Movie Review: Now You See Me 2

Movie Review: 'Warcraft'

Warcraft takes on too much and delivers too little on its way to clouding the future of the video game movie genre. Review by Matt Cummings One might look at the 2016 Summer movie slate and equate it to a bag of feces set afire at your front door. In reality, such childish pranks might be all that's left when the season is done, underlying a growing concern in which the real stakes faced by Hollywood feel higher than normal. Recent releases have been reeling from an assault of soft openings, poor critic reviews, and a general sense that sequelitis is producing films that audiences don't want. Warcraft does little to stem that feeling of dread, cramming in too much story and setting forth some of the worst casting in recent memory. The result both muddies the future of the genre and the chances for this franchise to carry on. Warcraft is told from two perspectives - the orcs and humans - as each prepares to fight the other, while coming to question their roles

Movie Review: The Conjuring 2

Sequel conjures up solid scares but the power of the original compels it. Review by Brandon Wolfe True horror classics come along with criminal infrequency, but The Conjuring was a rare inductee into that exclusive club. The film, which chronicled one of several hauntings probed by real-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga), was an exquisitely unnerving exercise in sustained terror. Director James Wan, who cut his horror teeth with Saw and Insidious , crafted one of the most genuinely effective haunted-house thrillers ever made, a film that excelled at keeping the audience in a state of perpetual dread for two hours. I walked out of The Conjuring feeling knotted up in my muscles and tight in my jaw, exhausted from the experience of watching something that knew exactly how and when to turn the screws. And, unlike most horror films, The Conjuring came home with me, filling me with that sense of unease in darkened rooms that only the

New Image From Star Wars: Episode VIII

Is this what Jedi will be wearing in December 2017? Or could it be, as the director himself has jokingly suggested, the cloak that Rian Johnson has been sporting as he oversees Star Wars: Episode VIII . Either way, it's the latest image that Johnson has posted to his Tumblr page from the movie's production. Johnson is getting close to winding up at least principal photography on the follow-up to The Force Awakens, though of course the long haul of post-production, any potential additional shooting and then the press march for the film means that he's got a lot of work still ahead of him. And a lot about the next main Star Wars entry remains to be disclosed: despite recent rumours, the title of the film is still a mystery and we don't know much about what actually happens in the film, beyond, one can assume, more from Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker, Daisy Ridley's Rey, John Boyega's Finn and Adam Driver's Kylo Ren. The resistance will have more tro
