BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Could Marisa Tomei Play Aunt May In Upcoming #Spiderman Film?

Variety is reporting that Marisa Tomei is the choice to play Aunt May in the next installment of the “Spider-Man” franchise. Sony and Marvel had no comment on the casting. While insiders could not say where things stood in the deal-making process, they said an offer was made late last week for the Oscar-winning actress to join Tom Holland , who was recently tapped to play the webslinging superhero. Marvel and Sony recently hand-picked Holland to play Spider-Man after months of meetings and screen tests with eager young actors, in addition to selecting “Cop Car” helmer Jon Watts to direct the pic. The studios are still in the process of finding a writer to join Watts in the screenwriting process, but insiders explained that the top brass also wanted to lock down other actors who would appear in multiple films so schedules could be worked out before shooting commences next year. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal will produce the pic, and though Holland is expected to first appear in

The show ends with a review of Ted 2, but not bef

Tom Holland Is The New Spider-Man

Spider-Man 3.0 just got bitten. By Brandon Wolfe A new Spider-Man has been chosen. Tom Holland has been cast as Peter Parker in the upcoming Sony/Marvel joint production, which will be directed by Jon Watt. Holland emerged as the victor from a casting pool that also contained actors Asa Butterfield and Charlie Roe. The actor screen-tested twice, once with Robert Downey Jr and the other time with Chris Evans. Holland will appear with Evans in Captain America: Civil War , which is currently shooting. “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world,” said producer Amy Pascal. “With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” Watt got the directing gig after Ted Melfi ( St. Vincent ) and Jonathan Levine ( Warm Bodies ) removed themselves from contention. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige says, “We h

Inside the Bucket Podcast #60

This week's episode of Inside the Bucket is online! Revel in the digital mastery! This week on Inside the Bucket , Matt is joined by members of the television team, Sue and David, who think they own the show by interrupting Matt as often as possible! Bravely, Matt defends his position as engineer of the podcast, so look for witty banter and plenty of sexual innuendo, which have become hallmarks of the show. Also, they deliver the best movie and television news from our website SANDWICHJOHNFILMS.COM . Beginning with news, the trio discusses the leaked photos of Marvel's Crossbones and rage over the terrible Supergirl trailer before moving in to this week's Blu-ray releases and break down a surprising big box office weekend. Please check out these and many other stories which we've included below. After that, they go on their Rants and Raves, where they bitch and complain about all the things they're watching, following, and have their panties in a bind

Asa Butterfield In Talks for Spider-Man

Ender's game to join the MCU. By Brandon Wolfe Reported weeks ago as one of a handful of finalists for the role of the new Spider-Man , Ender’s Game star Asa Butterfield has entered early talks to portray Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War before headlining his own film for Sony. While Deadline states that other candidates are still “in the mix,” the 18-year-old Butterfield has emerged as the frontrunner to bring a dash of youthfulness into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where one expects he will be called “squirt” or “sport” by Tony Stark. Here Are The Candidates to Direct The New Spider-Man

Not a lot of winners caught in this web. By Brandon Wolfe The search for yet another Peter Parker is narrowing down for the Sony/Marvel reboot of Spider-Man and now the hunt for a new director has turned up a shortlist of candidates, according to Deadline . Reportedly, the pool that is being looked at includes Jonathan Levine ( 50/50 , Warm Bodies ), Ted Melfi ( St. Vincent ), Jason Moore ( Pitch Perfect ), John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (the upcoming Vacation ) and Jared Hess ( Napoleon Dynamite ). For those among us who groaned at Sony’s previous Spidey choice of Mark Webb, who only had the fizzily slight rom-com (500) Days of Summer under his belt before being handed the job, this list of similarly untested directors of lightweight comedies doesn’t inspire much in the way of enthusiasm. Perhaps a Spider-Man film doesn’t need a heavy-hitter director, but someone with some degree of experience with action and visual effects would seem optimal. Conspicuo

Join Matt, Brandon, and John as they deliver the best movie and television news from our website SANDWICHJOHNFILMS.COM . We also discuss why Jared Leto's Joker looks like someone from Insane Clown Posse (Brandon's own words actually), and why Las Vegas' CinemaCon is perhaps better than Comic-Con. Lego Movie Creators Developing Animated Spider-Man Film

Yet another Spidey project trapped in the web. By Brandon Wolfe Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the sneaky geniuses behind the Jump Street films and The Lego Movie , are developing an animated Spider-Man film for release on July 20, 2018, in an announcement made by Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman at CinemaCon. The film will be independent from the live-action Spider-Man film being developed jointly by Sony and Marvel for Summer 2017. Lord and Miller will write and produce the animated film. Lots of Spidey action heading our way in the future. Discuss this story with fellow SJF fans on Facebook . Sony Narrows Down List of Spider-Man Contenders

Five young actors caught in casting web. By Brandon Wolfe Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have reportedly narrowed down a shortlist of potential actors to slip into the red onesie as the latest incarnation of Spider-Man . The contenders include Nat Wolff ( The Fault in Our Stars ), Asa Butterfield ( Ender’s Game ), Tom Holland ( The Impossible ), Timothee Chalamet ( Interstellar ) and Liam James ( The Way, Way Back ), according to The Wrap . Sony is set to make test offers next week and are expected to select a winner in the next few weeks. While none of these five actors yet have test offers, sources have confirmed they are definitely in contention for the part. The character, who recently became available to Marvel in an unprecedented joint-custody agreement with Sony, is expected to make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with next year’s Captain America: Civil War , which begins shooting in June. If the casting timetable plays out as expected, a new Spidey sho

Russo Brothers to Shoot "Avengers: Infinity War" At One Time

The Russo Brothers are set to direct the follow-ups to The Avengers . Story by Matt Cummings It's not easy these days to suddenly find yourself at the top of the world, especially if you're relatively new and your resume isn't filled with tons of experience. That's the situation which brothers Anthony and Joe Russo - creators of Captain America: The Winter Soldier - have found themselves, as the two took a niche career as veteran television guys and turned it in to box office gold. With Winter Soldier holding on to the top film spot until Guardians of the Galaxy ended that run in September, it was clear that Marvel president Kevin Feige had found his men. Now, that success is being rewarded in two important ways. First, we've learned that after they finish directing Captain America: Civil War , they will begin developing the two sequels for Avengers: Age of Ultron (which premieres on May 1, 2015) titled Avengers: Infinity War . But that's not

Drew Goddard Tapped For Spider-Man Relaunch

Sinister Six writer stays in Spidey’s web. By Brandon Wolfe Latino Review has published a report stating that Drew Goddard, director of the fantastic Cabin in the Woods , is expected to take the helm on the Marvel/Sony jointly-produced new Spider-Man solo film. Goddard was previously set to write and direct Sony’s likely-now-aborted Sinister Six film, so he already had his toe deep in the Spidey waters, making the most sense to lateral him over for this new franchise direction (that he’s close friends with Marvel guru Joss Whedon, having co-written Cabin with him and having cut his teeth of several of Whedon’s TV series, likely didn’t hurt). It’s unclear if any of Goddard’s work on Sinister Six will be reappropriated for this new film, though Latino Review suggests that the first film (which will possibly be titled The Spectacular Spider-Man - since Amazing was already taken by those movies that weren't - and is said to be the first of a new trilogy) will involve t

Marvel's Release Schedule Shifts for Spider-man Addition

Here's how the biggest news of 2015 will affect Marvel Studios' release schedule for the next 5 years. Story by Matt Cummings As we reported on Monday night , fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe just got the biggest news they could have hoped for in Sony Pictures' decision to share Spider-man and his villains with Marvel Studios. The deal is perhaps the biggest news of 2015, and could stand as the biggest entertainment news of the year, even with stories like Avengers: Age of Ultron and Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice in various stages of production. The questions on everyone's mind relative to Spider-man is multi-faceted: how will he fit in to the MCU? Will he appear in Captain America: Civil War ? And how does this affect Marvel Studios' release schedule as it was announced back in October 2014? While the first two questions are TBD, we do know the answer to the third question, because the other news regarding Spider-man is just as big. Not o

Marvel and Sony Strike Joint Partnership on Spider-Man Future

Marvel and Sony learn to share and share alike. By Brandon Wolfe Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marvel Studios have struck a deal to jointly collaborate on the future of the Spider-Man character and franchise. Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige will produce the next batch of films featuring the webhead with just-departed Sony studio head Amy Pascal. The tenets of the deal stipulate that Spider-Man’s next onscreen appearance will as part of a film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe , followed by starring in his own film for Sony Pictures, to be released on July 28, 2017. This deal allows Sony to retain the rights to the character while also giving Marvel both access to the character as well as influence in his usage and direction, probably the closest to an “everybody wins” solution as was possible. Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad, the producers of the recent Amazing Spider-Man films, will executive-produce. Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company said: “Spider-M

J.K. Simmons Open to Reprising J. Jonah Jameson in Future Spider-Man Film

Actor hints at a return for the blowhard Bugle bigwig. By Brandon Wolfe Despite the wildly uneven quality of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the one thing pretty much everyone can agree upon is that J.K. Simmons’ performance as J. Jonah Jameson was terrific. Simmons’ interpretation of Peter Parker’s blustery Daily Bugle boss was so memorable that the creators of the Andrew Garfield Spidey reboot films notably did not use the character, presumably in a tacit acknowledgment of how unfillable those shoes were. Simmons owned that character to such a fundamental extent that replacing him seems unfathomable in a way that wasn’t even true of Spider-Man himself. Fans have often stated that they would be totally fine with Simmons reprising his role as Jameson in future Spider-Man films otherwise unconnected to Raimi’s troika, not unlike how Dame Judi Dench was kept on as M in Casino Royale in spite of the rebooted timeline, and now that might actually come to pass. While being inter

Will Spider-man FINALLY Join the MCU?

A recent report suggests a deal might have been struck. Story by Matt Cummings With the recent hack of Sony Pictures' servers , we've learned a lot about the inner workings of Hollywood. Some of it has been interesting and has actually yielded quite a lot of data on Marvel's relationship with the struggling studio. At the top of that is Sony's continued reluctance to allow Marvel to use Spider-man in its MCU. To Sony, the answer's always been, "You sold us the rights, and you'll have to wait until we're done with them." A Spidey reference almost made it into 2012's The Avengers , with Oscorp Tower slated to appear in the New York skyline before that plan was nixed. Now, a recent report suggests that Marvel might be one step closer to getting one of its prized properties back. According to a report by Latino Review, Sony and Marvel have agreed to bring Spider-man into the MCU, just in time for Avengers: Infinity War . We'r

All The Marvel Easter Eggs In One Video

Before Marvel Studios came along, Easter eggs — or small lines or visual cues that are included in movies as nods to fans in the know — were few and unimportant. Stan Lee got his “ Spider-Man ” cameos, Wolverine joked that his suit wasn’t “yellow spandex,” and Lou Ferrigno was seen briefly in “ Hulk .” But with the advent of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting with “ Iron Man ” all the way through its newest release, “ Guardians of the Galaxy ,” Easter eggs have become an art. Sure, sometimes they’re still similar to the old ones — after all, Stan Lee still has had cameos in every MCU movie so far — but Marvel was the first studio to really ask its fans to rewatch, slow down, and magnify its movies to find all the secrets within, secrets which could be integral to the plot of future movies. Watch the clip after the Jump... Get More: Music News Captain America’s shield can be found in the first “Iron Man,” which at the time seemed like a throwaway, until we realiz

Josh Hartnett: Why He Turned Down #Superman, #Batman & #SpiderMan

Josh Hartnett sat down with Details to promote his upcoming film PENNY DREADFUL, and he was asked a few questions why he turned down Superman, Batman and Spider-Man roles. I am sure he is kicking himself in the ass right about now. Read the interview after the Jump... DETAILS : You're 35 now, but in your twenties, you got offered pretty much everything. You turned down Superman Returns, and you were in talks to play almost every other superhero. Josh Hartnett: Spider-Man was something we talked about. Batman was another one. But I somehow knew those roles had potential to define me, and I didn't want that. I didn't want to be labeled as Superman for the rest of my career. I was maybe 22, but I saw the danger. DETAILS: Your agents must have been slitting their wrists. Josh Hartnett: I didn't have those agents for much longer after that. There was a lot of infighting between my manager and agents, trying to figure out who to put the blame on. It got

Dark Horse New York Comic-Con Exclusive Spider-Man

As part of the Marvel Syrocos program that debuted at San Diego Comic-Con International in July, it is announced today that Dark Horse will be releasing another exclusive Spider-Man statue for New York Comic Con ! New York Comic Con attendees will have a very significant opportunity to acquire a special statue released just for the show. Much like the previously released and long-sold-out SDCC exclusive, a very limited number of this statuette is being offered. It is packaged in the same litho-printed tin box that is the hallmark of the Dark Horse Syrocos, and is destined to be a bona fide hot item, both at the show and far beyond the exhibit hall. It will be sold at the normal retail price of $49.99, with a limit of four per customer. “We wanted to evoke New York with our very special exclusive Spider-Man,” said Dark Horse’s VP of Product Development, David Scroggy. “Unfortunately, space constraints made a rooftop water tower or fire escape impossible, but we still hope fans
