wahlberg's life, Da Brick will reflect aspects of Tyson's upbringing. It marks the latest in a string of Hollywood projects for Tyson, who has turned up in the Hangover franchise as well as Animal Planet's Taking on Tyson. Fight Club writer Jim Uhls has been tapped to write Trent Reznor ’s HBO/BBC Worldwide Productions miniseries  Year Zero . Based on the 2007 album by Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails , the concept recording criticizes the U.S. government -- specifically the Bush years -- and presents a dystopian vision of the year 2022. Reznor has already adapted the album into an alternate reality game. Reznor most recently picked up the Academy Award for penning the original score, with Atticus Ross, to Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Network . He also composed the score for Sorkin’s upcoming adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo . The epic sci-fi miniseries is a co-production of HBO and BBC Worldwide Productions. HBO Sports has picked up the Peter Berg -produced docuseries about famed boxing trainer Freddie Roach .The premium cable net has ordered six episodes of On Freddie Roach , with an eye toward an early 2012 bow. Berg (Friday Night Lights) will direct and produce the series along with Jim Lampley, Sarah Aubrey and Michael Price. Olivia Munn has found life after Perfect Couples' cancellation: the actress has joined the cast of Aaron Sorkin's cable news drama at HBO. The project, tentatively titled More as the Story Develops , revolves around Will ( Jeff Daniels ), the co-anchor of a cable news show who must contend with a new team after his fellow host lands a new gig and takes most of his staff with him. Munn will play Sloan, one of the "new breed" of sexy financial analysts with a show on Will's network. Daniels’ role was originally written as a fortysomething and marks his first regular series TV gig. Is Eastbound & Down really ending after Season 3? Not so fast. "We’ve always imagined this thing as something that we would keep short and not give it a chance to get old," executive producer and star Danny McBride said to the audience at PaleyFest on Thursday night after revealing that the new season was most likely its last. So where does that leave HBO? Despite what was said by McBride and fellow executive producer Jody Hill, the series could very much go on past the show’s upcoming third season. There is interest from HBO to continue the half-hour comedy -- as long as McBride and Hill have more to say. The comedy has not been a breakout hit for the network in the vein of Boardwalk Empire, True Blood or Entourage, drawing 1.35 million viewers for its second season finale in November.
