BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Blu-Ray Review: Mr. Church

Eddie Murphy drama is about as enjoyable as church. Review by Brandon Wolfe and Matt Cummings Eddie Murphy has defined himself by his innate laziness for so long—decades now—that any faint whiff of ambition he exudes has become cause for celebration. Murphy has squandered his immense talent on cut-rate comedies and kid movies almost without reprieve for about twenty years now, leaving that electric performer from the ‘80s a dim memory. After his last misfire, 2012’s woebegone bomb A Thousand Words , Murphy entered into a long hiatus from acting. The hope then became that he would eventually reemerge as the Eddie Murphy of old, reinvested and committed in ways that have eluded him for so long, his tenure sleepwalking through paycheck movies at a close. What Murphy came back with is Mr. Church , a low-key drama. Drama is fine. While Murphy being funny again is the ultimate goal, seeing him making any kind of effort is laudable, and it isn’t as though he has nothing to offer in a dra

Movie Review: #BLEEDFORTHIS

This ain't no Rocky! Rama is back. The problem with BLEED FOR THIS is that the true story behind it is way more fascinating than the film itself which unfortunately doesn’t get to be anything more than mundane. After having seen countless other comeback underdog themed films in the past, BLEED FOR THIS just seems so uninspired. Miles Teller plays Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza, a boxer who shot to stardom after winning 2 world title fights. He’s at the top of his game. But a near fatal car crash leaves him with spinal injury so bad the doctors think he may never walk again. But with the help of stubbornness and his trainer, Kevin Rooney (Aaron Eckhart), Vinny proves everybody wrong and not only does he get to walk again, he ultimately returns to the ring and reclaims his title belt. It’s been deemed as one of the most incredible comebacks in sports history. As I said earlier, the true story of Vinny and how he defied all odds is fascinating, I mean the guy actuall

Dark Universe, exploring the supernatural side of DC Comics, is in development as a feature by director Doug Liman , but fans will get their first look at some of its potential team members with the animated film Justice League Dark , being released on Blu-ray and for digital download in early 2017. And which just happens to be the recipient of a new trailer. Over the course of the film, Batman (voiced by Jason O’Mara ) is drawn into the world of the occult by Deadman ( Nicholas Turturro ), which in turn leads him to the likes of Jason Blood/Etrigan ( Ray Chase ), Felix Faust ( Enrico Colantoni ), Zatanna ( Camilla Luddington ), Destiny ( Alfred Molina ) and John Constantine ( Matt Ryan , reprising his role from the live action Constantine series). Director Jay Oliva, who also directed the two-part animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, feels that the strength of Justice League Dark is that they’re dealing with a different kind of team than fans might be used to, part

Movie Review: LOVING Uplifting, Beautiful, & Heartfelt. #ThisIsLoving

LOVING  is an uplifting, important film that will be cherished for generations. Both Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga disappear in their characters, among the most deeply-affecting performances this year. And writer/director Jeff Nichols once again proves his storytelling prowess. Rama is back again. Based on the true story of interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving who were punished by law and ultimately banished from their hometown for getting married. They spent the next nine years fighting for their right to raise their family there. It’s a case that went all the way to the supreme court and resulted in the landmark civil rights decision invalidating any laws that prohibit interracial marriage. What I’ve always admired about writer/director Jeff Nichols is that he’s more interested in the human factor. Even when his film could be about mystery adventure like “Midnight Special,” the focus remains centered around how two or three characters affect each other. The same

THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN does for this generation what John Hughes’ movies did for the ‘80s and what “She’s All That” did for the ‘90s. And so clear your plans this weekend to make room for THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN marks the feature directorial debut of writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig who superbly wrote this wonderful hilarious coming-of-age story that’s candid and unadulterated.
