#Supergirl Gets Picked Up For 7 More Episodes

The network has ordered seven more episodes of the DC comics adaptation, bringing the show's freshman season to 20 episodes. Supergirl 's flight is far from over. CBS has ordered seven more episodes of the DC Comics adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The order brings Supergirl's freshman season to a total of 20 episodes. Although it's slightly less than the normal 22, the freshman drama debuted a month later than most other new fall offerings. Supergirl also requires more special effects than the average series. The network's sign of confidence comes a month after Supergirl launched to a 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 12.9 million viewers — making it the most-watched premiere of the fall season. The series also tied with NBC's Blindspot for the highest-rated debut of the fall. Supergirl is currently averaging a 2.8 rating. The series marked a big leap for CBS as the only comic book-inspired series on the network's slate. However,

TV Review: Supergirl "Pilot"

Superman's cousin makes capes fun again. Review by Brandon Wolfe We open on an extremely familiar scene. The planet Krypton is in the final throes of self-destruction and a tearful couple is placing their baby into a small spacecraft with promises of the child’s survival and prosperity on the distant world of Earth. The scene that comes directly after, however, is less familiar. A young girl is also being dispatched into the stars by her parents, with the explicit instructions to guard that baby in the new world. This is Kara Zor-El, the older cousin to this infant, whom our world will come to know as Superman. But Kara’s mission gets a two-decade layover right out of the gate when her pod gets trapped in the Phantom Zone. By the time Kara does make it to Earth, her cousin has already grown into his destiny and he’s the one who shepherds Kara into her new life, setting her up with an adoptive family of trusted scientists. Kara ultimately finds herself immersed in a thankless job

#SUPERGIRL Featurette "Meet Supergirl, A New Kind Of Hero"

SUPERGIRL premieres Monday, October 26 at 8:30 PM and then it goes to its regular time slot, Monday, November 2 at 8 PM In the vast DC Comics Universe of super heroes, the rich mythology of Superman, the planet Krypton and the House of El is perhaps the most famous and instantly recognizable. Enter Supergirl (Melissa Benoist). Born Kara Zor-El on the doomed planet Krypton, the preteen Kara escaped at the same time as the infant Kal-El, but didn’t arrive on Earth until many years later after being lost in the Phantom Zone. Protected and raised by her adopted family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to hide the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin. Years later, at age 24, living in National City and working as an assistant for Catco Worldwide Media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart), Kara has spent so many years trying to fit in that she forgot to ever stand out. All that changes when she decides to embrace her superhum

Fall 2015 Television Preview: CBS

We continue our look at the Fall television season by focusing on CBS's offerings. Story by Sue Lukenbaugh CBS let go of Battle Creek , The McCarthy's , The Mentalist , The Millers , Reckless , Stalker , Two and a Half Men , and Unforgettable . They also canceled CSI , but the long running show will get a send off in the form of a movie event. For the 2015 season, CBS has some good concepts for their shows this season, but either the execution is all wrong or the trailers are, with the exception of only one. There are a few stand outs though. Angel From Hell – THURSDAYS 930|830c THIS FALL Plot: Allison, a dermatologist, is organized and perfect, but her life is derailed when she meets brash, outspoken Amy, who claims to be her guardian angel in this irresistible comedy about an unlikely friendship. My Verdict: It's interesting, and even draws a few laughs. Allison's disbelief and Amy's craziness became tiresome in the long 5 minute preview. Ke

Stephen Amell Says He's Done With The Arrow Suit

We analyze Amell's comment and the revelation after the jump. WARNING: This story contains spoilers. Story by Matt Cummings As the CW's Arrow bowed out last week to end Season 3, a ton of questions were raised about what lies in store for Season 4, some of them causing quite the stir on the Interwebs. For one, the episode - titled, My Name is Oliver Queen - showed The Arrow (Stephen Amell) walking away from both the title of Ra's al Ghul and the League of Assassins as well as his hero persona. The episode felt like a series finale, as Queen/Arrow/the former Ras drove off into the sunset with long-time friend/now lover Felicity Smoke (Emily Bett Rickards). But questions remain. We know Arrow is returning next year with Amell, and with Damien Dahrk poised as the next bad guy Queen will take on, it shouldn't be too long before we see Oliver put on the green suit once again. But in doing so, that could undo all of the events of Season 3, in which t

Inside the Bucket Podcast #60

First Thoughts: 'Supergirl'

We weigh in on CBS' extended trailer. Story by Matt Cummings Ever since we first reported that CBS was developing a Supergirl series for their Fall lineup , our opinion (and that of most of the Internet) has been the same word - uneasiness. The idea wasn't bad and CBS' logic (at the time) seemed sound: bring the next baddest good guy they could find to the screen that wasn't named Superman. But in looking at the extended trailer below - which we announced yesterday - our concerns have moved far beyond uneasiness. See it for yourself, and see if your thoughts align with our own: From the beginning, it's clear that Producer Greg Berlanti ( Arrow , Flash ) is trying to capture the magic of Flash's memorable first season into a bottle he can replicate with any DC hero he desires. But the result looks cheap, melodramatic, and seems to return to many themes already echoed in other DC movies and television episodes. This isn't even the secon

#SUPERGIRL First Look

The new Supergirl costume feels very different—and in this case, that’s a good thing. See the entire suit after the Jump... Warner Bros. released the first shot of Melissa Benoist in costume for the new CBS series from Greg Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg. Gone are the days of the bright blue and red color scheme, as this Kara Zor-El appears to be taking a walk on the dark side—figuratively, of course. Also different from the costume Helen Slater donned in the ’80s is that Kara is showing off less skin now that her boots go above her knees and she appears to be wearing stockings underneath. And she certainly isn’t sporting the bare midriff Kara has often appeared with in the comics. The costume, designed by three-time Oscar winner Colleen Atwood, also feels very reminiscent of the texturized one Henry Cavill dons in Man of Steel, even down to the positioning of the cape. “In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into

Superman to Cameo on Supergirl

A casting call go out for The Man of Steel. Story by Matt Cummings With CW leading the way in the superhero television universe with Arrow and The Flash , it should come as no surprise that CBS made the decision to get into the mix by producing a Supergirl series. So many questions come to mind: will their be big moments in these episodes, with Kara Zor-El propping up buildings or flying, and does CBS have enough money and a desire to do it right? Say what you want about Melissa Benoist being hired as Kara and CBS' general decision to get into the orgy, one piece of news arrived today that's immediately worth mentioning. According to a casting report released by CBS, it appears that the Man of Steel himself will appear as either a cameo or straight-up character in the series. The following appears courtesy of Project Casting, and makes it clear that they're looking for a DC Comic Superhero “body double” with the subject line “Superman.” We are looking

Update: Supergirl to CBS

Superhero Fever Hits CBS Story by David Clark CBS has decided to dip into the DC Comics superhero franchise. CBS has a running order for a pilot of Supergirl . Given the successes of shows like Smallville and more recently Arrow and The Flash , it should come as no surprise that additional heroes are on the way to the small screen. The announcement of the show came a short time ago but Greg Berlanti, the producer of the new show, recently spoke at the Television Critics Association winter press tour about the progress being made towards the pilot production. In an interview, Berlanti mentioned that the casting is one of the primary focuses at this time. As with other superhero shows the main character is quite distinctive and Berlanti wants to make sure that the actress cast to play Supergirl is the perfect person for the job. Interestingly, important as it is to find the perfect actress, Berlanti made it sound like the pressure is growing to finish casting and get to

#Supergirl TV Show Coming To CBS

From Greg Berlanti, the show brings Superman's cousin to the small screen Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's another superhero coming to the small screen! CBS has given a series commitment to a one-hour drama project for “ Supergirl ,” based on characters from DC Comics, an individual familiar with the project told TheWrap on Friday. The drama, which will be written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti (“Green Lantern,” “Arrow,” “The Flash”) and Ali Adler (“Chuck,” “No Ordinary Family”), will follow the exploits of Kara Zor-El . Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she's been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. The character of Supergirl was previously portrayed by Helen Sla
