BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Movie Review: THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL

Another round of old Brits in India. Plus an American this time I guess I just have a soft spot for cliched, generic charming movies like this sequel, I tend to overlook its flaws when it’s outweighed by the film’s stellar performances and wonderful themes, but this doesn’t happen all the time, THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL does feel like second rate in almost all of its aspects, but whenever the great Judi Dench and the great Maggie Smith take the screen and do their thing, all those other weak links seem to fade away. If you were a fan of the first film, you might want to take your expectation down a notch just a tiny bit just so you don’t yourself up for disappointment, only because screenwriter Ol Parker basically imagined what the next chapter would be like and he focused it on Sonny’s (Dev Patel) engagement and upcoming wedding with the beautiful Sunaina (Tina Desai) The Marigold hotel is doing well, the elderly residents seem content and happy but they all have

Can #Therock Save #DREDD? Adi Shankar Breaks Down How A Movie Is Made.

Trying to figure out how to get your movie made? Well, just pull up a chair and watch the above video, in which Adi Shankar — the wunderkind producer behind that recent (and very controversial) Power/Rangers video — provides a gritty explanation of the world of independent film financing. Shankar was just 26 when he had his first breakthrough hit with 2011’s Liam Neeson-versus-wolves movie The Grey . But what gives him even more nerd street-cred is his role as the executive producer of 2012’s Dredd, the big screen reboot of Judge Dredd , the Sylvester Stallone-as-futuristic-cop flick from 1995. Dredd was a major bomb at the box office, making only $35 million worldwide. But it has since become a cult hit amongst the Reddit crowd, who are clamoring for a sequel. Taking advantage of his recent spate of press attention, Shankar — who dresses like he lives inside his own The Crow fan film — recorded a video inside his poorly lit office to explain why a follow-up to the Karl Urban-s

Movie Review: Chappie

Chappie is crappy. Review by Matt Cummings Director Neill Blomkamp has been charged with returning the Alien franchise back to James Cameron glory, but until then he's got another futuristic story to tell on Earth. Unfortunately saddled with an over-sexualized oddity that gets in the way of a potentially interesting story, Chappie is crushed under its own weight of random comedy, poor character development, and extremely bad haircuts. The ultra-violent world of Johannesburg, South Africa is the stage for Blomkamp's latest, as robot police officers have taken over, leaving the city nearly crime free. But one robot - the oft-repaired Scout 22 - returns to the facility shot and dead to rights. When it's determined that its battery has been fused and can't be repaired, it's sent to the scrap, until its designer Deon (Dev Patel) rescues it. Already a success in developing the Scouts, he's working on an AI program hat would allow them to experience

Diablo Cody To Write The Barbie Movie

Sony Pictures has set Diablo Cody to write the next draft of Barbie , the live-action film based on Mattel’s top-selling fashion doll that the studio believes will anchor a global film franchise. The studio made a deal awhile back with Mattel and Parkes+MacDonald/Image Nation for the comedy, and had Jenny Bicks write the first draft. Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald are producing, and they recently invited Amy Pascal to join them. The spirit of the doll is all about female empowerment, and Cody is a famous example of someone who pulled herself up to become the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Juno . But Barbie is also somewhat squeaky clean in her image, and Cody’s rags-to-riches story famously starts with her working as a stripper, and then writing a blog about her life which led to her breaking into the ranks of A-list screenwriters. Her work from Jennifer’s Body to the Jason Reitman-directed Young Adult to her directing debut Paradise were all edgy efforts. The producers and

Dan Stevens Joins Luke Evans & Emma Watson In "Beauty"

Dan Stevens , the breakout actor of Downton Abbey and last year's cult action movie The Guest , is in negotiations to play the Beast/Prince in Disney's live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast , The Hollywood Reporter is reporting. Stevens will join Emma Watson , who is playing Belle, the "Beauty" in the title, while Luke Evans is in talks to play the vain villain Gaston. Bill Condon is directing what is turning out so far to be an all-British cast production while David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman are producing. Beauty continues Disney's plan of taking some of its animated classics and brushing them up for a 21st century live-action makeover. Cinderella, which also features mostly British leads, is the latest — it opens March 13 — and it's generating great reviews. Last year's Maleficent was a live-action take on Sleeping Beauty and made $758.4 million worldwide. Beauty, a French fairy tale, tells of a young woman who takes her father
