BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Movie Review: 'Macbeth'

Macbeth is a twisted, brooding mess. Review by Matt Cummings Shakespeare reboots - that's a hard one to swallow these days - are usually met with a whipsaw of critical opinion. You either love Shakespeare remakes or you hate them. The problem has always been a simple one: bringing the material into current times without defeating the characters or brilliance of Shakespeare's works. Unfortunately, Michael Fassbender's Macbeth is hard to hear, nearly impossible at points to figure out, and places too much emphasis on style over substance. Although the warrior Macbeth (Michael Fassbender) savagely defeats an army for King Duncan (David Thewlis), Macbeth is a shattered man, having recently buried his young son high in what appears to be the Scottish mountains. When Duncan 'rewards' his efforts by granting his son the keys to the castle, Macbeth and his Lady (Marion Cottliard) plan for Duncan's death and their ascension. As the cycle of terror and

Movie Review: 'In the Heart of the Sea'

In the Heart of the Sea should have stayed in port. Review by Matt Cummings In a time when superhero movies and the revisiting of our childhood brains the box office into submission, In the Heart of the Sea was supposed to arrive as a powerful and refreshing period alternative. But much like the rest of 2015's Oscar driftwood, this tale of an intelligent whale beating inferior men feels uninspiring in many parts and leaves the audience knowing exactly why blockbusters are currently ruling the day. Told from two different perspectives, the story behind Moby Dick is uncovered as an aging survivor (Brendan Gleeson) reveals his harrowing tale to the writer Herman Melville (Ben Wishaw). There, the veteran seaman Owen Chase (Chris Hemsworth) has braved 19th Century whaling as a quick way to earn a captainship while providing for his growing family. Situated in Nantucket - the home of the industry during that time - the need for whale oil couldn't be higher. Unfort

Rebecca Ferguson Returning For Another Mission

With Christopher McQuarrie once more writing and directing a Mission: Impossible outing to follow his barnstorming Rogue Nation , it appears that at least one of the cast will be back to join Tom Cruise , and it’s one that a lot of people will be happy to see return: Rebecca Ferguson . The news is not quite official or confirmed by Paramount or McQuarrie as we write this, but Showbiz 411 is reporting that Ferguson is locked in for another round playing the mysterious and kick-ass Ilsa Faust. This will mark the first time a Mission leading lady has returned properly, not counting Michelle Monaghan’s tiny cameo at the end of Ghost Protocol. We’d expect to see the likes of at least Simon Pegg’s Benji Dunn and Ving Rhames’ Luther Stickell back, plus possibly Jeremy Renner’s Brandt (though he didn’t exactly get a lot to do last time) and maybe even Alec Baldwin, given the events of Rogue Nation. What will Isla be up to, given that she’s not officially a member of the M:I team and was

#Trainspotting2 Is Getting Closer To Happening

According to THR Danny Boyle  will be directing the sequel to the film that cemented his career back in 1996. Tri-Star has chosen life, chosen a job … and has chosen Trainspotting 2 . Moving fast to a preemptive deal, the Sony label has landed the package, worldwide rights included, to the sequel of the seminal 1996 film with Danny Boyle back in the director’s chair. Also returning to the film project are the original principal cast, including Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremner and Robert Carlyle . John Hodge, who wrote the script for the original adaptation, is also back as writer. Sony Pictures co-chair Tom Rothman leaned on his longstanding relationship with Boyle to make the deal happen. Rothman has been a supporter of the filmmaker since 1997’s A Life Less Ordinary, when the former was an executive at Fox. More importantly, Rothman was the CEO of Fox Searchlight, running the division he founded when it released Boyle’s movies, ranging from 28 Days Later (200
