Cher Joins Mamma Mia Sequel

THR is reporting Cher is heading back to the big screen for the first time in seven years. The singer-actress has joined the cast of Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again , the all-star sequel to the global musical hit. Cher’s character details are being kept under wraps. She teased out the news over the weekend with several tweets. The movie also has younger versions of the characters portrayed by the veterans, played by Lily James, Alexa Davies, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Jeremy Irvine, Josh Dylan and Hugh Skinner . Ol Parker, writer of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, penned the script from a story concocted by himself, Catherine Johnson and Richard Curtis. Parker is also directing the movie, which is currently in production. The role will mark Cher’s first movie appearance since 2010’s Burlesque, in which she co-starred with Christina Aguilera. Reboot Of Nancy Drew Starring @sarahshahi Could Be Heading To NBC

NBC is trying its hand at Nancy Drew . More than a year after CBS passed on its Sarah Shahi -fronted Nancy Drew, NBC is teaming with Tony Phelan and Joan Rater to redevelop the drama. The project, which is in development, has an entirely new logline at CBS despite hailing from the same producing team and studio (CBS Television Studios). Here's the new logline: "When the author of the most famous female teen detective series is thrust into a real-life murder mystery, who does she turn to for help? Her two best friends from childhood, who were the inspiration for all those books, and the women who have a real ax to grind about the way their supposed best friend chose to portray them all those years ago." The CBS version, which made headlines for its inclusive casting of Person of Interest grad Shahi, went to pilot and was described as a contemporary take on the character from the book series. #HappyDeathDay Scares The Box Office

Cementing a very successful period for the company, Blumhouse Productions' Happy Death Day blew past the second weekend of Blade Runner 2049 to nab the top spot at the US box office with $26.5 million, according to studio estimates. It's an impressive initial haul for the time-looping slasher comedy, which was made for the typically thrifty Blumhouse price of a little less than $5 million. And adding in its limited foreign business so far, the movie has made $31.5 million. By contrast, the Blade Runner sequel , which cost an estimated $150 million (not including marketing) earned $15.1 million this weekend after a launch that saw it win the charts but underperform in terms of expectations. The movie is now on $60.5 million in the States. Jackie Chan's new action movie The Foreigner entered the charts at third with $12.8 million, while It slipped to fourth on $6 million.
