TV Review: The Leftovers “Guest” By: Brandon Wolfe Nora Durst ( Carrie Coon ) has flitted around the edges of ‘The Leftovers’ for awhile now. The brother of the troubled (said as though anyone on this show isn’t) Reverend Matt Jamison, Nora had the rare distinction of losing her entire family in the Departure. If that wasn’t enough, her brother took it upon himself recently to reveal to Nora that her husband had been carrying on an affair with their children’s preschool teacher prior to being taken. On this ceaseless downer of a series, an episode all about Nora didn’t seem like it would help matters, yet “Guest” is the best episode of ‘The Leftovers’ produced as of yet. It proves engaging in a way that this series usually struggles to achieve. Similar to the show’s previous character showcase, the less successful (but still superior by ‘Leftovers’ standards) Rev. Paul Feig is being courted to direct and produce a “ Ghostbusters ” comedy reboot. Feig is not helming “ Ghostbusters 3 ″ or another sequel, in any sense of the word, as has been incorrectly reported. The movie is a total reboot most likely with female characters played by comedic actresses in the ghostbusting roles, according to sources. The script will be written from scratch. Feig, who is best known for helming the comedy hits “Bridesmaids” and “The Heat,” has been in conversation with Sony to direct the project. However, no formal negotiations have taken place yet. Sony declined to comment. Feig is also re-teaming with Melissa McCarthy to direct her latest comedy “Spy,” which is slated for a Memorial Day 2015 release. As rumors swirl regarding the second season of HBO's “ True Detective ,” Taylor Kitsch has been offered the lead in Screen Gems’ English-language remake of “ The Raid ,” multiple individuals familiar with the project have told TheWrap . While Kitsch's team has been pushing HBO and “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto to cast him as the young male lead of the second season, they've been positioning him for “The Raid” remake in the meantime. Patrick Hughes (“The Expendables 3”) is directing the action movie, which is gearing up for a January 2015 shoot. Coincidentally, that is when the second season of “True Detective” is slated to wrap filming. While two sources told TheWrap that Kitsch is in negotiations for “The Raid,” one cautioned that the two sides remain apart on financial terms of the proposed deal. Though the progress of its rebooted and ever-expanding Spider-Man universe isn’t moving forward as it might like, with road bumps such as having to move The Amazing Spider-Man 3 from 2016 into 2018, Sony appears ready to head off in interesting directions. Deadline is reporting that the studio is figuring out a film featuring a female lead superhero for 2017. No details have been announced about who might be the focus of such a story, only that Burn Notice veteran Lisa Joy , who is working on the new Westworld HBO series with husband Jonathan Nolan , has been hired to write a script by producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Speculation will naturally gear up now as to which of the Spider-Universe’s characters will get her shot at a solo film, with possibilities including Silver Sable, Firestarter and Spider-Woman .
