It’s clearly the day that HBO has decided is most auspicious for announcing new comedy pilots. Hot on the heels of news about Paul Feig directing Goldie Hawn in T he Viagra Diaries comes word that Ben Stiller has jumped aboard to star, direct, executive produce and run the electrical department* for All Talk . Novelist Jonathan Safran Foer cooked up the concept and has written the script for the pilot, which will follow the daily dramas of a Jewish family in Washington, DC. Foer, whose book Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close is currently on screen in the US with Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock starring, has labelled the show “politically, religiously, culturally, intellectually and sexually irreverent.” To add that little bit of extra class, Stiller’s Tower Heist co-star Alan Alda (already a telly legend thanks to the likes of M*A*S*H, ER and The West Wing) is in talks to co-star. The Academy announced the nominations for the 84th annual Academy Awards on Tuesday. Nominees were announced by Jennifer Lawrence and Tom Sherak, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Helmer James Wan and New Line have selected Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson to star in horror pic " The Conjuring ." The two thesps are in final negotiations to star and Wan is on board to direct. Chad and Carey Hayes sold the original pitch. The project is inspired by the true-life story of the Perron family, who claimed they "lived among the dead" in the 1970s as spirits both friendly and sinister inhabited their Rhode Island farmhouse. Wilson's casting marks a reteaming with Wan, who directed him in the low-budget horror thriller " Insidious ," which also revolved a family living in a haunted house. Wilson was most recently seen in Paramount's "Young Adult." Farmiga is also no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in the Warner Bros. pic " Orphan ."
