According to Variety Actress and pop singer Cailee Spaeny has landed the female lead in Legendary’s “ Pacific Rim 2 ” the sequel to the 2013 sci-fi hit. John Boyega will play the male lead in “ Pacific Rim 2 ” and Scott Eastwood also stars. Steven S. DeKnight is directing. Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, and Guillermo del Toro will produce the action adventure film along with Boyega and Femi Oguns under their Upper Room Productions shingle. After tackling the world of illegal street racing in Fast 8, Scott Eastwood is switching to Hollywood's sci-fi lane. The actor, who is poised for a breakout year with a string of high-profile projects scheduled for 2017, is set to star in Wayne Kramer's Ecstasia . He will be joined by Italian actress Matilda Lutz (The Rings) as a couple who live in a world where love no longer exists during their final days together before their love expires. Star and series producer Vin Diesel has marked the occasion with the first photo of the new cast posted to his Instagram feed. It’s not a still from the movie, or even an professionally photographed snap from the publicity department, but it gives us a good idea of what the billion-dollar franchise now looks like in its post-Paul Walker era. For those counting, that’s actually 11 cast members pictured – featuring (from left to right) Jason Statham, Kristofer Hivju, Kurt Russell, Tyrese Gibson, Charlize Theron, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Scott Eastwood and Dwayne Johnson . Regardless of whether it ends up being called Fast 8, Furious 8 or, in a moment of utter titling madness, &8, the next Fast & Furious film is now shooting. And the team has posted the first look at Charlize Theron 's villain, the mysteriously-named Cipher. Does this mean she's a master technical whizz, security conscious, or is it a comment on the fact that the Fast rogues are usually not all that complicated? Variety is reporting Scott Eastwood has joined the ensemble of “ Fast 8 ,” the next installment in the “Fast and Furious” franchise. Eastwood joins Charlize Theron , who will portray a new antagonist. The latest installment begins production this summer with a planned April 14, 2017, release. Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson and Michelle Rodriguez will reprise their roles, with F. Gary Gray taking over the directing reins. Neil Moritz and Diesel will produce.
