Sony Planning Female SuperHero Film In 2017

Though the progress of its rebooted and ever-expanding Spider-Man universe isn’t moving forward as it might like, with road bumps such as having to move The Amazing Spider-Man 3 from 2016 into 2018, Sony appears ready to head off in interesting directions. Deadline is reporting that the studio is figuring out a film featuring a female lead superhero for 2017.

No details have been announced about who might be the focus of such a story, only that Burn Notice veteran Lisa Joy, who is working on the new Westworld HBO series with husband Jonathan Nolan, has been hired to write a script by producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Speculation will naturally gear up now as to which of the Spider-Universe’s characters will get her shot at a solo film, with possibilities including Silver Sable, Firestarter and Spider-Woman. Then, of course, there’s Black Cat, AKA Felicia Hardy, who was nodded to in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 with Felicity Jones’ character, but wasn’t actually established as a masked vigilante herself.

It would seem to be a good move for Sony, especially when other studios don’t have much in way of leading female superheroes on their cinematic roster – even with DC’s unveiling of Wonder Woman, she’ll be sharing screen time with Batman and Superman. Yet with the success of films like Lucy and news that Guardians Of The Galaxy’s audience made up of a higher percentage of female cinemagoers than any previous Marvel film, clearly there is a market.

As for the rest of the Spider-universe, Sony has Drew Goddard focused on a Sinister Six film for 2016, while Venom (which could be called Venome Carnage) remains floating in release limbo and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man hangs around until that aforementioned 2018 date.

Sex Tape Review: Overly Sexual, Rude, Vulgar, and Absolutely Hilarious

The raunchy Sex Tape will divide audiences and critics, but who cares? Sex Tape suggests a growing practice among loving partners: that of making a raunchy testament of their escapades for posterity. But what happens when that evidence gets seen by friends, neighbors, and even the mailman? This is the plot that pits Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) in an effort to secure every iPad gift Jay has given, his record company playlists being the envy of the recipients, but which has also inadvertently spread the video to every device. The reason for the act - termed in the movie as pulling "the full Lincoln " for its three-hour length - stems from the couple's non-existent social life, brought on by the constant demands of their children. The couple has a lot to lose: a burgeoning business relationship between Annie and Hank (Rob Lowe) could end if the iPad she's given to Hank exposes the video, and so the couple sets out to reclaim and wipe the incrim...

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert?

Winona Ryder- An "Alienation" Expert? We're halfway checked out for the holiday weekend, so let's end with bit of comedy. A litigious videogame player is calling Winona Ryder to testify as an expert in "alienation." Erik Estavillo has filed a $1 million lawsuit in California Superior Court against Activision Blizzard, publisher of "World of Warcraft," saying it "maintain(s) a harmful virtual environment to many of its customers by forcing them to follow the game's sneaky and deceitful practices." The plaintiff says he suffers from several mental health problems brought on by WoW's "alienating" features, such as forcing beginners to walk or run to get from one point to another instead of speedier options available to those who master the game or buy an expansion pack. Estavillo says that the slow pace is "deceitful" because more time = more subscription revenue for Activision. Here's where Winona Ryder comes...
