The Holmes just keep on coming. Review by Brandon Wolfe As predicted, the rift between Sherlock and John was indeed short-lived. It had to be, of course, since the season finale is next week. And that’s ultimately what “The Lying Detective” has as its endgame, repairing that pivotal relationship in the wake of Mary Watson’s death. However, the episode has a lot else on its mind peripherally, some good, some less so. As with any episode of Sherlock , it’s a grab-bag of overstuffed delight mixed with curious unevenness. John has taken to seeing a therapist to cope with Mary’s death, keeping to himself that he’s regularly having conversations with his deceased wife within the confines of his grief-stricken head. Sherlock, meanwhile, has fallen hard into illicit substances, leading him to act more erratically than ever before. Despite the dramatic, fog machine-aided setting, the assorted members of the Justice League almost could be lining up for school picture day in this new image. Still, take a look at Ben Affleck's Batman, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher's Cyborg, Ezra Miller's The Flash and Jason Momoa's Aquaman in the latest still above. Notably missing, of course, is Henry Cavill's Superman, and we can only assume this comes from a part of the film where he's still presumed dead, his noble sacrifice spurring Affleck's Bruce Wayne to assemble the team to battle a dangerous, powerful new intergalactic threat. Either that, or Supes is picking up his spare cape from the dry cleaners and will be around shortly. The movie finds our heroes facing off against the danger of Steppenwolf and has already demonstrated that it'll try to inject a little more genuine fun in the story.
