Now that he’s fully on board, director Denis Villeneuve is wasting no time making sure that thriller Prisoners finally makes the leap from in-development buzz project to fully functioning feature film. He’s now looking to get a recent collaborator aboard, with Jake Gyllenhaal in talks. Gyllenhaal and Villeneuve must’ve gotten along while they were shooting indie thriller An Enemy this year, as the director has targeted the actor to play a detective investigating the kidnapping of a young girl and her best friend in a small town. Gyllenhaal had apparently been considering the movie before he met Villeneuve, but hadn’t made a final decision. If he locks in a deal, Gyllenhaal will go up against Hugh Jackman, the distraught father of the girl, who takes matters into his own hands by kidnapping the man he thinks is responsible. Tom Hardy is in early talks to star in Everest for Sony Pictures. He will play George Mallory , the climber who tried three times in the 1920s to become the first man to scale the world’s highest mountain. Doug Liman will direct the film after he completes All You Need Is Kill at Warner Bros with Tom Cruise . An adaptation of Jeffrey Archer’s book Paths Of Glory, Everest has been adapted by Sheldon Turner (Up In The Air).
