BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

George Lucas To Retire

This was a new feeling for George Lucas . He made a movie about a plucky band of freedom fighters who battle an evil empire — a movie loaded with special effects like no one had seen before. Then he showed it to executives from all the Hollywood studios. And every one of them said, “Nope.” One studio’s executives didn’t even show up for the screening. “Isn’t this their job?” Lucas says, astonished. “Isn’t their job at least to see movies? It’s not like some Sundance kid coming in there and saying, ‘I’ve got this little movie — would you see it?’ If Steven (Spielberg) or I or Jim Cameron or Bob Zemeckis comes in there, and they say, ‘We don’t even want to bother to see it. . . .’ ” Lucas sighs. It’s true that the movie, “ Red Tails ,” is a biopic about the Tuskegee Airmen rather than a space opera starring the Skywalker clan. But the snub implied that Lucas’s pop-culture collateral — six “Star Wars” movies, four “Indiana Jones” movies, the effects shop Industrial Light and Magic and

Goosebumps Film May Have Found It's Writer

Darren Lemke is getting Goosebumps , closing a deal to write Columbia Pictures’ big-screen adaptation of children’s horror series. Neal Moritz and his Sony-based Original Films shingle are producing, as is Scholastic Entertainment's Deborah Forte. Columbia picked up the rights to the more than 50 books written by R.L. Stine in May 2008. The project has seen several writers on it, as the studio tries to crack the code for the story. Columbia is starting from page one with Lemke. The Goosebumps series is known for paying homage to classic sci-fi/horror movies such as Night of the Living Dead and Invasion of the Body Snatchers, as well as the twist endings of The Twilight Zone. Being kids books, they are also free of the usual horror tropes of blood and sex (but are spiced with laughs). The property, with it’s all-ages supernatural trappings, seems to fall into Lempke’s wheelhouse. The scribe,  wrote the spec script for Jack the Giant Killer , which comes out later this year

New Images From Tim Burton's Dark Shadows

It's Johnny Depp and Tim Burton's eighth collaboration, a big-budget film based on a TV show that no-one remembers (at least outside the US) and which features a motley crew of vampires, witches and supernatural weirdos. Dark Shadows , in other words, is a perfect subject for both star and director, and from these photos it looks like we can expect more of their particular brand of off-kilter charm. 1972-set film version. The story focuses on Barnabas Collins ( Depp ), who was transformed into a vampire by a jilted lover (Eva Green's witch Angelique) way back in the 1700s and buried. He's just been dug up, and attempts to reintegrate with his descendants, led by Michelle Pfeiffer's Elizabeth and Jonny Lee Miller's Roger - despite the fact that Angelique is still around and still not in a forgiving mood. Said screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith, "Tim and Johnny took a long time explaining exactly why it had to be 1972. 1969 was too early and 1973 was too

Abigail Spencer To Star In Joss Whedon's EYE

Postproduction on a Marvel superhero movie can be a gigantic endeavor full of special effects, reshoots, and intense promotional duties. Luckily, Joss Whedon seems to be weathering the workload just fine. Though he wrote and directed The Avengers , coming out in May, Whedon has already found the time to shoot a low-budget update of Much Ado About Nothing , and now actress Abigail Spencer (perhaps best known as Don Draper's former mistress Miss Farrell on Mad Men) says she's just signed on for a brand-new Whedon project. "His next movie, I start that next month," Spencer revealed to us at Saturday's Art of Elysium gala in Los Angeles. "It’s my first time [doing a project with Whedon], but I’ve always wanted to work with him. I’m so excited to do it." What can we expect from the secret project? Spencer promised that more details would be announced in the next week, but teased, "It’s the most romantic film in the history of time. It’s a supernatura

Watch the trailer after the Jump... Video: American Pie: Reunion trailer (MSN Exclusive) Actually, there’s not a lot here that’s truly offensive, aside from the concept of Jason Biggs’ Jim still being a chronic masturbator. Despite being seemingly happily married to Michelle (Alyson Hannigan), Jim can’t resist the chance to thrash one out when she’s in the bath, but is caught – in more ways than one – when his son arrives in the room. There’s one more little beat after that, but we won’t spoil it for you. Suffice to say, this is exactly what you’d expect from a new American Pie outing, and while it doesn’t exactly scream fresh and ne

Kate Winslet To Star In The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society

Kate Winslet is reuniting with two of her most dashing leading men — Leonardo DiCaprio and Kenneth Branagh . The Oscar-winning actress will work with DiCaprio this spring, promoting the spectacular 3D version of James Cameron’s Titantic, which was first released 15 years ago. Then she will work on a new movie with Branagh. She played Ophelia on Branagh’s screen version of Hamlet back in 1996. The two have remained friends, and now Branagh has recruited her to star in a film based on Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Burrows’s best-selling novel The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society , which will start filming in mid-March. Kate will play writer Juliet Ashton, who penned columns for a magazine during World War II. After the war, she is contacted by Channel Islander Dawsey Adams and, as their correspondence continues, the story unfolds of how a book society was established on Nazi-occupied Guernsey to fool curfew patrols. Branagh has been involved in the film’s pre-prod

Could Twilight Continue After Breaking Dawn?

Okay, okay… both sides calm down. Those whose fervent wish it is that Summit somehow finds a way to pump out more Twilight movies stop getting too excited and those who would rather wish the entire franchise got swallowed up in a black hole, never to return, put down your keyboards and quit writing strongly worded screeds on comment forums: as of right now, the Twilight franchise finishes with this year’s Breaking Dawn – Part 2 , and any future films are simply executive speculation. But when that executive is Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer, and he runs the company that just bought Twilight home Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million, he gets listened to. Mostly because he now has the power to make it happen and, as the head of a business that answers to shareholders, he needs to make that hefty acquisition pay off for them. “I'm anticipating Breaking Dawn – Part 2 being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office," said Feltheimer in a statement picked up by the LA Times.
