Captain America will be at Comic-Con. There’s been much made of the fact that Marvel Studios is not taking any movie down to the annual gathering of geeks and pop culture, although Marvel superheroes will get their due via a Columbia Pictures panel for The Amazing Spider-Man . It is confirmed that Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance will be there, too. But what of Captain America: The First Avenger, which opens July 22, right smack in the middle of Comic-Con's July 20-24 run? Well, there will be no panel, but Heat Vision has learned that, while details are still being worked out, Marvel and Paramount, which is distributing the film, are planning a military salute that would involving star Chris Evans and soldiers stationed in San Diego. Adam Sandler leads off a voice cast that includes Kevin James and Andy Samberg for Hotel Transylvania , a 3D family comedy from Sony Pictures Animation. Genndy Tartakovsky, the animator behind Samurai Jack, Star Wars: Clone Wars and Dexter's Laboratory, is directing the movie. Sandler is voicing Dracula in the tale, which makes the Transylvanian count not only an owner of a “five-stake” resort away from the human world but also an overprotective dad trying to shield his teenaged daughter. Disney has set a July 26, 2013 release date for Thor 2 . Marvel Studios, which is in production on the Joss Whedon-directed The Avengers , is making a full commitment to Thor 2 , with Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as the title hero. Marvel will need to hire a director for that film because, I've learned, Kenneth Branagh won't be returning as helmer. Branagh, who directed the first film and watched it gross $437 million worldwide with a few territories still playing out, will likely be involved in some producing capacity. His exit was "mutual and amicable," I'm told. That means a big job is out there that a lot of directors and their agents will be chasing over the upcoming holiday. Akiva Schaffer is directing the sci-fi comedy about a suburban "neighborhood watch" group that serves as a front for dads to get some male-bonding time away from their families.
