Spawned from just the idea of the title – and the current US President's desire for the United States to claim the territory beyond our atmosphere – Space Force is ready to lift off on Netflix, and the first trailer, starring Steve Carell, has arrived. Space Force, cooked up by Carell and his old US Office boss Greg Daniels, focuses on General Mark R. Naird (Carell), A decorated pilot and four-star general with dreams of running the Air Force. He's thrown for a loop when he finds himself tapped to lead the newly formed sixth branch of the US Armed Forces: Space Force. Skeptical but dedicated, Mark uproots his family and moves to a remote base in Colorado where he and a colorful team of scientists and “Spacemen” are tasked by the White House with getting American boots on the moon (again) in a hurry and achieving total space dominance. Academy Award® winner Taika Waititi , who recently won Best Adapted Screenplay for “ Jojo Rabbit ” and directed the widely-acclaimed first season finale episode of “ The Mandalorian ” on Disney+, will direct and co-write a new “ Star Wars ” feature film for theatrical release. Joining Waititi on the screenplay will be Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“1917,” “Last Night in Soho”), who received a BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film of the Year on the three-time Oscar®-winning film, “1917.” In addition, Emmy®-nominated writer Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll,” “Bachelorette”) is currently developing a new untitled “Star Wars” series for Disney+. THR is reporting Joe and Anthony Russo are producing, but not directing, the remake via their AGBO banner. Disney is going to zero to hero once more, putting into development a live-action remake of its 1997 animated movie Hercules . The studio has hired Dave Callaham, the action scribe who launched The Expendables franchise and wrote Marvel’s upcoming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings , to pen the script. Joe and Anthony Russo, the filmmakers behind the Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War, are set to produce via their AGBO banner. The 1997 pic was a musical fantasy retelling of the Greek legend that featured plenty of the trademark comedic banter of that era’s Disney animated titles. Tate Donovan voiced the demigod looking to reclaim his heroic stature, while James Woods played Hades, the god plotting to overthrow Olympus.
