TV Review: Z Nation “Puppies & Kittens” (Pilot) By: Brandon Wolfe Given ‘ The Walking Dead’s ’ present status as the most popular series in all of television, it was bound to spawn some imitators sooner or later. The only surprise is that it’s taken this long for a true rip-off to emerge. ‘ Z Nation ’ is the SyFy Channel’s spare-every-expense answer to the AMC phenomenon. Spearheaded by The Asylum, the brain-trust behind the ‘Sharknado’ films, ‘Z Nation’ also centers around a world plunged into a zombie apocalypse and the survivors struggling to get by. ‘The Walking Dead’ has a lot of problems as a series, many critical and seemingly in no great hurry to be resolved. After sampling ‘Z Nation,’ these problems maybe don’t seem so bad. The ways in which ‘Z Nation’ is similar to ‘The Walking Dead’ are so myriad that it will be easier to delve into the handful of ways in which the two shows differ. There was some talk recently that Batman's ex-Robin Nightwing might be joining the ranks of The CW's successful Arrow series. That turns out to be unfounded, since Nightwing is getting his own show on TNT. Bruce Wayne's young ward Dick Grayson will front the young super friends of new series Titans . This would be a version of the Teen Titans , although the "teen" part of that title is being ditched to indicate the show's more mature approach. The pilot episode will see Grayson "emerge from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new superheroes including Starfire, Raven and many others". Theo James will be going back to Underworld . The Divergent actor is attached as the lead in the fifth film in the vampire action franchise, which Lakeshore Entertainment is currently developing. James , who played a vampire named David in 2013's Underworld: Awakening , will be the central character in the new film, which is not a reboot but rather an expansion of the existing universe. Sources say there was an option on James because of his work on the previous film, and he'll star opposite two new female characters. Casting is underway for those roles, with plans to start shooting in the spring. Cory Goodman has been hired to write the script, as The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported. James' star has risen significantly since he appeared in Underworld: Awakening because of his lead role in YA franchise Divergent. Nearly 20 years after Married … With Children ended its run, Bud Bundy could be returning to TV. The series that rocketed leads Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate and David Faustino to stardom could see some members of the dysfunctional Bundy clan back on the small screen with a TV spinoff in the works at Sony Pictures Television, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. As first reported by E!, the studio that produced the Fox series is taking out a pitch for a follow-up to Married … With Children based on Faustino's Bud Bundy. It's unclear which, if any, other castmembers would be involved in the potential spinoff. Fox re-aired the pilot in 2012 as part of the series' 25th anniversary. Thus far, Zack Snyder and his Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice team have done their best to get out ahead of spy snoopers and set snappers to put some of the more central imagery – Ben Affleck’s Batman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman – online officially in decent lighting.
