From the grad-night exploits of Dazed and Confused to the long-term relationship examination of the Before... trilogy to the meticulous analysis of an entire childhood in Boyhood (the true best film of 2014, Birdman be damned), Linklater is less interested in plot mechanics and narrative strictures than he is with simple human interaction and small yet defining life moments. His films often have a free-floating hangout vibe, content as he is to simply spend time with his characters and relish in their musings and connections. His movies feel like relaxed afternoons with friends rather than capital-C cinema. Review by Brandon Wolfe On a seemingly unremarkable morning commute, Davis Mitchell (Jake Gyllenhaal) is sitting in the passenger seat half-listening to his wife Julia (Heather Lind) as she implores him to fix the leaky refrigerator back at home. This mundane scene from a marriage is violently upended by a deadly car accident, in which Julia is killed but Davis emerges unscathed. We immediately cut to the hospital where a disoriented Davis is still piecing together what has happened. Hungry, he goes to purchase a pack of M&Ms from a vending machine and watches helplessly as it dangles from its hook, unattainable. He takes a picture of the vending machine’s posted contact information. He’s not done with this. RAMA is back and this time he reviews Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The force is strong with this one. The best ' Star Wars ' movie since ' The Empire Strikes Back ' I can’t thank Disney and Lucasfilm enough for sending me this advance copy of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Blu-Ray . I was geekin’ out like a fat kid on a buffet line when I received this copy in the mail, it was like Christmas in Spring, it was like having my birthday party all over again, there’s no better way than that to describe such joy. The box art cover alone looks so pretty, it’s hypnotic, I can’t keep my eyes off of it, this blending of the old original generation with the new is just as thrilling as the movie itself. Now, the Blu-Ray, contains so many bonus features, I’m going to talk about some of them here, but heads up, it may be spoilery. Variety is reporting Freeform is venturing into the Marvel universe. The younger-skewing Disney-owned network has greenlit “ Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger ” with a straight-to-series order. Described as a superhero love story, “ Cloak and Dagger ” is based on the titular comic book duo (also known as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson) who have appeared in Marvel Comics classics, including “Spiderman” and “X-Men” stories. The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.
