The hard-luck quartet – Pat (Anton Yelchin), Sam ( Arrested Development ’s Alia Shawkat), Reece (Joe Cole) and Tiger (Callum Turner) – find themselves playing sparsely populated gigs that net them a paltry $6 a man and are reduced to syphoning off gas to remain on the road. After a mohawked college DJ (David W. Thompson) takes pity on them, he sets them up with a gig just outside of Portland that he promises will pay a decent wage. Oscar Isaac has closed a deal to play the titular comicbook villain in 20th Century Fox’s “ X-Men: Apocalypse .” Bryan Singer will direct the superhero pic with Simon Kinberg writing the script. Singer has described the upcoming X-Men film, which is expected to feature all cast members including Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and James McAvoy, as the most destructive movie in the franchise. “‘ Apocalypse ’ will have more of the mass destruction that ‘X-Men’ films, to date, have not relied upon,” he recently said. “There’s definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle.” Singer also suggested that “Apocalypse,” set in the 1980s, could feature younger versions of familiar characters. Anna Paquin’s scenes as Rogue that were cut from “ X-Men: Days of Future Past ” will be added back to the film and re-released as the “ Rogue Cut ” next summer on homevideo platforms. The extended version of “ Days of Future Past ” will become available in the first half of 2015, most likely during the summer, according to the film’s writer and producer Simon Kinberg, who made the announcement Thursday from Stage 21, where scenes for the previous “X-Men” installment, “First Class” were filmed on the Twentieth Century Fox studio lot. Kinberg, who also worked on that film, was back on the lot to promote the theatrical version of “Days of Future Past,” available now on digital and on Oct. 14 on DVD and Blu-ray. We’ve known for a while that Channing Tatum has ambitions to play roguishly charming, New Orleans native X-Men mutant Gambit on screen, and that X-producer Laura Shuler Donner would also like it to happen, which means the idea is now in official development.
