Glee's Dianna Agron And Emma Stone Up For Mary Jane In Spider-Man Reboot. And Who Might Play Venom

Glee's Dianna Agron And Emma Stone Up For Mary Jane In Spider-Man Reboot. And Who Might Play Venom The search for a young actress to star alongside Andrew Garfield in the rebooted Spider-Man is intensifying. I'm told that Sony Pictures Entertainment has added a couple of contenders for the role. They are Dianna Agron , who stars in the hit series Glee and Georgina Haig, star of the Ben C. Lucas-directed Wasted on the Young, which premiered to acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival. Agron just tested last night, though there are questions of availability because she is such a major part of a hit TV show. They join a small group of actresses previously in the mix. The main other contenders are Zombieland and Easy A star Emma Stone , Alice in Wonderland star Mia Wasikowska , and Dominique McElligott , who starred in the 2009 Sony Pictures Classics release Moon . These actresses are being considered for the roles of Gwen Stacy , Peter Parker's first love,

Andrew Garfield Spider-Man Reboot

Andrew Garfield Gives Very Little Information On The Upcoming Spider-Man Reboot With the Spider-Man reboot to begin filming in December of this year. Andrew Garfield has been pretty silent so far about his biggest movie role to date. But now with two films to be released soon " Never Let Me Go " and " The Social Network " I am sure every question at these press junkets will have to do with the Spider-Man reboot. THR got their hands on him first and asked a few interesting questions. Have you been prepping for Spider-Man? I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, "Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you’ve always wanted to be all your life, and we’re going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you’re going to feel like you’re swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?" [laughs] “Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks...” So my seven-ye

Iron Fist Movie Moving Forward With xXx Writer

Iron Fist Movie Moving Forward With xXx Writer Marvel Studios is moving forward on a live action feature version of Iron Fist , hiring screenwriter Rich Wilkes to draft a movie based on a martial arts expert whose battle with a dragon--ended when he plunged his hands through the beast's molten heart--turned his fists into indestructible weapons. Iron Fist was on the minds of many fanboys when Disney paid $4 billion for Marvel's 5000 superhero library and vowed to turn the less obvious comic book heroes into films and TV properties. Marvel tried to make an Iron Fist movie with Artisan nearly a decade ago, as a vehicle for X-Men villain and martial arts expert Ray Park . The Iron Fist comic book mythology was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in the 1970s, when the popularity of martial arts films was on the rise. Iron Fist was among a bunch of Marvel superhero properties scattered around Hollywood. While tent poles like X-Men, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four and

Reboot: Dirty Harry By Jonathan Cyfer

Reboot: Dirty Harry By Jonathan Cyfer We've seen a variety of franchises that have been "rebooted" lately or are soon to be rebooted, from Star Trek to Spider-Man , but there are a number of films that are generally ignored (perhaps a great number) and should be considered for a significant facelift. This isn't to say that every film or TV series that's 30 years old or older should be given new life and there are some idea s that should have never seen the light of day the first time. For instance, it's been suggested that a remake of the Don Knotts 1964 film The Incredible Mr Limpet be released, but having seen the original, I'd like to see this particular product given a pass. And while I'm sure many of you will enjoy the new Smurfs film out of a sense of nostalgia, the little blue guys (and one girl) really need to stay on the small screen (just look how horribly the very wonderful Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons were translated into film ).

Alvin Sargent To Lend A Hand To Spider-Man Reboot

Alvin Sargent To Lend A Hand To Spider-Man Reboot The veteran screenwriter (and repeat Spidey scribe) has been brought on board to fine-tune Columbia’s "Spider-Man" reboot being directed by Marc Webb. The studio is working off a script by Jamie Vanderbilt, who wrote “Zodiac” and a draft of “Spider-Man 4” before the studio scrapped its plans for the sequel to re-start the series. Sargent is doing a production polish as the studio runs with eight legs toward a planned shoot later this year. Sargent, 83, is practically part of the Peter Parker family, having worked on every single “Spider-Man” movie. The acclaimed writer of hefty dramas like 1980s “Ordinary People” and 1973’s “Paper Moon" has become the studio’s go-to guy for punching up weighty scenes. The new “Spider-Man” is rumored to be more emotionally anchored and realistic than the previous movies. Word is that Peter Parker will be a 17-year-old high school kid struggling with shifting hormones and an outsider s

James Cameron Gives Advice For Spider-Man Reboot

James Cameron Gives Advice For Spider-Man Reboot Director James Cameron, who raised 3-D filmmaking to new heights with Avatar, is downplaying reports that he is consulting with director Marc Webb about a rebooted Spider-Man movie. Though Cameron's Avatar producing partner Jon Landau told MTV that the duo met with Webb, Cameron now tells MTV, "I never talked with them directly" - Cameron added that he's happy to speak with Webb, who will be shooting the new Spidey movie in 3-D, but added, "It's not like I want to tell them how to do it. ... It's more like, just don't make the same dumbass mistakes that we made for 10 years." As for what Cameron would like to see in a new, rebooted Spider-Man? (Remember that Cameron himself once wanted to adapt Spidey to the movies.) "I'd like to seem him reinvented in the same way that Batman got reinvented. ... That's very successful," he said. James Cameron Talks To Marc Webb About Upcoming Spider-Man Film

James Cameron Talks To Marc Webb About Upcoming Spider-Man Film Following the smash success of “Avatar,” James Cameron is Hollywood’s new guru of greatness. It’s no surprise, then, that filmmakers looking to master the complexities of 3-D, science-fiction and state-of-the-art special effects are seeking him out for guidance as if he were a bearded man sitting atop a mountain. Now, in a new development that should thrill fans of our friendly neighborhood webslinger, MTV News has learned the name of the latest filmmaker to meet with Cameron: "Spider-Man" director Marc Webb. “Last [week] we met the director of [the next ‘Spider-Man’ film],” Cameron’s producing partner Jon Landau revealed to us when he stopped by the MTV studio, explaining that the “Avatar” filmmaker and Spider-Man’s new gatekeeper compared notes Wednesday evening. “[Webb] wants to do the next one in 3-D, which they’ve announced that they want to do. So, we want to try to support that as much as possible.” Althou

Marc Webb Officially Announced To Direct Spider-Man Reboot

Marc Webb Officially Announced To Direct Spider-Man Reboot Now with Marc Webb announced that he got the gig for the Spider-Man reboot which way is he going to go with the film? And will our good friend Michael PapaJohn be coming back as Dennis Carradine, the man who kills Uncle Ben? Marc Webb, the director of the Golden Globe-nominated Best Picture (500) Days of Summer, will direct the next chapter in the Spider-Man franchise, set to hit theaters summer 2012, it was jointly announced today by Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios. Written by James Vanderbilt, Webb will work closely with producers Avi Arad and Laura Ziskin in developing the project, which will begin production later this year. Commenting on the announcement, Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Matt Tolmach, president of Columbia Pictures, said, "At its core, Spider-Man is a small, intimate human story about an everyday teenager that takes place in an epic super-human world. The key for us as

Marc Webb To Spin A Web On Spider-Man Reboot?

Marc Webb To Spin A Web On Spider-Man Reboot? Marc Webb, the (500) Days Of Summer director, has climbed to the top of the Sony Pictures' list to rebirth the Spider-Man franchise. While the studio has a wish list of star directors like James Cameron, David Fincher, and Wes Anderson, the emergence of Webb as director comes as a huge surprise. But Mike Fleming's sources tell him Webb met about the Spidey reboot with the pic's producers and executives looking to get the picture into production later this year for a Summer 2012 release. Why will the pic take so long? Because it's likely to be shot in 3-D, and Sony Pictures plans to make an announcement about that "at the appropriate time". Though he has the perfect name for the job, Webb has no prior superhero experience. (Hey, I saw Darkman and that was more of a science experiment that a superhero.) Then again, neither did Sam Raimi. And Chris Nolan was the director of Memento when he signed on for Batman Begins

Spider-Man Going To Get A Make Over For Next Film

Spider-Man Going To Get A Make Over The next Spider-Man film will be a reboot of the franchise, not a continuation of series Sam Raimi created back in 2002 — in a move similar to Batman Begins restarting the Batman franchise seven years after Batman and Robin underwhelmed fans and critics. This time around, the series will place Peter Parker in a more contemporary setting, as a teenager battling today’s issues. The decision to go with an origin story stemmed from Sony developing two Spidey projects simultaneously. According to studio insiders, Sony was working on both Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 and the new origin story from James Vanderbilt, who wrote Zodiac. The original plan was to keep the Spider-Man gang together for one last film in 2011 before rebooting the series in 2012. When it became clear that Raimi would not be able to make the summer 2011 release date planned for Spider-Man 4, the studio opted to scrap Spider-Man 4 altogether, and focus solely on the series reboot. Who will helm

Marvel Sues To Keep Rights To Super Heroes

Marvel Sues To Keep Rights To Super Heroes Marvel is suing to keep the rights to superheroes including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four and X-Men. The federal lawsuit filed Friday in Manhattan asks a judge to invalidate notices sent by the heirs of artist Jack Kirby to try to terminate Marvel's copyrights. The heirs sent notified several companies last year that the rights to the characters would revert from Marvel to Kirby's estate. The lawsuit says Kirby's work on the comics were "for hire" and render the heirs' claims invalid. Comic book characters such as Spider-Man and the X-Men have become some of Hollywood's most bankable properties in recent years. Marc Toberoff, an attorney for the Kirby heirs, said he hadn't seen the lawsuit and had no immediate comment. Please Leave A Comment- Source- THR

Disney Going To Dig Deep Into Marvel's Vault

Disney Going To Dig Deep Into Marvel's Vault Moviegoers have shown a willingness to be entangled by Spider-Man's web over and over again. Now, as Disney prepares to buy the comic-book powerhouse Marvel, it faces the question of whether fans will also get attached to characters as obscure as Ant-Man and Iron Fist. The Walt Disney Co. is making a $4.2 billion bet that they will as it nears completion of its acquisition of Marvel Entertainment this week. The cash-and-stock deal brings those characters and thousands of others to an entertainment empire that already includes Mickey Mouse, Kermit the Frog and Hannah Montana. Disney's biggest challenge will be to get enough people enthused about second-string superheroes to justify the price -- about $1.2 billion, or 40%, more than what Marvel's stock was worth when the deal was announced Aug. 31. The high price means Disney will have to find new ways to earn revenue from Marvel -- perhaps by bringing Marvel-licensed toys to m

Men In Black 3 Coming Soon

Men In Black 3 Coming Soon In a long-anticipated move, Columbia Pictures is pushing forward with a third installment in the "Men in Black" franchise. Studio has tapped "Tropic Thunder" scribe Etan Cohen to pen "Men in Black 3." There are no deals in place for the franchise's stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, though it's unlikely that Columbia would greenlight the project without the duo's involvement. Columbia made a similar move in reviving another lucrative franchise when it began work last year on a new "Ghostbusters." At the time, the studio tapped a hot pair of scribes in Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to bring a modern twist to the supernatural comedy. With the exception of mega-property "Spider-Man," Columbia has few franchises in its vault to draw upon. The Bond franchise has reverted back to MGM. "Ghostbusters" was Columbia's highest-grossing film ever until it was beaten by "Men in Black&q

Venom Movie Looks Likely To Get Made Soon

Venom Movie Looks Likely To Get Made Soon We can only hope that the Venom Movie that Rhett and Paul wrote will be better then what we saw in Spider-Man #. The only Good part about Spider-Man 3 was our good Friend Michael Papajohn Reprising his role in the movie as Dennis Carradine / Carjacker . Or the Man who killed Uncle Ben? Now Sony is going forward with a Venom spin off movie, which pretty much has fans split down the middle. Will it finally do the fanged black-ooze baddie justice, or will it be more of the same? The good news is that Zombieland co-writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been tasked with penning the project (Zombieland is awesome, so fingers crossed). Today Wernick confirmed to us that the project is still moving forward and the writing team has turned the script in to the suits at Sony. "We've written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they're pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward," Wernick told SCI FI Wire in a
