Movie Review: 'Triple 9'

The dark and of ugly world of Triple 9 tells us more than we probably want to know. Review by Matt Cummings For a person who finds himself loyal to our country's police forces, Triple 9 sends a scary and unfortunate truth: those who protect us sometimes get swept up in the world they try to protect us from. I just wish the hard action and duplicitous nature of its excellent leads would have amounted to something in the end. The city of Atlanta is not only filled with a bevy of undesirable gangs but a team of cops that are as corrupt as the people they hunt. At its center is a crack team led by Atwood (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and his partners Belmont (Anthony Mackie), Welch (Aaron Paul), his Special-Ops brother Russell (Norman Reedus), and the detective Rodriguez (Clifton Collins Jr.). Scoring heists in an attempt to free Atwood's son from the clutches of the Russian-Jew gangster Irina Vlaslov (Kate Winslet), the team are faced with a final, nearly impossible challenge

Movie Review: #THECHOICE Nicholas Sparks has done it again!

Nicholas Sparks has done it again! Rama is back with another review. THE CHOICE is everything you’d expect from a Nicholas Sparks adaptation. It’s a reach-for-the-kleenex textbook romantic drama for females everywhere many of whom have read Sparks’ books a thousand times over. Boy meets girl, but girl is meant to marry someone else, boy and girl are supposedly not in the same income bracket, and they live in small town U.S.A near a body of water, either lake or ocean. Benjamin Walker and Teresa Palmer's chemistry is endearing. Ladies man, Travis Shaw (Benjamin Walker) encounters and falls for a strong-willed medical student named Gabby Holland (Teresa Palmer). But Gabby already has a long-term boyfriend, and so “The Choice” chronicles the relationship between Travis and Gabby that would ultimately be tested by life’s most defining events. There’s not much to say about this really, because if you’ve seen other movies based on Nicholas Sparks’ books, you’ve pretty much

Movie Review: 'Point Break'

The visually appealing but illogical Point Break also lacks an emotional core. Review by Matt Cummings As a moviegoer, you probably have a unique relationship with 1991's Point Break . You either love it for the over-top-action by Director Kathryn Bigelow or your hate it for Actor Keanu Reeve's now famous 'brah' shtick. Regardless of what side of the fence you ride, it's clear that a remake probably wasn't at the top of anyone's Most Anticipated List. And while sports some of the best real-life action of the year, it fails miserably to set up a believable tale of extreme crime and our growing environmental crisis. Extreme sports dude Johnny Utah (Luke Bracey) quits the game for the FBI after his partner dies. Filled with guilt over the matter, he soon becomes entrenched in a series of extreme sports crimes, one that costs the United States millions of dollars when a money shipment over Mexico is compromised. But the team, headed by the

With his cast and crew in place, Mel Gibson is now rolling the cameras on his new directorial effort, returning to the wartime milieu that has served him well in the past.
