Paul Rudd To Play Ant-Man

With Joseph Gordon-Levitt turning his attention to “Sandman,” the “Anchorman 2″ star has landed the coveted lead After months of speculation, Paul Rudd has landed the lead in Marvel’s “Ant-Man” and is now in negotiations to play Hank Pym, multiple sources have told TheWrap . Representatives for Marvel and Rudd had no comment. Edgar Wright is directing the movie from a script he co-wrote with Joe Cornish, and Disney will release the film on July 31, 2015. Kevin Feige will produce for Marvel. In recent interviews to promote “Anchorman 2″ as well as his recent stint hosting “Saturday Night Live,” Rudd has appeared noticeably slimmer, and sources tell TheWrap that’s because he’s training for the physical role of Ant-Man. Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have been considered the frontrunners for the coveted role since October, though Gordon-Levitt has appeared in several comic book adaptations and is gearing up for another one in WB’s “Sandman.” Rudd is more of a natural fit for t

Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Produce Sandman For WB

A month or so ago came the news that Dark Knight screenwriter David S. Goyer was pitching a movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman comics to Warner Bros. With that story came the whisper of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's involvement somewhere in the project, although the details were unclear. This morning that fog has lifted: Gordon-Levitt, it's revealed, is certainly attached as producer, and may also direct and star as the dream lord Morpheus: the Sandman of the title. Gordon-Levitt confirmed the news on his Twitter feed, initially with a vague announcement saying that he was "honoured to be working with David Goyer, Warner Bros, and Neil Gaiman on Sandman". When an excitable internet leapt to immediate conclusions about what that might mean, however, he clarified that the starring and directing bit "remains to be seen"... With a critically successful recent directorial debut in Don Jon, and a proven track record as a star at Warners via Inception

Tatum & Levitt Wanted For Guys And Dolls Remake

At long last, 20th Century Fox has closed movie rights to Guys And Dolls , and the studio will soon start the process of developing a remake of the stage and movie classic for what Fox hopes will be a killer pairing of Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the roles made famous by Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando. There is no writer or director yet, but those guys are interested. While we are all waiting for the eventual movie adaptation of stage hits like Wicked and The Book Of Mormon, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a musical adaptation get the kind of rise out of movie stars that Guys And Dolls has each time a movie deal was rumored. Years ago, it looked like Harvey Weinstein was getting the rights, with his Chicago exec producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron producing the film. Thesps from Russell Crowe to Vin Diesel, Hugh Jackman and others all tossed their hats into the ring to play the leads. Trouble was, Jo Loesser, the widow of songwriter Frank Loesser, never found a deal to

War Is Brewing Over Upcoming "Godzilla" Film

A battle is brewing between Godzilla producer-financier Legendary Pictures and the two producers who brought the project to the company. Gozilla , the famed Japanese monster property, is getting a new movie treatment from Legendary and Warner Bros. (the studio has a 25 percent stake) with Gareth Edwards directing. The project is ramping up for a spring production start, with offers out to several top actors. ( Joseph Gordon-Levitt was on the list but has since passed). According to Legendary sources, the company and producers Dan Lin and Roy Lee are sparring over creative and financial differences. Warners insiders say Legendary wanted the producers to reduce their fees. When the pair declined, the company began exercising a pay-or-play clause in their contracts to boot them from the project, a nearly unheard-of move. The dispute first was reported by Hitfix. Lin, a producer behind this week's Gangster Squad, and Lee, brought the much-sought-after Godzilla project to

Josh Brolin Joins Sin City: A Dame To Kill For

With the cameras cranking and the blue/green screens up, casting announcements for Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For are coming thick and fast. Yesterday brought word that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been cast in a new character role. Now that has been followed with the news that Josh Brolin and Christopher Meloni are aboard. Brolin , it seems, will be bringing his recent, MIB III-showcased expertise at playing characters in their younger days for the film, as he’s signed on to take over Dwight from Clive Owen . Dwight’s story in Dame is a prequel tale that sees him hunted down by Ava Lord, the only woman he ever loved. His life goes into the gutter and he ends up with a completely different face later in life (hence the actor swap). “Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and A Dame To Kill For is a defining episode in his life,” Rodriguez and Miller said in a statement picked up by Collider . “We’re looking forward to Josh’s

Rumor Time. Joseph Gordon-Levitt To Be Cast In Justice League Film

Though a certain saga set in a galaxy far, far away is currently the biggest topic of rumor  there is still plenty of life in speculation over who and what will be part of Warner Bros.' Justice League film, which is aiming at a 2015 launch. Now Hitfix’s Drew McWeeny has sources telling him that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is moving from likely candidate to early casting talks. Of course, nothing has officially been announced about the film beyond Gangster Squad’s Will Beall writing at least a few drafts of the script. So this remains in the world of the rumour for now. But it’s certainly a tantalising one, given that – spoiler alert here for anyone who still hasn’t seen The Dark Knight Rises or any discussion thereof and might complain – Gordon-Levitt’s John Blake is A) revealed to have the legal name Robin and B) appears to take on the Bat-mantle at the end. McWeeny, who is not a man to run any old rumor, has it that Gordon-Levitt will indeed be taking on the full Bat-duty fo

Lincoln Review. Film Is Brilliant

Lincoln Review By: MattInRC Steven Spielberg's Lincoln is brilliant, stirring, and a sure-fire contender for the Oscars. As a middle school history teacher, I am amazed by the interest my students have about the Civil War; every year, they consistently question why 620,000 Americans felt the need to defend their stance on slavery with the ultimate sacrifice. They wonder what kind of a society allowed for the expansion of slavery, and how our nation cleansed itself of the "peculiar institution," as coined by American politicians and pundits throughout the 1860's. But more than anything, they wonder about the people involved in its abolition, including its central figure, Abraham Lincoln. With recent articles suggesting the death toll might have topped a staggering 750,000, Hollywood in 2012 has responded with two films about Lincoln, each with its own unique take on his life. The latter, Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, is an emotionally charged, powerf

LOOPER Review. One Of The Most Inventive & Absorbing Films Of The Year

LOOPER Review   By: MattInRC  LOOPER is one of the most inventive and absorbing films of the year. And it's a Science Fiction film. Yay! The Science Fiction genre always seems to get slighted for one reason or another, the most common criticism of which is its fanciful and disconnected view from reality. The Oscars have not been kind either, relegating it to the technical achievement categories rather than desiring to place a ring on its finger. In reality, Science Fiction (which should not be confused with the action-heavy Sci-Fi genre) offers audiences the best of all worlds, due to its ability to weave drama, action, and comedy that is set on far-away planets. Star Wars brought us the best bad guy ever conceived in Darth Vader, pitting his oppressive Empire against a Rebellion determined to upend the Dark Sith. Even in the case of epics like Blade Runner , where the story is set in a futuristic Los Angeles, our Replicant robots demonstrated real human feelin
