According to THR , Fox is betting that audiences will not get a load of Deadpool when the movie opens this weekend but will immediately want more, which is why the studio is already working on a sequel. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool, are writing the script for a follow-up, which has already been greenlighted. The fact that a sequel is in the works should not be a surprise at this point. Deadpool is tracking to open to at least $65 million over the upcoming four-day holiday weekend, with some estimates pointing north of $70 million. Tim Miller directed Deadpool and although is he has not signed on to helm the sequel, Fox is intent on keeping the creative team together. Reese, Wernick and Miller, as well as star Ryan Reynolds, have fought an uphill battle within the studio system to get the movie made, forging themselves into a compact unit. Over the past several years, a number of names have been associated with the idea of bringing Star Trek back to television. One of the most bandied about has been Bryan Fuller . Today CBS announced that Fuller will indeed be serving as co-creator and showrunner of the new series set to premiere this January. For executive producer Alex Kurtzman (who produced and co-wrote the first two films in the J.J. Abrams big screen reboot of the franchise) this is exciting news. "Bringing Star Trek back to television means returning it to its roots, and for years those roots flourished under Bryan's devoted care," he says of Fuller, who has previously worked on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. "His encyclopedic knowledge of Trek canon is surpassed only by his love for Gene Roddenberry's optimistic future; a vision that continues to guide us as we explore strange new worlds." After seven installments, the trap-happy Saw franchise finally drew to a close in 2010 with its 3D Final Chapter . Since then there have been regular whispering of what studio Lionsgate might be planning to do with the property: the assumption being that, while it had run its initial course, there was still some sort of life in the series. Pitches have come and gone, but six years on, Saw 8 (or VIII, if you prefer) is now officially in development. It has a title - Saw: Legacy - and a pair of screenwriters in the Piranha films' Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. Saw , of course, began in 2004 with James Wan's now classic, self-contained, low-budget ordeal. Not an obvious candidate to spawn six sequels, it nevertheless managed just that, with writer Leigh Whannell continuing through the next two, and Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan picking up the story for the rest. THR is reporting Arielle Kebbel , known for her recurring roles on UnREAL and Ballers , has joined the Fifty Shades of Grey threequel Fifty Shades Freed . Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan , who starred in 2015's Fifty Shades of Grey, will reprise their roles in Universal's sequel, playing Anastasia and billionaire Christian Grey, respectively. In the sequel, Ana starts a new job, and at the same time she's faced with dealing with many of Christian's former flames. James Foley is directing Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed based on a script by Niall Leonard, author EL James’ husband. Universal has slated Darker, which sees producers Michael De Luca, Dana Brunetti and James returning, for release on Feb. 10, 2017. Marcus Viscidi also produces. Jonathan Levine will direct the movie, which Paul Feig is producing with Chernin Entertainment. Oscar winner Goldie Hawn is in talks to play Amy Schumer ‘s mother in an upcoming comedy from director Jonathan Levine, an individual familiar with the 20th Century Fox project has told TheWrap . The project would mark Hawn’s return to the big screen after more than a decade, her last feature role having been in the 2002 comedy “The Banger Sisters.” Paul Feig is producing under his Feigco banner along with Chernin Entertainment. Katie Dippold wrote the script and will serve as an executive producer. 20th Century Fox executive Daria Cercek is overseeing the project. The film, which is inspired by Dippold’s relationship with her mother, follows a family vacation gone wrong. Hawn won an Oscar for her supporting performance in 1969’s “Cactus Flower” and was nominated again for “Private Benjamin” in 1980. She’s represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
