For a long time Star Wars fans have been clamoring for Disney/Lucasfilm to re-release the original, unaltered cut of the first Star Wars trilogy, and Comicbook.com  has now confirmed with two independent reliable sources that just such a plan is under way. According to our sources, Disney has plans to release the original cut of the Star Wars trilogy on Blu-ray. Our sources indicate that the project has been under way for quite some time, but it’s been challenging because of some damage to the original negatives they are utilizing. The goal is to release A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of Jedi in their complete, unaltered, original form without the redone special edition SFX. Our sources did not have an exact date as to when the original cut of the Star Wars Trilogy would be released on Blu-ray, due to the challenges Disney has encountered in pulling everything together. Lionsgate and Millennium Films' The Expendables 3 opened to a muted $875,000 Thursday night from more than 2,200 locations. While on par with the $870,000 earned by The Expendables and ahead of the $685,000 grossed by the sequel, the threequel rolled out at 7 p.m., compared to midnight for the first two films. To boot, The Weinstein Co. and Walden Media's new YA film adaptation The Giver wasn't far behind, pulling in $750,000. I’ve never read the book yet, so I’m not the millions who say that THE GIVER is one of their childhood favorite but as a movie, I just don’t see anything special about it. The story or the concept may be special and unique or groundbreaking when it first hit the shelves, but to have it now, in a sea of other dystopian utopia formulaic young adult stories like it, THE GIVER just seems too late, too familiar, and too flat, there’s nothing extraordinary about this film, which is heartbreaking considering I’m a huge fan of director Phillip Noyce’s ‘Jack Ryan’ movies and that THE GIVER also showcases such greats as Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep , but even they can’t help this ship from sinking.
